As of Dec 15, 2023 this patch is no longer necessary, since the game now offers an in-game setting to change the internal resolution scale.

What is this?

Pixel Crunch, Crawl and Moiré pattern distracting you too much from the game? Here's a solution for your problems[github.com]. By following this guide, you'll be able to raise the game's pixel art buffer resolution by using fp2res, in turn making the game's presentation less jittery.

Downloading the tool.

First, head over to the releases [github.com] section of the FP2Res github page, where you'll be able to download the tool.

Installing the tool.

Now find your Freedom Planet 2's install folder and copy over the tool:

Using the tool.

Now, run the application, type in your desired internal resolution scale and hit enter. The base resolution is 640x360, so type 2 for 720p, 3 for 1080p, 6 for 2160p, etc. Refer to the resolution table[github.com] if in doubt.

Now run the game and enjoy!

Undoing the changes.

This tool alters the FP2_Data/sharedassets0.assets file, if setting the scale to 1 fail to revert all changes, use Steam's File Validation to ensure the game is fully back to stock.

Major improvement, if you have screen zoom on at any level the character sprites will no longer become chunky and low res, they stay high quality!

It does REALLY improve scaling effects' visual quality, it's specially obvious in the main menu, but you can see the improvement in every level. Thanks a lot for the mod.

It does have one issue, however, but I don't know if you can fix that: if you take a Photo (you know, that feature where you can pose your character to take silly photos, etc) while you have the mod active, the resulting image is zoomed. You can see the resulting Photo files in Freedom Planet 2\FP2_Data\album, and how they get zoomed.

THANK YOU!!! I couldn't stand the awful zoom, the game looks SO much prettier with this! Wonder why it isn't a vanilla feature.

I can't say the pixel crunch bothered me all that much, but god the difference with this mod is night and day. Definitely wish the game came with this option built in now. Thanks for making this for the community!
