Basics
In most games what keeps me going is a good healing spell, even something as simple as a tap self heal is enough, later on you'll want to put this healing spell into a charm, preferable something that happens often, like whenever deal damage or every second.

A good movement spell is also a good idea, this can be done with a self targeting knockback or any spell with pushback, this will let you evade massive hits, I recommend to put this spell in a Hold Pattern, because if you do, then the spell will easily let you fly, this is very valuable in later levels.
(Specified) Beginnings - First Spell
My first spell is typically either a hold pattern self heal or a tap self heal, Hold can work better as you don't need to pay to much attention to the damage you're taking as you cast it. There are exceptions to this, if you find a really good synergy though your first 2 grabs, then it is accaptable, just remember that with every peice in the altar you don't plan on using, to pick thing to help you make a self heal spell later, the quicker you get one, the better.
Tips/End
So, Honestly, I'm very new to this game, and don't know much else to put here, so I'll just put some things I found that might be useful to know, if you have any other info you'd like to add, feel free to tell, all extra info is good to know.


There's a mini-boss in a cave in the first area that you can fight, they'll give you knowledge which is always good, but don't go down the hole afterwards, I don't know if there's a way to escape but it brings you to an arena that I couldn't find an exit for and I had to restart my run.

With your movement spell, sometimes you'll get launched out of bounds, now, with this you can skip areas and you can block damage, but don't forget to go back into the areas left behind, as every lost room is also lost spell components, these could all be useful for your offensive spells.
New: Final Boss Tips
I have finally beaten the final boss, so now I can talk damage spells

Rapid fire meteors got me really far in 1 run I had, but I had to learn the hard way that the final boss is immune to meteors

You probably want to somehow get a shot that has no gravity to it, as the final boss, minor spoilers, is in midair, and while you can climb to it, it may be easier to just shoot it from the ground. You can also use a movement spell to reach it.
