UNOFFICIAL HARDCORE MOD - DIVIDE ET IMPERA

Description
This DeI submod is a compilation of the different difficulty submods I personally use, as well as a few new additions.
Intended for Hard campaign difficulty, but will work on VH and Legendary too.

Overall, these changes are especially geared to slow down and make the mid game more challenging, as that's where most campaigns start snowballing fast.

Cultural Tensions
  • Slower cultural conversion.
  • Higher Local Traditions across the board and takes majority culture of neighboring provinces into account, meaning higher thresholds before you become culturally dominant in foreign territory.
  • Harsher public order penalty (cultural differences) across the board; Lower public order will further exacerbate this.
  • Worse diplomatic relations (cultural affinity) between different cultures, depending on historical factors.

Limited AOR
  • Removes all AOR from Tier 1 Main Building chains.
  • Main Building chain T2 only unlocks low tier AOR.
  • T3 Main Building or T2 Immigrant Quarters will be required for high quality AOR.
  • Removes elephant AOR from all minor settlement Main Buildings.

No Deployables
  • Removes deployable defenses such as spike traps and obstacles. The AI is not programmed to use or play against them, and they can especially make siege defenses cheesy.

Other changes
  • Increased diplomatic penalties (expansionism) for mid game Imperium levels 2-5. Reaching Imperium 3 is often the point from which the player starts to snowball. This change will make diplomacy harder and make enemies more likely to declare war on you, without affecting factions that start out small.
  • Slight increase to AI capital income, to hopefully allow them to make higher quality early armies.

    And yes, as you can tell by the mod image, graphic design is my passion.

Are the Steam links the same mods you've got listed at the end? I can't read what "add_working_directory "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/214950/1652124058"" is :s

However, I'm almost certain the issue is with Politics Reforged as I believe that mod fiddles with Imperium effects and EM, among with many, many things. Could you check if disabling that mod solves the issue?

Thank you for the late game feedback!
I'm pretty sure I intentionally left the late game Imperium penalties alone, since my main focus was slowing down the the early-mid game -- thereby affecting how the player reaches the late game.

Would you please list your full load order please? So that I can rule out any other submod interference.

But also the traits and toadies cards you can assign to characters, over time when you collect the good ones this provides a MASSIVE boost in all kinds of areas compared to when you have just started out the game.

I think that the higher imperium levels therefore should be significantly more unforgiving than they are now. Maybe even have it become much more penalizing even from imperium level 5.

From playing to this point in the game, and ignoring the mentioned apparant bug with maintenance % resetting, I think that from level 6 and up each new level should be even more negative than it is now. I have been flooded with money and high public order (due to tech research and developed governors and characters) at least since imperium level 6, and all of the characters getting born and married in my family adds a ton of positive modifiers, like wives progression gives nice commulative percentage bonus to cultural income and some reduction in empire maintenance (note that my many family wives is NOT the cause of the low 3.6% maintenance value by the as it went from around 40% to 3.6% in the turn following my imperium level increasing from 6 to 7).

When I reached Imperium level 7 my empire maintenance went from around 40% to 3.6%. I don't know if this is due to this mod, or the other mod im using called Politics Reforged. Im using DEI version downloaded from DEI website on 31 July 2024.

I think Nisean cav is missing from Parthava. Can't recruit them at any main building level nor with city quarter. I was able to recruit them until i converted the main buildings(I'm playing Seleukidai, don't know if that helps).

Apart from that i love your mod, having every single IA aggressive/treacherous with the official hardcore mod was a bit much for me.
