Death from Above: Slim's Guide to Paratrooping
By Slim`
Paratroopers, Paratroopers, and more Paratroopers. Due to the recent return of these deadly units, there have been a large influx of new Paratroopers. This guide will contain the pointers you need to become more effective on the battlefield, knowing your role, and hopefully turn you into a better Jumper!

I. The basics of Jumping
First of all, if you're a new Paratrooper or planning to become one, you should know the basics of jumping and placement. In most cases, you will have a C47A Skytrain at your disposal, to taxi you around the map. The C47 will generally bring you to the Dropzone you have chosen, and give you a heads up at how far away you are from your destination. At the bottom of the screen, it will say "Nearing Dropzone [# of Meters away]." This number will update every 50 Meters you travel. Essentially, every 50 Meters you get closer to the Dropzone, the number will change accordingly.

Caution! The Dropzone at the bottom of you're screen isn't always the one you want to land on. In some cases, the Skytrain will fly to another objective you have not requested to drop on (This is due to other jumpers requesting Dropzone before you, or various other reasons). At the bottom of your screen, it will read "Nearing Chosen Dropzone [# of Meters away]." This will ensure you get where you want to go, however, Paratroopers are EXTREMELY effective as a group. It's usually best to stay with your Squad and move about/capture Objectives together.
Key Note: Paratroopes aren't Lone Wolfs!

Momentum, the key to landing where you want. As in real life, when you jump from the C47 you keep a lot of momentum from the flight of the Plane. You'll be flung forwards after the C47 as you fall, propelling you until your velocity lowers and your parachute opens. I've found out that the BEST time to jump for landing on you're chosen Dropzone is between 300 and 250 Meters. When you see on your screen that you are 300 Meters away, wait a VERY short moment, and jump! You'll land right on top of the Dropzone. However, this isn't always what you, as a Paratrooper, need to be focusing on.
II. Know your Role
Stick with your Squad, and understand how you should be fighting.

Durring World War 2, Paratroopers were mainly used by the Allied forces to drop behind enemy lines, and cause confusion, go on demolition runs, and capture special objectives.
Key Note: You aren't an Infantry Man anymore!

Use the C47A Skytrain to drop behind the front lines, and flank the enemy to support your team. OR drop into lesser populated enemy objectives (hopefully) with your Squad, and capture them for your team. You're a Paratrooper. Play smart, play tactical. Don't be a ninja and get nothing done like the Recons, you have the ability to drop onto any objective on the map. Take advantage of that and don't just fight on the front lines like the Infantry. That isn't your place anymore. However, it's alright if you get caught up fighting on the lines if you're taking an objective. If your team needs you there, then be with them.
Key Note: Above all, support your team by playing the objective, and stick together as a Squad.
III. Weaponry
As most of the Veteran Paratroopers know, the new Paratrooper loadout only allows 6 equipment slots. This is extremely low. This limits Paratroopers to only carrying light weaponry with them. This is enough for an M3 Grease Gun with 1 pouch of ammo, or an M1 Garand with 2 pouches of ammo etc. I recommend the Thompson M1A1 for towns and cities, because it EATS people at close range. The Thompson is the best and most powerful CQC firearm in the game. The M1 Garand is good for fields and more open maps, due its high accuracy and possibility of 2-3 shot kills at long range. However, depending on your aim, the Johnson LMG can be a great crossover betweeon the two weapons. It has a 20 round magazine, and you can use the Hoarder Badge to carry more ammo. It can get 3 shot kills fully modded at close range, and can still do damage at distance with tap firing. (When taking the M1 in urban areas, remember to AIM FOR THE HEAD. Get that quick kill and keep moving. Remember Part II of this guide.)

Hopefully in the future the Paratrooper's number of equipment slots will be raised. However, for now Pack light and raise hell.
IV. Closing
Remember, Paratroopers must constantly adapt to the battlefield, and support their team. Try experimenting with different combinations of guns and equipment, and remember to Stick together. This guide is meant to help beginning Paratroopers, and is by no means the only succesful way to play. I encourage everyone to find a strategy that works for them, and remember the basics of being a good Jumper. So go get out there and spread you large circular wing!

One of the few online FPS games I enjoyed playing. And I loved the feel when my para was deployed in a free fall. M1 Garand was my fav rifle when playing as a US para. There must be a way to get this game up and running again.

Tip: Depending on the altitude of the C47 during your jump, it may be best to jump at 350 meters. 350 works best for me personally, however if they plane's flying lower than normal you may overshoot your LZ if you jump at 350.
