Ultimate Kinsect Guide - Numbers and everything!
By mhm_cake
In this guide, I will go over everything there is to know about Kinsects, from the most basic knowledge such as Extract effects, to the most advanced such as how your Kinsect's Element stat dictates its powder. This guide will also go over Kinsect stats and the numbers behind them.

The very basics of the Kinsect.

The Kinsect is an insect friend that serves to aid an Insect Glaive player in battle. From damaging the monster, to buffing and healing the player, and even triggering environmental effects, the Kinsect is a versatile ally who is not to be underestimated.

Basic Kinsect Function

When you begin aiming with you weapon drawn, instead of aiming your slinger you will aim your Kinsect. When you left click, you will send your Kinsect out to attack. This can not only damage any monster the Kinsect hits, but will also trigger any environmental effects that can normally be triggered with your weapon. ie. Vigorwasps, Flashflies, falling rocks etc. In order to recall your Kinsect, aim and use the right mouse button. Your Kinsect will not return unless called back, but it can't stay out forever! It has a limited stamina bar that depletes over time unless it's on your arm. There are 2 types of Kinsects, Severing and Blunt. Severing deals higher damage to parts and can sever tails while Blunt can stun. You can swap freely between any Kinsect of any type at your equipment box.

Kinsect Attacks

There are four different ways you can send your Kinsect to attack. The first was already described as aiming your Kinsect and using the left mouse button. The second is by aiming and using CTRL. This will fire a small projectile which will "mark" the spot you hit and send your Kinsect off to attack that spot. (More on marking later) The third way is simply by using CTRL while not aiming. This will do a short range Melee attack that deals Blunt damage and marks the spot you hit. The last method is by using CTRL while midair. This will cause the player you automatically release the kinsect out, then do a descending thrust followed by two roundslashes. The roundslashes will sweep in a very wide area even hitting behind the player and will mark the target where they hit. It is followed up by a high damage Kinsect attack from where the Kinsect was first released to where the target was marked. This special Kinsect attack hits multiple times, making it good at dealing Elemental damage.

When a monster is "marked" your Kinsect will automatically attack the marked spot every three seconds. When your Kinsect hits a marked monster, it will spawn a Kinsect Powder. (more on those later.)

Extracts - The Basics

When your Kinsect hits a monster, it will collect an extract depending where it hit the monster. When you recall your Kinsect, you will receive the effects of that extract. Your Kinsect can normally only hold one Extract type at a time. There are four Extract types, and their effects are as follows:

Red - Completely overhauls your moveset to a more damaging version. Lasts 90s.

White - Increases effects of Red and Orange Extracts. Boosts ground movement speed, aerial evade distance, and jump height. Lasts 120s.

Orange - Prevents flinching while attacking. Lasts 150s.

Green - Heals the player for a small amount. Scales with Kinsect Heal stat.

Every monster has Red, White, and Orange Extracts. Only some monsters have Green Extract.

The increased effects from White Extract for Red and Orange Extracts are as follows:

Red + White - Increase to player attack.

White + Orange - Increase to player defense.

Red + White + Orange (Triple) - Further increase to player attack.

Each Extract color has its own duration, depleting independently of one another. However, when you collect all three extracts at the same time, it will synchronize their durations, and reset them to 90 seconds.

Kinsect stats - The Basics

There are three stats to the Kinsect to consider when deciding which Kinsect is the best for you.

Power - Determines the physical damage the Kinsect will do. Kinsect physical damage is based entirely on this stat, and cannot be influenced by outside sources.

Speed - Determines how fast your Kinsect will move. (Note: The less Speed your Kinsect has, the more powerful the Descending Thrust move will be. As it pierces through the monster, it hits multiple times, only stopping once it hits the marked spot.)

Heal - Determines how fast the stamina of your Kinsect will regenerate. Increases how much health is restored from Green Extract.

Element - Determines how much elemental power your Kinsect has. (Note: This stat is not influenced by any other Kinsect stat, and is not innate on any Kinsect. In order to gain Element on your Kinsect, you will need to go to the Smithy and enter "Kinsect Elements" to change your Kinsect's Element. Adding Element to your Kinsect will Decrease the Power stat by 1.)

