Requirements
  • No stocks lost, otherwise you'll have to START OVER, but this can be an exception if you have the one hit ko badge, which is recommended with a shield charm and the potions for extended life. You can buy it in Floating Islands, which is located in Parusa. Otherwise, you'll just have to avoid losing a single stock until then.
  • Clear the stage with 2 brave stones with a minimum of 20% bonus or higher

  • Time does not matter, you could be playing a new stage for the first time and still s rank as you long you meet the requirements above.

I repeat, time DOES NOT matter, you could go above the par time and still s rank the stage if you're willing to speedrun and S rank stages separately.
Optional : Rainbow S rank
For a rainbow S rank, you have to clear the stage without losing a stock and 2 brave stone with one being 25% and having the required one hit ko stone. You can rely on shields that are found throughout the stage and still be granted a rainbow S rank. Use shield potions to increase its effectiveness.

Here's a video for clarification. Skip to 3:33 and/or 4:44 if you want to get to the point.

Remember to equip a brave stone with 25% with the one hit ko badge or you won't get the rainbow s rank.
That's pretty much it really
I updated the guide after so long, which was quite inexcusable of me. Got any questions, anything I wrote was misinformed or not clear? Please, do let me know and if you have any videos, screenshots I can use, send em here or via my dms. (Yes, you'll be credited for the source)

I always found it a bit weird that in a game about going super fast time isn't necessary in final ranking. But I think you get a better rank if you can beat the par times anyway and if you want 100% you need to speedrun every level.

Also, since the author didn't test it, I did. Yes, you can get an S Rank with two 20% items. But the only two items with a bonus of 20% are "No Guarding" & "Life Oscillation" and there is no reason to subject yourself to that kind of pain for a normal S Rank.

(So I guess that would mean you technically only need a bonus of 40% minimum from your items to get a normal S Rank. Not 45% like I first wrote.)

Shadowfury is right: Rainbow-S is a higher ranking than S, not just an S Rank without taking damage. The thing is, you can only get a bonus high enough to reach Rainbow-S by equipping the One-Hit K.O. badge + any badge with a bonus of 25% so you automatically can't take petal damage anyway.
If the criteria for a Rainbow-S Rank was getting an S Rank and not taking petal damage, then equipping the One-Hit K.O. badge + a shield charm would be enough, since you only need a 45% bonus from your items to get an S-Rank. But it's not enough, you'll only get a normal S Rank that way.

Additional Note: One-Hit K.O. + a 20% item isn't enough, your 2nd item has to be a 25% item. (This is probably to avoid cheesing Rainbow-S ranks with Life Oscillation)

Rainbow S doesn't seem to have anything to do with clearing without taking damage. More like clearing with 50% + 125% bonus.

Agree with Prota. One hit KO and shield charm is very powerful when you combine it with a full slot of shield stock potions, you can also stack it with shields in level to essentially have health. Has made S ranking a breeze for most stages

Just a heads-up, you can lose a stock and still get S rank if you use a combination of One Hit KO and a shield charm. The bonus is high enough to make up for the stock loss, and you also get a new stack of shields if you do end up reviving.
