FATE: The Cursed King Achievement guide *WIP* Need help!
By Menthol Reward
I have made this guide to help others who like me had trouble with figuring out what the holy hell is the process to some of the achievements for the game FATE: The Cursed King. FATE: The Cursed King is a game in a series mostly about fishing! Oh yeah, there's this other dungeon crawler aspect I guess. Note this is not complete and still a work in progress.

Achievements that have been (mostly) solved.
On Duty
You will gain some gold and fame, completing quests along the way

Simply complete 10 Quests from the townspeople. This should be straight forward, and shouldn't be hard.

Dungeon raiders
An adventure by yourself is not the best. Recruit some friends to complete your quest

Hire four mercenaries, you can do this by simply talking to Absalta (picture on the right) in Ekbatan (the main hub).

NOTE: you won't be able to complete the "Lone wolf" achievement and the "Dungeon raiders" achievement with one character.

This will obviously take a bit of money, so I would recommend to fish for the money. Or to keep grinding by doing quests/exploring the dungeons.

Gem greedy
Gems are hard to acquire. You won´t get these because they´re mine.

This one is a bit misleading, the achievement gem greedy is not bugged, but instead it is worded weirdly. The goal is not to collect gems on their own, but instead is to extract a gem from any item 10 times. You can extract a gem from an item by talking to Xander (picture on the right) in Ekbatan (the main hub).

NOTE: multi-gem items will only count ONCE towards the achievement count. For example, if I extracted three gems from a sword, it would only count as one gem extracted towards the achievement, not three.

With this in mind you would need money for one gem (or you can fish for gems for free), and buy multiple socked items. Then keep extracting the gem from from different items (remember the item gets destroyed after collecting the gem) until you reach the achievement.

Lone wolf
Wolves usually hunt in packs, but not this wolf, as alone he walks.

Beat the game without having to recruit a mercenary, then retire. You can retire by beating the final boss, T' Kala.

NOTE: as mentioned above, you won't be able to complete the "Lone wolf" achievement and the "Dungeon raiders" achievement with one character.

Master enchanter
Keep enchanting to get better. Well known is that practice makes perfect.

Enchant 10 items. You can enchant by finding anvils in dungeons, or by going to Natark the Enchanter (picture on the right) in Ekbatan and paying a fee to enchant.

NOTE: I've been looking through the steam discussions for other achievements and have found that people either don't know the count or just say a certain number of items needed. I've seen numbers like 10, 20, and even 30 items to enchant and obtain this achievement, but looking at steam achievements it has a counter of 10. So as a result I am confidently staying with enchanting 10 items would be enough for this achievement. If I am wrong and you have proof of a higher number (or somehow even lower number) I will update this guide accordingly.

Like with most of these achievements, I would advise to make money by fishing till you're rich! Or you can be lame and go through the dungeons.

Dungeon Master
Dangerous places ahead of me, every path must I reveal.

Now time for the positives, thanks to the community and my collective research on this games achievements, this one has been solved.

Now time for the sad-sads: this achievement seems like absolute hell and a pain to go through. Now below I will list the requirements:

  1. Kill any and all mobs on every level of every dungeon until you get to the realm boss.
  2. Explore the entirety of every level of every dungeon until you get to the realm boss.
    • Don't go to the next level until both of the rules above is cleared for each level
    • When you're done with the rules above, it is recommended to use the spell "Mental Map" to be safe.
  3. Don't go back to town until you know for a damn fact that you cleared that floor.
  4. Never send your pet to town.
  5. Don't die

NOTE: I have a mod that makes the dungeons smaller, and potentially makes this achievement more bearable .

Failure of any rules above will result in the Achievement being voided for that character. As a result you have to make a new character and start again from the first dungeon.

Big time hunter
I am gonna get my prey ....it´s best for you to run away

Thanks to chlorinated cat , we have confirmed that you have to kill at least 10 of the highest rank of a specific species in any of the dungeons. The best dungeon to kill them is the bonus dungeon after you beat the main quest line. From the information we have this can be done at any difficulties, but we don't know if it affects the spawn rate.

chlorinated cat mentions that he started a hardcore character on undiscovered realms, and noticed that higher ranks are spawning earlier. We have no idea if it translates over to the cursed king though. More details, strats, or methods are always appreciative!
Incomplete achievements
The following achievements need more information from the community (and hopefully you) to either to obtain the achievement, or what specifically triggers the achievements. I'm relying on what information I found, what the current community could share, or from my isolated tests.

Gold digger
One golden coin is not enough, getting fifty is a better reward.

Get a specific amount of gold. I don't know how much, but it shouldn't be a lot. If anyone has a specific number, that would be nice.

The inmortal
Three great monsters, I will defy... I shall not die on my first try

Beat the game (I believe without dying, I need more verification on this).

Friends for life
Friends since the day we were born, stay with me to fight them all.

From what I could find from steam fate community that is has to do with both pet level, and time spent with the pet. I tried to level up the pet to see if that is what triggers the achievement, but the achievement does not solely revolve around his level. From what I've seen from he community it seems to also revolve around the level and time spent with the pet. There is an exist time for the pet on the games save file so that might be true. I obviously need more verification on this.
Cheating in an achievement guide?!?!?!
Well, yes this might sound bad, BUT I did it on a separate account that I am family sharing on to TEST how I can and can't obtain these some of these achievements. I am putting this out there to be clear on how I found/research some of these achievements, and how to help the community overall how to find some of these achievements. And that one guy who is having a mental breakdown over that damned Dungeon Master achievement. I will be hiding both sections as a spoiler tag to prevent those who want to achieve these normally.

