FAQs
Where can I find x ore?
  • Tin can be found in the snowy mountains at the same level as iron, it only spawns under snow. Tin can also be purchased at the Merchant
  • Gold can be found under snow in the mountains beneath Tin. Gold can also be purchased at the Merchant. Located approx 29 blocks beneath the surface, it is uncommon.
  • Zinc can be found under mammoth trees, at iron level
  • Coal can be found under mammoth trees, at iron level. (Kinda hard to see)
  • Sulphur can be found under the Heath, located approx 29 blocks beneath the surface
  • Silica can be found under the Heath, exclusively under sand, at about 11-13 blocks beneath the surface
  • Lead can be found under the marsh at iron level

Where can I find out where items are made?

Hover over an item icon and it will show you where you can get it

Where can I grow Hemp?

Hemp can be grown in Marshes (sometimes referred to in game as Swamps), or you can dig up the grass found in marshes and place it anywhere else and hemp will grow on that

Where do I get clay?

Clay can be found underground, it is in the first layer of ores as you reach the dark stone

Where are jobs now?

If you are a returning player, many jobs are now placeable job blocks which can be crafted initially at the Tinkerer

Is there any other way to get animal carcass than buying?

Yes, you can research "Local Animal Carcass" in the Iron age which will allow you to make animal carcasses out of chicken meals

How does Threat work?

Threat is distributed among your outposts proportionate to the number of colonists at the outpost. For example: Outpost A has 90 colonists, Outpost B has 10 colonists, Outpost A will receive 90% of the overall threat. This can be adjusted with the use of Threat Banners

What is a Threat Banner and how do they work?

Threat banners increase the proportion of threat an outpost receives, placing one in an outpost will mean that outpost gets more of the threat distributed between your colonies, thus reducing but NOT eliminating the threat at the other outposts, this is useful if you want to make a dedicated outpost for dealing with your threat and not having to have massive defences at every outpost

Why are Iron Tools worse than Bronze?

Literally no idea

What is the best meal in the game?

In theory its meant to be the last meal however with current balancing Fish, and Wheat Porridge are really strong

I'm not receiving achievements / where have all my achievements gone?!

As of 22nd Dec 2022 all achievements have been reset and the game has an entire new suite of achievements to corresponding with the major gameplay changes. Some achievements are bugged and don't properly activate and returning players may see they already have the 'place a banner' achievement before even starting the game. This is normal

How do you increase the colony points you can store for colony upgrades?

Colony points are earnt through selling goods at the Merchant, to upgrade your capacity place Lockboxes but be warned as these increase your threat!

Why are no monsters spawning?

Your first 25 colonists generate no threat, this gives you a chance to learn how things work and create a more stable beginning

How can I add mods to 0.9?

Go to the Colony Survival Steam Workshop, there you will find a tag for 0.9+ which shows you all currently updated mods for the game

How do I enable cheats?

Thanks for the comprehensive guide! About iron vs bronze:

"IRL, Bronze is stronger than iron (Generally, modern metallurgy might challenge this a little) but as you mentioned, its not nearly as accessible as iron.

From a gameplay perspective, you may just get enough tin by hand and not bother with an outpost, so it being stronger encourages its situational use."
