Before I start to explain to you how to fix this bothersome problem, let me notify you that this game does not have a vibration/rumble feature. If you find a way to make the vibration work, please let me know.

WHY I MADE THIS GUIDE?

The first Assassin's Creed game do not have Support anymore to solve problems of one of the most annoying ones related to our controllers: doesn't recognize it or triggers not working properly. This fix only works with this game, and I do not recommend doing the same with other ones that have similar issues.

Let's start to fix this and enjoy the game!

EAGLEPATCHAC1

UPDATE: For those who are trying to play the game with a wireless gamepad: use the controller wired instead of wireless; will solve all your problems.

EaglePatchAC1 is an ASI plugin that fixes a number of issues in Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition (Steam Edition & GOG).

Features:

- Unlocked multisampling on high resolutions
- Added support of all XInput controllers
- Added detection of hotplugged controllers
- Removed support of DInput controllers
- Gamepad and kb/mouse controls work at the same time
- Added ini setting for enabling PS3-like controls
- Added ini setting to skip intro videos (without having to rename files)
- [DX10 only] Fixed doubling of resolution modes in settings

INSTALATION:

Download Ultimate ASI Loader[github.com] and EaglePatchAC1[github.com]

Put dinput8.dll from Ultimate ASI Loader into your Assassin's Creed directory:

In your Assassin's Creed directory create a folder named scripts:

Put EaglePatchAC1.asi and EaglePatchAC1.ini into a newly created scripts folder:

You are done! Enjoy the game! You may want to check EaglePatchAC1.ini for any settings you want to enable or disable.

SETTING IT UP ON STEAM

You need to go to your game library, right-click on Assassin's Creed, and then go to Manage and later Controller Layout:

Inside the menu, select the Gamepad template:

And that's it! Run Assassin's Creed as usual enjoying full support of your gamepad of choice!

Maybe this problem was fixed a long time ago, but after spending a whole day trying to find the way to play Assassin's Creed with an Xbox and PlayStation controller, I must say that the effort and patience were worth my time!

Where's EAGLEPATCHAC1.ini and EAGLEPATCHAC1.asi ? I can't find it in the download file

OR you could go into game properties, controller, and trick the game into thinking the controller is an xbox 360 controller
Thats what i did, no editing or anything, it'll just use steam input

Only thing I need to figure out now is why my game still randomly lags. Is the profile inspector safe? when i go to open it my pc warns me that it may not be safe.

Nevermind, I restarted the game and it worked perfectly. I didn't even have to go into the options to swtich it to controller either. Worked automatically. Thanks for the great guide. If only these plug-ins fixed the rest of the problems. The constant lag from internet connection searching is unbearable. And I've had to restart the tutorial 4 times already and sit through the opening dialogue for 5 mins every time... Painful. I threw the guy but missed somehow. And now the guy I'm supposed to throw won't show up, putting me in an endless loop of failure. Then I assassinate a guy, his friend comes to attack me and Im supposed to run up a ladder... only I teleported away and behind an invisible wall. Then I made it to that part again and fell through the floor in a hypersonic death spin. I hope the game itself isn't this buggy. But after hours trying to make the controller work, these bugs have beaten me and I'm giving up trying to play this game for a while.
