Welcome!
Want to make addons for Chasm The Rift?

Well you've come to the right place! as this guide will help you learn Chasm's level editor. Keep in mind that this guide will be updated as more things get documented.
Learning The Basics

This will be the first-thing you need to watch when learning how to use the level-editor. This will cover the basics like how to start your first map, how to make a hallway and also how to make a door that opens and closes via PROCESS.XX (XX meaning the level number).
Custom Textures
This video explains you how to make custom textures using Imagine to save as Autodesk .CEL files and on top of that, I will also show you how to change floor/ceiling textures through texture injection. (Results may vary!)

As of October 25, 2022, A new and easier method of changing floor/ceiling textures is out!

Link to files needed : Transformers Chasm[www.angelfire.com]

If you plan on making custom sky textures, it must be the size of 256x200 and must be placed in USERMAP/COMMON/ folder.
Custom Sky + .3O Texture Injection
This video covers how to make a sky textures and use it in Chasm, plus it covers how to inject custom textures to .3O files. Sky textures are in the /COMMON folder.

Pro Tips and What to Avoid
  • Make sure the walls are facing inside instead of outside.

  • If you wish to change the level number, you must rename LEVELXX folder + FLOORS.XX, MAP.XX, PROCESS.XX, RESOURCE.XX, AND SCRIPT.XX to the number you want. (in two digits)
  • Do not change the wall length to cover 3 grids (size 192), this will cause the game to crash due to an invalid floating point error. Split it with left-click *MS-DOS version is only affected*

  • If making angled walls, keep/split it into the size of 1 grid (size 64) to prevent the floating point error *MS-DOS version is only affected*

  • You can snap to the closest grid point but holding either mouse button and pressing the other mouse button. Credits to RailedRobin for pointing that out.

  • If you don't want to place objects to the center of the current square, You can add objects at mouse position by right-clicking. Credits to RailedRobin for pointing that out.

  • Keep note that the map you are making is mirrored from how it will actually look once you play your map.

  • Save often! because this editor tends to crash often.
End of Guide
That's it for this guide! However expect more updates to this guide as more tutorial videos go public.

Happy Mapping!

I heard there were other expansions that haven’t been released. Not even standard online modes. But it’s a great game beat it and can’t say I beat every old school shooter I have played. It’s a very impressive game for it’s time, and at the price they have it for I hope they do more with it.

@Unseen My apologies for the late response. There aren't many addons because it's like you said, it is complicated to work with. I can think of three small addons but that's it. There is Grim Borough, Cursed Land and my single-level demo of The City. You can get those on ModDb, but as for my addon, it is unknown on when I'm going to continue working on it. (development is paused for the time-being)

There was supposed to be a basic geometry editor for structuring .3O models for levels but I haven't heard any news of it. (Last time I heard progress was in October 2022)

Honestly wished more updates, multiplayer and a new level editor would come out for this remaster. (It's been months since a new update had released)

Looks a bit complicated but where can I dl some good user made maps? Really like the games combat and just want some intense shootouts.

oh that's great I'm trying to make a map to see if it gives me an achievement

@postmortem All good, hope to see more Chasm maps in the future. :)

I don't think I'm sorry, that's why I didn't realize they had to be inside
Akage Megane  [author] 11 Dec, 2022 @ 1:54pm
@postmortem What kind of problems do you have with the walls? Did you make sure to have the nibble in the center of each wall pointing inward instead of outward?
postmortem 11 Dec, 2022 @ 1:42pm
your video tutorials are not helping me because I have problems with the walls

@MangleMan25 Apologies for the late response but addons should work for the remaster but you'll have to restructure the data like models, textures etc the same way the remaster's base game and addon data. (The folder structure is different compared to the DOS release)
MangleMan 5 Dec, 2022 @ 3:58pm
Ok, so would levels I or anyone else potentially create be only playable in DOSbox or are addons compatible with the remastered version too? Maybe a dumb question but it's been a second since I booted the game up
