If you are struggling to afford reforges or buy anything then this guide was made for you! There are a lot of different ways to get money in Terraria and I tried to collect a few of them. I used the Calamity Mod while I made this guide. It makes all the boss summoning items non-consumable.

I also rated these methods in a 1-5 scale. Here's how:

1. Simplicity - How easy it is to build it / use it
   
2. Production Rate - How much money you can get from it
   
3. Overall - My opinion / based on the previous two ratings

IMPORTANT: The amount of money you can make depends on a lot of things (Like NPC happiness)



Increasing Luck with Potions / Gnomes / Torches etc. can help a lot.

The Lucky Coin, some Battle Potions and the Flask of Gold makes a pretty powerful trio. Use them whenever you can!

Catching critters with a Bug Net is one of the easiest ways of getting money. Their spawn rates can be increased with the help of a Water Candle. Animals like Penguin, Frog, Goldfish, Bunny, etc. sell better if they are cooked at the Cooking Pot. If you cook them these foods sells at around 23 81



(Go through your whole map a few times to get the most critters. Using a Battle Potion is highly recommended!)



Scores:
Simplicity: ★★★★★ - All you have to do is purchase a Bug Net from the Merchant and you are ready to go!

Production Rate: ★☆☆☆☆ - Critters doesn't spawn that often to get insane amounts of money.

Overall: ★★☆☆☆ - It's a decent method in early game but the amount of money you get is very little.

Killing bosses and selling their loots are one of the most easiest methods of getting money. It works even better if you have a stronger gear than the recommended. This will make the fight semi-AFK basically.



(Get yourself a really powerful weapon. It's even better if it has homing projectiles. Build a platform, stay grappled and just farm.)



I tested this by opening each Pre-Hardmode bosses (including the Calamity bosses) treasure bags 10 times and I sold all of the loots. You can get more money if you actually fight them, these are just raw numbers. Here are the results:

King Slime: 2 22
Desert Scourge: 2 37
Eye of Cthulhu: 3 96 (Recommended)

Scores:
Simplicity: ★★★★☆ - If you have non-consumable spawn items it's super easy to do. If you don't have Calamity Mod (or any mod that contains non-consumable boss summoning items) you have to rely on crafting.

Production Rate: ★★★★★ - Depends on the boss. In later Pre-Hardmode a few bosses like the Eye of Cthulhu becomes so easy that you can literally kill it in seconds.

Overall: ★★★★★ - One of the best way to farm money in my opinion.

You have to be patient if you choose Fishing as your money farm. I highly recommend (if u are lazy like me:D) using the Autofish mod. After defeating the Desert Scourge you can basically farm out the whole Angler set with all of the useful fishing accessories (Like the Angler Tackle Bag). I used some Fishing and Crate Potions, a Reinforced Fishing Pole and Enchanted Worms as bait. I used the Ocean biome as my fishing place.



(Invest in some nice Fishing Pole and accessories. Raining also boost your Fishing Power. With a Sextant you can watch the Moon's phases. Full Moon gives you 10% Fishing Power, Waning Gibbous gives 5% and Waxing Gibbous gives also 5%. These are the only Moon Phases that gives you extra Fishing Powers.)

Scores:
Simplicity: ★★★★★ - All you need is a Pole, some Baits and water.

Production Rate: ★★☆☆☆ - Fishing manually can be really boring and it doesn't make that much money.

Overall: ★★★☆☆ - The loots from fishing is definitely a great thing. I used a very basic fishing loadout so my Fishing Powers was not the greatest. Your loot / amount of money you get will probably be something else.

It's simple. All you need is a Mining Potion, an Obsidian Potion and a fast pickaxe. And the Underworld ofc.

After 15 minutes of mining I've got 2829 Hellstone Ore. I needed 943 Obsidian to turn them into Hellstone Bars which selled for 4 49



(These potions are recommended if you are mining in the Underworld: Obsidian Skin Potion, Mining Potion, Gills Potion, Flipper Potion, Water Walking Potion)



Scores:
Simplicity: ★★★★☆ - Fighting against enemies during the process can be annoying but it's not a big deal.

Production Rate: ★★★★☆ - You can make a lot of money but only if you can get a huge amount of Obsidian.