Kinsect Powder

Kinsect Powder is a small cloud of dust that spawns when your Kinsect attacks a marked monster. Kinsect Powder type is determined by the type of the Kinsect that spawns it. The powder types are as follows:

Heal - Explodes with no effect to monsters, but heals nearby player for a small amount. Does not scale with Heal stat.

Paralysis - Explodes dealing an extremely small amount of damage to nearby monsters, as well as paralysis buildup.

Poison - Explodes dealing a very small amount of damage to nearby monsters as well as poison buildup.

Blast - Explodes dealing a small amount of damage to nearby monsters as well as blast buildup.

The status buildup and healing from Kinsect powder is determined by how upgraded your Kinsect is.

Kinsect Buffing

You can buff your Kinsect by aiming and using both mouse buttons together while having slinger ammo. This will consume one of your slinger ammo and will empower your Kinsect with one of two buffs. Either buff will allow your Kinsect to hold two extracts at once. You cannot normally apply both buffs at once, as attempting to apply the opposite buff overwrite the old one.

Spirit Buff

Obtained from the environmental slinger ammo. Stone, Redpits, Scatternuts, Crystalburst, Brightmoss, and Watermoss.

- Increases individual and Triple Extract duration
- Doubles Kinsect max stamina
-Doubles Kinsect passive stamina Regeneration

Strength Buff

Obtained from monster slinger ammo. Dragon pods, Bomb pods, Thorn pods, and Piercing pods.

- Increases individual Extract duration
- Increases Kinsect raw damage
- Drastically increases Kinsect element damage
- Improves Kinsect Powder staus buildup and healing
- Increases Kinsect attack while while a monster is marked

Note: Extract duration increases only apply to Extracts obtained after buffing your Kinsect.

Flash pods, Screamer Pods, Dung pods, and the capture net will not work for buffing your Kinsect. If you have another Slinger ammo equipped at the same time as one of these and you attempt to buff your Kinsect, it will automatically unequip the non-natural pods and will buff your Kinsect with the other ammo as normal.

Kinsect Bonuses

Each Insect Glaive has a Kinsect bonus that will give your Kinsect a variety of effects to improve its performance. The bonuses and their effects are as follows:

Sever Boost - Increaes the raw damage of Sever type Kinsects

Blunt Boost - Increases the raw damage of Blunt type Kinsects

Element Boost - Increases the element damage of your Kinsect

Speed Boost - Increases the speed of your Kinsect

Healing Boost - Increases the healing effect of green Extract

Stamina Boost - Increases the Stamina gained when Kinsect is recalled. Double passive Kinsect Stamina regen. Halves Kinsect Stamina cost.

Spirit & Strength Boost - Gives your Kinsect both the Spirit and the Strength buffs when you feed it a Slinger ammo (Note: The buffs to individual Extract duration are the same as if you only had one boost.)

Skill Synergy

There are two armor skills that can effect the Extracts a Kinsect collects.

- Power Prolonger will increase the duration of the Extracts. Will NOT increase the duration of the Spirit or Strength Kinsect buffs.

- Flinch Free will effectively grant one level of Wind Res, Tremor Res, and Earplugs while you have your extracts for each level of Flinch Free you have.

ie. If you have one level of Flinch Free, you would reduce the effects of low roars with your Extracts. If you have three levels of Flinch Free, you would negate the effects of low roars with your Extracts. If you have three levels of Flinch Free and two levels of Earplugs, you would negate the effects of high roars with your Extracts.

The Numbers

These are the exact stats of the Kinsect and all its varying properties. These may be confusing for novice players, so an understanding of how Monster Hunter works may be required to understand this section.

Extracts - The Numbers

Red + White - Increases Player Attack stat by 10%

White + Orange - Increases Player Defense stat by 10%

Triple - Additionally increases Player Attack stat by another 5% (additive) for a total of 15%

Green stats and its scaling with Heal stat are covered later.

Kinsect Stamina - The Numbers

Any Kinsect has 100 Stamina. Increasing to 200 with the Spirit buff.

When a Kinsect is recalled, it regains 30 Stamina normally, and 50 with the Spirit buff.

While a Kinsect is out, it will lose Stamina at a rate of 4/sec regardless of whether it is attacking or not. This number is reduced to two per second with the Stamina Boost Kinsect Bonus.

Passive Stamina Regen will be covered later.
