How To Use TES 2 Daggerfall Cheats on Steam (DOSBox)
By Depression Maxing
Hey there,

I have been struggling a long time to find a good guide explaining how to use cheats in Daggerfall. After doing some research and some experimenting I found a way that works to enable the cheats for the Steam version of The Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall.

And I wanted to share this with the community if they would like to know how to enable them.

How it works
To begin enable cheats, we have to go to our DAGGER map and look for the Z.cfg file.

For me it is located at F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall\DF\DAGGER --> Z.cfg file

Open this up with notepad and add "cheatmode 1" add the bottom of the file:

When this is done we have enabled cheats for the game.

Now the biggest problem for me was that the cheat commands I found on some websites like gamespot didn't tell you that those commands in the DOSBox emulator won't work.

This is because some of these commands are commands for the DOSBox emulator it self I assume. And to get rid of this problem we have to open up the game, and load in a save file for a character, and press "CTRL F1" this will bring up a screen like this:

First thing you will notice wich might ring a bell why some cheats didn't work, is that the emulator works with a QWERTY keyboard (mine is AZERTY) so some buttons are changed from place.

For example "+" on QWERTY is "-" on my AZERTY keyboard and this is not the "+" and "-" from the Num Lock pad you must use for the cheats to work.

But another very important one is that we need to click on the "CTRL button" and then click on the "Add button" and change the "CTRL key" to "ALT key" because some cheats will close the game. If you want the cheat to get money you have to press "CTRL F9" but this also closes the game. But by changing "CTRL" to "ALT" we can now press "ALT F9" to give ourselves money and the game won't crash.

So basically if you want to enter a cheat check the keyboard with "CTRL F1" to be sure you are pressing the right button.

The cheats I found online that are interesting for me were the following:

Very important note: I had to use all these cheats when my character was controleable. If I pressed these commands with my inventory open it didn't work. So use the command when your character is standing somewhere safe.

ALT F11 --> resets your position I think to the last spot you stood still for a moment (handy if you got stuck)

CTRL F9 => becomes ALT F9 --> gives the player 5000 gold and is spamable

+ => becomes - for AZERTY keyboard (do not use "-" from Num Pad it has to be from the key near the "backspace key" for it to work) --> this makes you level up your skills so your character can level up when you have rested for the mandatory 5 hours (this is the main reason why I wanted to cheat because leveling in this game is not so fun, and main quests only unlock at certain levels)

CTRL F4 => becomes ALT F4 --> enables godmode (might not make you complete immune to all damage forms but against fall damage it does)

I made this guide pretty fast because I had to get up early for work the other day. But I hope it can atleast help some people out there.
