Ion Cannons just work. Prisms only redirect them, or merge the beams, but a broadside of Ion Cannons is perfectly viable. Also, unlike Railguns, Ion beams going into prisms can target just about anything, and can be protected by armor and structure/slopes, instead of having to rely on shields to do the defense.
Curiosity: Are lone Ion Cannons working by themselves and not bothering to work together with Prisms viable, or are they pointless compared to just stickin with Lasers...?