So as I was doing research for this guide, I came across this discussion:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/303690/discussions/0/624075566788776161/
I then tested it on my separate family shared account to check if they patched it, and it turns out to still work. I have no idea how this not only didn't get patched, but how it made it in the final product. Especially since this game is almost a decade old, the steam post came out about the same time as the game, and how WildTangent still exists and clearly still owns the Fate franchise. Eh, it is what it is I guess.

Cheating the Dungeon Master achievement?!?!?!
So thanks to Kweebsters' comment on this post:

This gave me the idea to edit the game's code to make the dungeons smaller so it'll be a breeze to work towards the achievement. After some crashing and changing some numbers around, I think I made it work. I did only test it by going down 15 levels straight without crashing or any MAJOR quirks at the first dungeon. Felt too lazy to test all the dungeons and the achievement. :P Here's the mod:

https://mega.nz/file/DdwjHIYC#DgPxJmAhFcIzYF0KdzBOX7-2nSvzhOT7zD-R1pNDRR0

Before you install this modification I would recommend you to make an entire copy of the "REALMS" folder in the games directory so you can have the original dungeons back when you're done. You can install it by adding it directly to the games files and overwriting the games files, I'd also recommend on making backups of your saves (I had out of bounds problems, and crashing issues while adjusting the numbers) located at:

C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\FateSteam\Persistent\SAVE

I am no modder, I don't make mods, most I've ever done was make some edits with texture packs for minecraft. So if there's a more experienced modder who can add on to this mod or a remake of the sorts I will be willing to add it to this guide over time. I also didn't change the spawn rates, so it'll probably be unbalanced as hell.

Closing Remarks
And a plea for help: If you know something about an achievement that isn't mentioned here please mention it in the comments.

If my grammar is wrong or I could've worded something better, LET ME KNOW. I'm a masochist for that crap.

Q and A
Q: Will I be making a similar guide for the other FATE games?
A: No, whenever I want to get a FATE fix I go play the cursed king. I also don't want to buy three other games when I have this one.

Q: Will you make another guide sometime?
A: Most likely not, I have a Catherine Classic achievement guide in production, but I doubt it'll even be finished in 2023. I only make guides of games I like and that lack of a guide, and while having constant motivation to keep me going.

Q: How can I repay you for this guide?
A: Three things.
  • Spread this guide around to people who need (not advertise but need) it.
  • Help me update this guide to completion.
  • Give me an award (any award), so I can keep giving them out to people. I don't expect this but it'd be nice. :D

If anyone deserves awards these two do, not me! They literally helped designed the basis for this guide, even if they don't know it!

no matter what i try i can't get the dungeon master trophy, seems borderline impossible, anybody have a link or video to how to make the mod work to cause the levels to be smaller?
floatingman 17 Jan @ 5:07am
So I've kinda figured out the problem. When I changed all the floors to 15x15 and put everything else like pits to min 0 max 0 it stopped crashing/freezing. Floors are bigger, but when I put all the other things in the tile section of config to 0, all the floors are completely open and the only variation there is that sometimes there is a big empty space in the middle of the room, like a pillar, but it's still nice and open without any tunnels. Went through the game once already that way but did not get the achievement, probably missed some enemies. Also, sometimes the ladder up spawns inside the wall, and if you try to descend facing the hole from above, u can get stuck and would have to ascend. I had to a couple of times, and that probably counts as "leaving the floor before it is cleared, so mb this is the reason my achievement got voided. I'm gonna try for real now, gonna post here if it worked and if I had any trouble.

im trying to use ur mod tile size mod, but almost every floor on descending it bugs out and the loading screen gets stuck. if that happens, reloading and trying again doesn't help, and i seemingly cant progress, until it just fixes itself after 500 game restarts. it would suck a lot if there is nothing i can do and this is the way i have to play for all dungeons, as it happens almost every floor. help would be appreciated

I tried it, with fishing and selling, and it still doesn't pop! do you think it's a specific rarity?
Hollowed Anarch 23 Aug, 2024 @ 1:22am
You need around 100k coins on the character to unlock Gold Digger.:CHERRYSODA:

Dungeon Master achievement is totally ridiculous. I'll just not waste the time and effort

Huh...It`s rly hard - start with 1 lvl on Hero difficulty WITHOUT town returns and deaths. Ofc, if you dont wanna fishing. :steamhappy:

So I hunted for the "Big Time Hunter" achievement, and this is how I got it. I cleared in the Ekbatan dungeon up to level 40. I got the little pop ups on my screen as I killed creatures (like 4/10, 5/10, and so forth). Some creatures that triggered it were the following: Swamp sorceress, greater basilisk, vampire, salamander, ebony stalker, orc veteran, and I don't remember the rest. I hope this helps someone like me who was looking for the achievement as well :)

I think Gold Digger is actually selling yellow items. I sold 5 (got them from fishing and got the achievement. I had over 100k gold before that from selling random shit but never sold a Yellow item. Every yellow i sold, progress popped up. Will try that on a separate char and probably go through editing all items sell prices to be 1 so we can exclude gold as a factor.

That is a good question. I would have no idea! (I haven't 100% this game ('o-o)). Feel free to test it out!
