How to disable the Spin Dash in Sonic 1
By &Olga
Too many reviews complain about the Classic Mode for Sonic 1 keeping the spin-dash from its more recent iterations. However, there's been an option to turn the thing off all along that everyone somehow missed. So here I am, pointing out a simple menu option...

Start Sonic 1
Navigate to the Sonic 1 section of the main menu, select Classic Mode, and start the game.
Get to the settings menu and turn off the spin dash
The game has an extra menu that allows for various gameplay tweaks, however it's not obvious how to access it to those who haven't played the original game. But those who have should remember a certain magical button combo...

First, wait until the words "PRESS BUTTON" appear on the title screen.

After they appear, type "WSADK" on your keyboard. If you changed your button config, press the buttons you have mapped for Up, Down, Left, Right, Jump -- in that order. The menu will now appear.

Navigate to the "SPINDASH" option and use your left/right keys to change its value to "OFF". You will notice that the menu also has options for re-enabling various other Sonic 1 oddities (which nobody seems to actually complain about, however) such as the spike bug or the speed cap, which you can toggle ON for an even more "original" experience.

Now, navigate back up to "Green Hill 1", press Jump, and start the game in its "true" classic form.
Stop complaining about things that aren't true. Edit your reviews.