Overall: ★★★★☆ - It works great. Keep in mind that this method is more of a Pre-Hardmode strategy. You can quickly ran out of Hellstones if you mine in a Small world.

With the 1.4 Update the mob's pathing mechanic changed which means the old AFK money farm in the Ocean biome is not working anymore. Fortunatly, Zuzucorn (and his commenters) made a solution to this problem which resulted in a semi-AFK money farm.


Go to the edge of the ocean and build a mud platform one block above the ocean. Then find a spot that is 4 blocks wide and mark it.

Make a little "U" shape which can contain enough water to drown you.

Use some buckets or the Super Absorbant Sponge to scoop out just enough water to stop the drowning.

Make a pyramid thing just like in the picture. Hammer out all the edges. Make yourself a 2 block platform to stand on. Hammer it into a "V" shaped thing. Also build some platforms below you.

Build yourself a nice little base and start spreading Jungle Seeds or use Mushroom Seeds which you can turn into a Jungle Biome with the Clentaminator. Add a Water Candle to boost spawn rates. Hammer out the block right next to the doors so the mob's will not stuck there.

Cover the whole floor of the Ocean with mud and start spreading Jungle Seeds there too. This will prevent Sharks and other Ocean mob's from spawning. The Jungle biome have higher spawn rates too.

You're done! You can start farming now!


After using this farm for 10 minutes I've got 1 and around 80


Scores:
Simplicity: ★★☆☆☆ - You need the Lucky Coin to use this farm efficiently which is one of the rarest items in the game. Altough the building blocks that you need to build this farm isn't hard to get at all. Altough, this farm isn't fully AFK. I had to go down and cheese some mob's into the platforms to start farming.

Production Rate: ★★★☆☆ - Not the best but it’s also not that bad. Makes a decent amount of money.

Overall: ★★★☆☆ - It works but nearly isn't that good like the old one. ;_;

This farm is perfect for gathering resources too!


Make a 99 x 168 block wide arena. Build a platform across the arena in the 50th block. Be sure that you are building this in the Cavern layer.

Place lava in the bottom of the arena to prevent enemies to spawn.

Make a pyramid in the middle. The 84th block from each side is the center. I've built it 9 block tall.

You can make a little platform with lava which can kill bats.

Make yourself a little box where you can go AFK. I'm highly recommending placing a bed there because sometimes things can go a little bit off.

Put a 1 Second Timer in your base and a Dart Trap to the two corners of the arena. This will "wake up" Mimic's which means you will get better loot. Sadly this can activate Biome Mimic's too and this is where the bed comes handy.

Place 140 Jungle Seeds which will create an Artificial Jungle Biome. Jungle Biome's have a higher spawnrate which means more enemies. I've also added a Water Candle to boost spawnrates even more.

Making Artificial Biomes makes this a really good resource farm too.
Here's what you need:

• 140 Jungle Blocks - Artificial Jungle Biome
  
• 1500 Ice Blocks - Artificial Ice Biome
  
• 1500 Sand Blocks - Artificial Desert Biome
  
• 300 Crimson / Corruption / Hallow Blocks - Artificial Evil Biomes

If you want to farm the Rod of Discord:

• Make sure there's no walls behind you
  
• No NPC's around you
  
• Build a Pearlstone runway
  
• Stay Grappled

After 30 minutes of farming and selling all the loots I've got: 8 59


Scores:
Simplicity: ★★☆☆☆ - Building this can be a huge pain because of the enemies that are trying to kill you. Also you have to dig a lot. Or just use Sticky Dynamites.

Production Rate: ★★★★★ - A perfect farm for money / resources.

Overall: ★★★★☆ - It's an awesome Hardcore farm! It can take some time to build it but definitely worth it.

There is a high chance that this glitch will become patched one day.

Place down a chest and put in the items.

Turn off Autosave and press Save & Exit.

Go back to your world.

Take out your items.

Die. The easiest way is probably by fall damage. As soon as you die press Alt + F4.

Open tModLoader again and go back to your world. If you did everything right your items should've been duplicated.

Basically you can dupe everything with this method (excluding coins).

Simplicity: ★★★★★ - You only need a chest and the items that you want to duplicate.

Production Rate: ★★★★★ - It's infinite lol

Overall: ★☆☆☆☆ - don't cheat ಠ_ಠ
