Savage Hunters: The Tribe of the Wolf

Description
Updated for Patch 4.2

About the "Tribes of the North" Mod
This mod is going to be maintained SEPARATELY from Tribes of the North. This mod is our original, non-canon lore centered on the characters of Rafford, Rána, Arngrim, and Hidolfr. Wolfguard were our own creation, as was the tribes location and purpose.

Our collaboration with Tribes of the North modifies the Wolftribe to fit lore (as there is an actual loreful "Tribe of the Wolf "mentioned in official sources). Overall, the ToN version is far more balanced and has some fun new toys to play with (such as the berserker twins).Rána and Hidolfr still exist in ToN, just with different names and some new abilities, but they are found in other tribes and will need to be confederated to acquire.

As for the Wolfguard...we'll see about incorporating them either as a limited recruitment unit via landmark (as in our mod) or as RoRs in a later ToN update. For now, we wanted to push out a solid initial release.

Let me reiterate, THIS MOD WILL NOT WORK with Tribes of the North. You will need to either play one or the other. I have no plans to create a submod moving or renaming characters, as ToN is meant to be the canon-version.

Thanks to everyone who has enjoyed (and continues to enjoy) our mod, and I encourage you to also try out Tribes of the North and to leave good ratings on it -- it is an immense collaboration from many talented modders that gives Norsca and all its diverse tribes the love they deserve.

Now with Support for The Old World Campaign!
The Tribe of the Wolf has surfaced in the frigid lands north of the Old World, with a few minor changes:
  • The missions to unlock Hidolfr and Rana now require you to travel to different regions
  • The Tribe of the Wolf starts at war with the Archaon (this was determined by TOW's initial diplomacy settings).
  • Be careful, you have 2 Dark Fortress locations which you cannot lose to a WoC faction: Naglheim, and the Monolith of Gutrot.

Rafford the Wolf
On a cold and perilous Rúnanótt (or “Geheimnisnacht,” as the southerners call it), a dying thrall fled into the tundra to give birth. Her wails were loud and lonely, but her efforts bore fruit — her babe’s first breath was full of ice, and Rafford was welcomed into the world by the distant howling of wolves. How the boy survived is a matter of speculation, as are his origins. Some say his father was a thrall, others a chieftain. Many, however, claim he is the offspring of Olric himself, and that the Winter Wolf carried him to safety that fateful night. Regardless, it is true that the blood of a wolf runs through Rafford’s veins. A Skin Wolf since birth, Rafford has mastered his feral and savage appetites, channeling the beast’s bloodlust against his foes. His ferocity and prowess have become a local legend, drawing other skin wolves and werekin to his banner. For now, the Tribe of the Wolf rules the Naglfari Plain, hunting across its mountains and tundra. Yet greater prey lives beyond the Tribe’s lands – perhaps it is time to begin the Hunt?

Rafford Olricsson, “The Wolf,” is a new legendary lord for Norsca. A mighty Skin Wolf, he can change back and forth between his human and beast forms in the heat of battle. He leads the Tribe of the Wolf in the Immortal Empires campaign.

New Faction: The Tribe of the Wolf
This mod introduces a new playable faction for Norsca: The Tribe of the Wolf.
While not canon (as the Tribe of the Wolf is an original creation), this faction is based on existing Skin Wolf and Norscan lore, with a nod towards the various gods and cultural beliefs of the Norscan tribes.

Faction Effects
  • Upkeep: -20% for Skin Wolves, Norscan Ice Wolves, and Warhounds (all armies)
  • Melee attack: +5 for Skin Wolves, Norscan Ice Wolves, and Warhounds (all armies)

Lord Effects
  • +12% Leadership for Skin Wolves (lord’s army)
  • +10% Weapon Strength for Skin Wolves, Norscan Ice Wolves, and Warhounds (lord’s army)
  • Vanguard Deployment for Norscan Ice Wolves (lord’s army)

New Units
  • Arngrim Frostaxe, a legendary Skin Wolf berserker and sworn blood-brother to Rafford.
  • Hidolfr One-Eye, a wandering Vitki who wields the powers of ice, snow, and beast.
  • Rána of the Wood, the chieftess of the Tribe and a huntress who rides upon a giant ice wolf.
  • Three new, limited-recruitment infantry units, including one Regiment of Renown, unique to the Tribe of the Wolf.

Other Features
Hunting Journeys
Rafford and the Packlords have access to the “Hunting Journeys” mechanic, a spin-off of the Path to Glory system. Venture out across the world and bring down certain foes, and your lords will unlock powerful buffs for themselves and their armies.

Hunting Camps
Rafford and the Packlords have attached hordes with a custom building set, allowing them access to limited unit recruitment, buffs for wolven units, and campaign movement and ambush improvements!

This mod has not been updated since Patch 4.2 in February of last year. I do not have any plans to update this mod in the near future as all of its contents was transferred and expanded upon in SCM's Tribes of the North mod, I am currently focused on my main, much larger Hung project, and RAF is mostly retired from modding.

Perhaps in the future, once I've released and fully polished the Hung to the point that I am satisfied with them, I'll return and update this mod as it is a standalone version different from the canon-friendly ToTN version. But I can't make any promises, as I just don't have the time nor motivation to do so right now. Likely, in the distant future when CA stops updating WH3 (and modders won't need to consistently update mods countless times), I'll do one final restorative update so that players can enjoy it in perpetuity.

I cannot recommend enough that you try the Tribe of the Wolf in SCM's mod. It is being consistently updated by the team and includes a wealth of visual and narrative content to enjoy. I am truly grateful for everyone who loves this mod and its standalone lore/characters which RAF and I crafted. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
