Guild Wars 2

Play on main account with Steam, no reinstall needed.
By Zethell
This guide will show you how to do two things.
Linking the original install folder to the Steam so you can avoid re-installing or moving the install folder.
Enabling the proper launcher when launching from Steam so you can access your main account.

Unfortunately, due to malicious reporting from a group of angry individuals, the launcher has been removed.
If you're still interested in it, it's available under my projects on my profile. But it can not be included or linked to in the Guide.

Change to the Original Launcher.
Now that you've linked or installed Guild Wars 2 on Steam, go ahead and add the command line parameter to tell the game to use the original launcher instead.

Simply right click on Guild Wars 2 in your Steam Library, select properties and add -provider Portal in Launch Options.

You can now start the game with Steam and login as you normally would in Guild Wars 2.
Link the game folder to Steam. (Optional)
Finding the path to where you install games on Steam.
This path should look like ..\steamapps\common with the .. being the previous folders and harddrive. Example: D:\Games\steamapps\common etc.

You can find this path by starting the download for Guild Wars 2 on Steam, then pausing the download, right click on Guild Wars 2 in your Steam Library, go to Manage and select Browse local files.

Finding where you have your Guild Wars 2 installed.
For me, this is on my C drive, so C:\Games\Guild Wars 2

To find the guild wars 2 path, simply right click on your normal Guild Wars 2 icon, go into properties and look for the "target" path.

Open Command Prompt in Windows, in Administrator mode.
You can do this by searching for cmd on the start bar, right clicking on Command Prompt and selecting run as administrator.

mklink Command.
This command does NOT work if the Guild Wars 2 folder already exists within the Steam folder, if it does, it needs to be renamed or deleted.

You have to link the Guild Wars 2 folder, to the install path where Steam would have installed Guild Wars 2.

Simply type the following command:
mklink /J "Steam Path" "Guild Wars 2 Path"
Where Steam Path is your steam installation folder and Guild Wars 2 Path is your Guild Wars 2 folder.

Example in my own case: mklink /J "F:\Steam\steamapps\common\Guild Wars 2" "C:\Games\Guild Wars 2"

Finishing up.
This will create a folder "shortcut" in the Steam folder, linking it to your Guild Wars 2 folder, allowing Steam to think the game has already been installed.

Now install the game on Steam in the Steam folder that you linked, if done correctly it will instantly finish and you can now proceed to the next step.

Credits for showing people (and myself) how to use mklink.
Thanks to Bad Videos with Never (Dungeon47) for showing how it's done, check out his YouTube and give him a like.

Nevermind, your guide sucks. There's no need to do all these extra steps. The simple command on steam will make it so that you're not forced to log in with your Steam account, but rather revert to login in with an email and password. The only thing to note is that if your GW2 account was originally created through arena net and you bought stuff through their site/client then all that stuff will be linked to your original account, and whatever you buy through steam won't reflect and apply to your Arena Net account. Basically don't buy shit through steam, buy it through Arena's official site.

Flag: -provider:Portal
For Guild Wars 2 players with an existing non-Steam account, add this flag to force the Guild Wars 2 launcher to revert to the username/password login. Do note that it will NOT link your regular Guild Wars 2 account with your Steam. Never BUY anything from Steam as those will NOT be credited to your regular Guild Wars 2. You've been well-informed.

does this forces the user to have two copies of the game? the folder weights around 75GB so would i have two folders of 75GB or can I delete one?

What do you mean by "what causes the game to mess up"?
If your install is messed up you can launch the game with -repair command line argument.
