B.A.R.D. - Imperial Army Overhaul

In 1 collection by Shas'la
B.A.R.D. - Bannerlord Armies ReDone - AIO
6 items
Description
A complete overhaul of the Empire's Army with the aim of giving them a unique identity and bringing them up to par with other empires. Extreme care and attention to detail was taken to make them look good, functional, and as historically accurate as the vanilla assets allow. There are also new units, new items and stat fixes/changes included.

TL;DR
  • Awesome reskins
  • New units
  • New items
  • Balanced Empire

Background

Bringing you my third mod after finishing the Sturgians and the Battanians. I figured I would give them the same treatment as I gave the Sturgians and the Battanians. The inspiration for the troops are armies of the 10th-12th century Byzantine Empire.

The mod completely reworks the entire Imperial troop tree, nobles included. In my opinion they look much better.

There are also a lot of balancing changes here to round of the mod.

The units look much better in my opinion, but please understand that this is just my personal taste, and will stay as such. Your constructive criticism is still welcome.

Keep in mind that this is a work in progress, and there will be a lot of updates and small tweaks as TaleWorlds updates the game and proper modding tools are developed and released. Having said that, I think it's already in a really good place, check out screenshots and see for yourself.

--------------------

Disclaimer

As a general philosophy, I'm trying to create a more "grounded" look for all troops I edit, so you won't see full plate and mail armored soldiers on Tier 3 and such. Even on some of the higher tiers you will not see that, as levied soldiers simply didn't have access to that quality of equipment in the time period Bannerlord is set in. In order to keep balance I'll increase/decrease stats and add modded items where needed so Battania can stay competitive with other empires.

Having said all that, I hope you will enjoy the mod.

Compatibility

Compatible and tested on v1.0.0 & e1.9.0.

Save Game compatible. (If you're adding this to an existing campaign though, it might take a while until the new troops appear for lords and as higher rep village recruits, but they will be available to the player instantly if you're upgrading from the Empire Recruit)

The mod is now also compatible with most other troop overhauls, as long as they don't modify Empire troops and uses the module system for easy install/uninstall.

FAQ

The mod is not working?
If you have the latest version of the game, subscribed to the mod, enabled it in the launcher and my mods are below the native modules and you don't crash, the mod is working.

My units don't have the [Bard] prefix as in the screenshots?
Yes, that is how it's intended. I use that prefix for my own testing in my own game, but when I upload to the Steam Workshop I remove it. In your game, the units WILL NOT have the [Bard] prefix

Help, I crashed?
If you think you crashed because of my mod, send me the crash report so I can take a look at it. Otherwise I have no way of knowing why you crashed.

Is it compatible with X, Y or Z
I created this with maximum compatibility in mind, but I can't make it compatible and test it with every mod out there. Please try it out before asking.

Is it compatible with RBM?
Yes, with caveats. It is compatible with their AI and Arena modules. It is NOT compatible with their Troop Overhaul (for obvious reasons) and only semi-compatible with the Combat Module. I would recommend sticking with only AI and Arena. Also, see above.

Balance seems off?
While I do my best to test units one on one to make sure nothing roflstomps other units, I'm just one man, and can't test every unit against every other unit in thousands of scenarios, so I might have missed something. If you think a unit is OP, or a faction's combined arms power is way too strong let me know. Please send me a detailed list of army compositions so I can test that scenario and see what I can do about it.

X unit should use this or that, could you change it?
Please provide your reasoning in the comments, with historical sources if possible, and I'll consider the change if it makes sense.

This mod sucks, I hate it?
That's ok, I can't make it appeal to everyone. No hard feelings.

Uninstallation

Just click unsubscribe (but see known issues below) or manually delete the "EmpireArmyRedone folder".

Known Issues

If you uninstall the mod while you have my modded troops in your save (which you will if you use the mod) the game will crash. You'll most likely have to start another save. Sorry about this, but the way troop modding works now, there is no way for me to prevent this. As soon as there is a solution, I'll do my best implement it.

I'm really interested in using these mods, but now that I've played with RBM, I can't play without it.

A lot of the changes made with your design philosophy would work well with RBM - limiting heavy armour, more grounded weapon layouts and armour diversity.

Is there any chance of a compatch between this and RBM? I'd really love using both on a playthrough.

Also great work on the units, love the mods just my OCD killing me with the prisoner stuff.

Hi, could you make these mods fix the prisoners aswell? If I try to recruit lets say a looter and I right click it still shows the old empire troop tree ending in the legionary and the menavliaton.

@Shas'la I mean could it be possible that certain assets of Open Source Armory be applied to this mod, making units wear OSA assets?
Shas'la  [author] 22 Nov, 2024 @ 12:35pm
@Walpole it could be made of course, but it's out of scope for this mod.

can this mod be made compatible with Open Source Armory?

Hey Friend,

If I wanted to make a faction unit overhaul mod as you have, where could I start? Is there a tutorial or suggestion you have?

Thank you much,
