Black Mesa VGUI Debug Menu & Tools

Description
This script adds a fully functional Debug Menu to Black Mesa. Made by Hds46 and modified for Black Mesa by me.

Make sure to check out hds's original spawn menu mod too! https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2880327933
https://www.moddb.com/mods/universal-vgui-spawn-menu

Features:

  • Props
  • NPCs - Featuring most NPCs in the game.
  • Items - All weapons, even the ones you can't obtain normally.
  • Entities
  • Tools - Various scripted tools such as: camera, scale, color, etc.
  • Maps - Featuring all vanilla game maps, On a Rail Uncut, and the Hazard Course maps.
  • Misc - This section allows you to change game rules (Time manipulation, getting/removing all your weapons, toggling god mode, etc).

How to install:

1. Subscribe to this mod.

2. Go to: "(steam directory)\steamapps\workshop\content\362890\2883217321"

3. Move the "Debug Menu - Black Mesa" folder to your Black Mesa custom folder: "(steam directory)\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\bms\custom"

3.1. (Optional) Move the "Debug Menu - Blue Shift" folder to "(steam directory)\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\bshift\custom". You don't need to do this if you don't have Blue Shift installed.

4. If you moved the folders while still ingame, then restart the game.

5. Add "exec spawnmenu_startup" to your autoexec.cfg OR add "+exec spawnmenu_startup" to the game's launch options on steam.

6. Load the game and type "bind Q +open_spawnmenu" in the console. Hold/Release "Q" to open/close the spawn menu. You can replace "Q" in the command with whatever other key you like. To open the menu in multiplayer the server must have sv_cheats 1.

Notes:

  • To customize this menu, go to this mod's scripts folder, and open debugoptions.txt. Here, you can add your own entries as well as resizing the menu.
This is the only way to resize it unfortunately. That's a problem with how Valve created it and there's nothing we can do about it.
  • It also doesn't have a .res file associated with it, so customization is extremely limited.

There is in fact a .res file associated with the debug menu at resource/debugoptionspanel.res, however it's true that most of it is hard-coded. It's possible to add back the OK and Cancel button labels at least!

Then create it
captainXcodfish 19 Aug, 2024 @ 12:13pm
there is no custom folder though. which is odd.

user_custom does NOT work. I have no idea what that folder even does in the first place lol. Just move it to "custom" instead

did all the stuff and it doesn't work.
i moved the Debug Menu - Black Mesa folder to the custom folder. (the custom folder being named user_custom instead. idk if that means anything.)
i added +exec spawnmenu_startup to the games startup options.
i typed in the console bind Q +open_spawnmenu
Unknown command: +open_spawnmenu

If you're launching from steam just add "+exec spawnmenu_startup" right next to the blue shift launch option

"-game bshift +exec spawnmenu_startup"

how do i add the debug launch option if i already have a black mesa blue shift launch option?
