What research points should be used for this style? I’m guessing trenches and supply.
Basically, WW1 is about attrition and if you're front consists of logistic hubs and medical tents, even when it's a "minor loss" through auto-resolve, your enemy loses more national will than you.
That being said, if you actually play the tactical battles, go for tanks and planes and so on in addition to logi+tents, the game becomes simply more engaging for you - especially if the AI invests into logistics even more than you did, it becomes kinda necessary if your concept of the game is more than "shift the strategic resources around and look national will of enemy go down with each round faster than yours".
