Developer's FAQ for "A Hero's Rest"

Hello everyone, we put together this guide to help answer the most frequently asked questions about the game, we will keep updating it as necessary, we hope this helps.
FAQ
Why can't i build the Questboard?
  • To Unlock the Questboard you need to have at least one Workstation other than the Innkeeper, and make sure you fulfill all the requirements shown in the left of the screen. After receiving the corresponding milestone you will have access to the Questboard. This is explained during the Tutorial.

Can i build more than one Workstation per lot?
  • No.

Do i need to make Male & Female Armours?
  • No,during crafting the Male & Female buttons are only to preview the Armour.

Where's my Inventory?
  • You can access your Inventory by pressing [4] by default or clicking the Bag button below the Build button, this is explained during the Tutorial.

How can i place chairs without a table
  • Press [F] to allow free placement, this is not exclusive to chairs and can be done with most Items in the game.

I can't get enough resources
  • Make sure you gather the wild resources that are scattered around the map, You can find Wood / Bronze / Food / Fish
  • You can also produce Herbs / Cloth / Leather from production farms in the upgrades menu for the Apothecary, Tailor and Tanner Workstations

Can't find the Trader & Weapon Master?
  • The Trader & Weapon Master always set up camp in the same location, this is often close to the entrance to the map (close to the cave where heroes come in) and it's marked by a stone pillar.

How can i see which Quests are taken - if my Hero has a Quest
  • Quests are taken when they disappear from the Inventory [4] by default.
  • You can keep track of these Quests by pressing [5] by default or opening your Hero Manager on the right top of your screen to follow their current progress on their Quest.

How can i make money
  • You make money from selling high quality Items that you craft in your shops.
  • Adding extras to your food & potions can increase their quality, but be mindful that if you craft normal or bad items doing this, you wont benefit of the profit.
  • In the Upgrades tab in the Build menu, you can find shop stands (like the Beehive) that can sell products to the visitors, this will often return a great profit per resource spent.

How can i make sure that Heroes return from their Quest
  • Heroes may sometimes fail their Quest, but with high morale they will push through and not die in the process. Instead they will return demoralized but that can be helped.
  • Providing Heroes with high quality gear will improve their odds at successfully completing a Quest, it is possible to reach beyond 100% success chance allowing you to assign Heroes to go on Challenging Quests if desired
  • Increase the morale of your Heroes using the morale boost potion at the Apothecary when in dire need

I keep getting a notification saying there were no CR-6 quests available for my heroes, but i can only do CR 7-10+ quest and above.

Sometimes a low-level Hero's CR will drop below 7 because their HP and MP are low and they do not have good equipment yet. If this happens you have a few options:
  • Assign them a high quality food to increase how much they recover and perhaps have beds available to push them to CR 7 or more.
  • Craft an item they would upgrade to while shopping. Or upgrade items in your inventory with regrade stones (the gems in your inventory) for the same idea.
  • You can assign them to quests of 7-10 (scavenging) from your inventory menu. This will put them at (challenging quest) higher failing that quest but if they succeed you will get more rewards and the hero will get more XP and morale from completing it. Maybe enough to level up and be in better shape for his next adventure.
  • Additionally you can use the apothecary to craft CR potions to boost his CR for his next
    quest.
  • Last but not least you can assign the Hero to perform a 7-10 quest directly from your inventory. Which in turn will make that quest into a challenging quest that can be more dangerous for the Hero, but also more rewarding if completed successfully.

There are plenty of tools at your disposal to help CR6 Heroes reach the minimum range required by the quests offered by the Innkeeper. Taking advantage of these tools will help you in the long term when dealing with more difficult quests that may borderline your best equipped Heroes.

All my Heroes are leaving due to low morale
  • If Heroes can't find food or CR appropriate Quests, they will drastically lose morale.
  • Heroes that fail a Quest will drastically lose morale and it may even cause them to die in battle.
  • Providing Heroes with high quality Gear will improve their morale, while selling them broken / bad equipment & food will decrease it.
  • Increase the morale of your Heroes using the morale boost potion at the Apothecary when in dire need

How do i get out of Menus / Zooming into a Hero
  • Press ESC.

How do i unlock, locked items in the Build menu
  • Grayed out items in the Build menu will unlock once you build the corresponding Workstations shown in the tool-tip.

Dealing with Bosses - (Spoilers)

How to Prepare for a Boss Threat
  • The Boss Threat will appear once you reach the 4th location in a Slay Quest. If you are not ready to fight the boss, you can delay your progress by doing gather quests (which don't have bosses). This will allow you to decide on your own when the fight actually happens.
  • Try to get your hands on T2 Materials, The trader can sell you some or you can do the
[Farming & Mining] at the [Mountains] or the [Animal Beasts] at the [Farms] quests from CR16+.

How to Beat it
  • You can craft excellent food for your best heroes in the innkeeper and assign the food through your inventory menu to the heroes that you are planning to send on the quest.
Usually T2 Excellent Foods are great, but even T1 can go a long way to get them in good shape.
  • Craft CR Potions at the apothecary and once again assign those to make sure to boost your best heroes.
  • Send heroes with CR16+ To Gather T2 Materials, The first place you can do this is [Farming & Mining] at the [Mountains] or the [Animal Beasts] at the [Farms]. Use those T2 Materials to increase the CR of your Heroes Further.
  • You have plenty of time to deal with the Boss Quests, some of your Heroes will have enough time to go at least twice to their mission. but if you get unlucky don't worry too much.

  • Once Defeated the Boss will not re-appear and you will gain access to the 4th location permanently. You will also be able to send Heroes to the Boss Quest in that location at will, which increases your chances to receive multiple resources from completing it.

Failing a Boss Threat:
  • Failing a Boss Threat will take a big impact on your gold and resources, this can be lowered by having constitution based Heroes.
  • When losing a Boss threat the boss will take back your access to the 4th location corresponding to him, You can attempt fighting him again by sending heroes to attack his minions. But make sure you are better prepared the next time around.

Oh i answered you in the Discord too, but i don't currently believe it will be possible to add workshop to the game due to the current infrastructure, but we never know what the future holds.

And do you plan to add a workshop in steam for players to add new weapon parts mods?
Lokerian  [author] 25 Oct, 2022 @ 12:47am
When crafting weapons you can click the big button within the 2 res arrows to choose the part you are working on and the arrows to chane the part you want the item to have. This is displayed in the 10 tips video above.

As you reach higher tier levels in your crafters new parts will unlock to allow for further customisation
