i. DML previously contained 2 bugged achievements: "Only if it's consensual" and "I want you". These achievements have now been removed by the developer thanks to the suggestion of sys.da.prototyp. Many of us had attempted multiple playthroughs in which the the game's code/script has included the correct lines (and the mantis conversations reflected this) but aforementioned achievements did not pop. Big thanks to DrottningElf for originally locating the script and pointing out how following key sentences could be used to help with unlocking those achievements.

ii. The script in Don't Make Love (DML) needs you to input a response to progress. The response can be words, physical affection (caress, hug or kiss), or facial reaction (smile, sadness, surprise, anger). Your responses will not always have an effect on some sentences in the script (ie the mantis will continue their monologue unaffected) but you can interrupt or hijack the flow of the script. Sometimes responses will vary even if you enter the exact same inputs so the road to unlocking achievements isn't always cut and dry.



iii. DML will assign numerical values (eg 0.1 or -0.4) depending on your responses. These numbers can increase or decrease overall levels of emotions including anger and love. DML also has a counter which will keep track of things like the number of nonsense words (unable to be recognised by the game's conversational engine) used; this too determines the outcome of your playthrough.

iv. This game is difficult to decipher. So let's work together to unravel the mysteries and build a great guide! Would love to add people below as co-contributors to make this a joint-guide because they did a lot of groundwork and deserve the most recognition for their efforts.

This requires you to reach endings that aren't immediately obvious or too common. Some of them are break up endings but some of them are make love endings.

Keep kissing the male mantis. That's it. He will protest; ignore those protestations until the end, when he says: "I'm sorry but I'm worried. I need to stay away from you, at least for now."

Tell the male mantis you would like to leave. He should respond: "(Surprised) Where? We're in the middle of a conversation!" Follow that up with "Go away from you". 4. Sal1 reports that using the 'hate sex' dialogue (say you're not interested in sex, that sex isn't important) the counter can jump by several numbers-in his playthrough from 5 to 12.

5. What's best for both of us

• Force your partner (male) to break up with you in as many ways as possible. The achievement lists 17, but you may only need to do a few for the counter to jump up by several numbers (reason unknown).

• Some endings have less impact than others. In some playthroughs, using 2 different non-verbal responses (eg smile only & be surprised only) will increase the counter, but any subsequent non-verbal responses (eg be upset only & be sad only) will no longer work; there may be a limit.

• What you're ultimately looking for are differently worded endings.

It (seemingly) doesn't matter if your conversation has a different trajectory in the middle because if it ends in "it's over, I wish I'd seen what a horrible mantis you are" and you've already experienced that ending, it doesn't seem move the counter. Below are several different endings that can be obtained. Under construction. Credit to Vinegar Guy for listing these methods.

1. "It's over. I just wish I'd seen what a horrible mantis you are sooner." Makes counter increase by 1.

Keep calling the mantis stupid/other insults.

2. "Now you have a reason to be shocked: our relationship ends now."

Keep being surprised. This will annoy the male mantis and force him to break up with you.

3. "If you're asking for that, how can I refuse? Maybe one day you'll realize how important this conversation was for me."

The last ending I was missing involved being extremely rude to the mantis and basically swearing at them and calling them names nonstop. You need to get: "NO WAY! And you consider yourself a mantis? You're despicable, the worst...I'm at a loss of words..."

This requires you to play as female and break up with the male mantis supposedly in 10 different ways. I say supposedly because the counter for this is funny. Some break up methods can increase the counter by 2 while others only increase it by 1 and so on. I will include footage of all the methods that increase the counter below. What you want are differently worded endings.



This particular playthrough took the following 4 break up methods to unlock the achievement but your mileage may vary.

• The achievement description states: your partner was more inclined to make love while talking about your peers. The very first line of the paragraph immediately begins with the female mantis saying "Sometimes I don't feel comfortable with our peers." From that point on, it seems what you answer is very important.
  
  
• Another factor to take note of is the emotional value. For instance, entering rude/mean responses causes the anger value to increase from 0.10 to 0.19 to 0.31 and so on which ultimately triggers the mantis to break up with you.
  
  
• In script #1 from the vimeo playthrough, the achievement not working is likely due to the consensual value not being properly reached: the script.txt file includes two variations: $othercouples_consensual =0 OR $othercouples_consensual = 1. My current theory is that you must reach consensual = 1 for the achievement to work but I'm not sure how to reach that value. [Incorrect, further tests prove reaching consensual=1 does not unlock achievement]

• Begin from 4:40. Recording contains pauses because I needed to read written notes I had taken containing answers based on the script1.text file, and leaving the game unattended may cause the game to register the lack of response as ignoring and skip essential parts of the conversation.
  
  
• 'What was that kiss for?' is not meant to appear in the conversation. As grzegorz77 has pointed out, these are conversational 'traps' which are difficult to avoid; these traps appear randomly (?) and ultimately cause bits of dialogue that you need to be skipped over. In other words: the game's conversational engine looks at your input, and will try to match that with something in word list. If a match isn't found, the next topic will be triggered.
  
  
• "Only if it's consensual" appears at 6:43. Once again, no achievement; perhaps 'kiss' or 'smile' is the wrong response. In the script1.txt file, there is a follow-up sentence which says 'there's nothing wrong as long as there's consent' so this may also be required.
