Titanfall 2 multiplayer on PC has been broke for a long time now and Respawn refuses to fix the problem so pilots have migrated over to using Northstar the community ran multiplayer service. Now I know that there are a lot of guides on how to install Northstar or how to play the multiplayer but for a regular user installing Northstar can be confusing. So today I tell you about Northstar and Viper and how to install them.

As a lot of you may know the Titanfall 2 multiplayer scene on PC is broken at least in the base game. It is filled with DDOS attacks, people doxing you, game crashers, and at one point there was an arbitrary code execution attack (which got patched out) these issues make playing the base multiplayer not only unsafe to play but at some point unplayable as a whole. Now there is some work around available to play the base multiplayer but that still does not fix the security issues that the base games multiplayer has. This is where Northstar[northstar.tf] comes in. Northstar is a mod crated by the community to not make the multiplayer of Titanfall 2 playable again but also patch out the security issues that are in the base came. They also made this cool trailer!

For the sake of time and space on this guide I am not going into the extremely fine technical details of how Northstar works, but I will give a basic overview of it so people have at least some idea whats going on under the hood.

For starters lets talk about how Northstar gets loaded into Titanfall 2. Like every big game released now a days Titanfall 2 ships with a load of DLL files which it needs to assist in loading the game. What these DLL files do is beyond me but the smart people over at Northstar figured out that Titanfall 2 doesnt really check to make sure these DLL are unmodified and just does whatever these DLL files tell the game to do. So these same smart people decompiled the DLL's and hacked the living ♥♥♥♥ out of them to make them do whatever they wanted them to, and you may be wondering what they had these DLL files do. Well dear reader they did the only logical thing and made them load EVEN MORE DLL files, but not just any DLL files they had them load DLL files that they made. These new DLL files basically stop the game from reaching out to the respawn servers for multiplayer stuff and instead contact the Northstar master servers for this info.

Now this is where some peoples day will be ruined but lets talk a bit about the master servers. The northstar master server acts as the authentication server for the multiplayer which means that you need to have a legit copy of the game in order to play multiplayer (sorry pirates). The master servers also do all the fun behind the scenes stuff but mainly they are there to make sure you have a legit copy of the game.

Ok now to cover safety. With anything you download online safety is important to keep in mind, but ease your mind because this mod has been used hundreds of people and its open source[github.com] so if you are so inclined you can go over all the repos there and determin the safety yourself.

For starter viper is our good old ace pilot flying high in the sky!
But in reality Viper is a launcher for Titanfall 2 that allows has lots of features like switching between Northstar and regular Titanfall 2, a mod manager, and a Northstar auto installer and updated. This is once again an open source software and can be found here[github.com]

Ok welcome to the 90% of you who skipped to this part of the guide I know you did it and you can lie to me. For those people who skipped I am Whaless how are you doing? Im glad your having a great day. Oh hows my day its ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cause you skipped the guide. JK

Anyways lets start installing Viper.

1) Download Viper

To start the Viper install we must first go to the github repo here[github.com]

Once there you should see this









From here you want to scroll down a bit and you will find a download button










Now click that button and you should be redirected to a new page. Depending on your browser you may be asked where to download it so just pick somewhere you will remember. Once the download is finished 99% of browsers are going to yell at you and tell you that this is a bad thing you shouldnt install from here you should tell your browsers to ♥♥♥♥ off and to keep the download. This happens because microsoft is a greedy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that wants obscenely large amounts of money for .exe files to be digitally signed as legit and no one pays that ♥♥♥♥.

2) Installing Viper

Now that the .exe is downloaded lets run it.















SIKE YOU THOUGHT says windows. You should see this and thats ok. What you want to do is click more info and then a run button should appear and you can click that.

Viper will now do its thing and install dont worry you dont need to do anything here just let it do its thing.

3) Installing Northstar

The setup window should close now and you should see a new windows with a big install button. Click that thing. Viper should take care of everything so you wont have to do anything but in the event it does ask you for more just reach out to me and I will try and help.

4) Launching Northstar

Press big launch button. Be warned that there is a chance you get an engine error. That is OK as long as it says something about an origins account. If it does just sign into origins and restart the game.

5) Joining the online multiplayer

This is the last step. Under the multiplayer tab in the main menu you should see some that says "Launch Northstar" Click that









6) Joining a server

Once you are loaded into the multiplayer menu just click server browser and you should see a list of ever server out there.


Keep in mind that all of these servers are hosted by the community meaning THESE ARE NOT OFFICIAL SERVERS BECAUSE NORTHSTAR DOES NOT INTERACT WITH THE TITANFALL 2 OFFICIAL SERVERS.

Well Pilot look at you, once again back on the frontier and kicking some IMC ass. Almost enough to make a grown man cry. keyword ALMOST. It is important to note that at the time of writing custom maps are still being worked on because respawn sucks are the community needs to reverse engineer the map format. Also Frontier defense is in beta testing meaning that you can play it but the servers might crash.

Northstar is constantly being updated and new releases are pushed out all the time, but because you use viper the updates will auto install when they come by.
