Until a high skill rate is achieved, and the percentage chance of that lack of durability loss is discerned, you're better off paying the smith to fix your stuff.
Additionally, don't bother trying to kill the random bats. I finally hit one with a fireball and it stayed at the entrance it flew by me to as an immortal nuisance that damages me every time I have to use those stairs.
On a more important note, it looks like the only way to take the contents of a shop chest without paying for it seems to require the owner to be dead.
I haven't opened it yet, but the first locked door and key combo you can get is definitely above sixty.
Also, the primary number I was looking for, the number needed to unlock level 1 of the crypt is 50.
Haven't spent all the points.
Want to note that in a normal stealth playthrough I'd have stopped raising my lockpicking to focus on stealth and magic followed by item lore.
I also want to point out that stealth is all or nothing and subpar as most NPCs don't pay attention to you opening chests, and those that do tend to not catch you if you wait until they're turned away.
It doesn't help that if you manage to sneak into a shop you still have to pay for anything that you dfayr we we will be there.
Anyways, 40 will disarm and unlock the troll idol chest (150 to unlock, another 150 to disarm), as well as the door when Atok locked it.
Note, the trapped chest in the gemdealer's house can be opened with a 40 as well.
It was also enough to unlock the goblin King's closet with his magic leather armor.
Net XP 750.
That said, going to have to start over, I only had my quick save recent and while I was checking the chest in the Treasury, on reload the goblin lord guard was allowed to auto-detect me and make everyone hostile.
Mostly restarting because I want to see what 30 will let me unlock asap, (I was running around without even magic missile).
