on your first playthrough, the beast actually never comes out of its holes until you've inserted the replacement valve and lifted the emergency lockdown, so use that danger free time to make as much noise as you'd like blowing up some doors and opening that fucker blanchet's room and running around with the lights off
Nades can be used to break padlocks, not just bullets.
Time travel / tactical save scumming is a super useful way to get into rooms to learn locker codes, getting the code for the Armory from the Soldier Quarters will require 1/1+ fuel and something to break the padlock for the switch in the Utility room. It's pretty much needless to be here unless there's great items that spawn in there for that run. Remember the code, load a save.
In the Armory, just before the code-locked door looking through the bars, you can see a wooden door and (sometimes?) rats on a corpse, you can actually throw a nade through the bars to destroy both at once (rats and supply closet door). If you do, it's super helpful as the Beast will agro that spot early on while you make your way towards it with now uncontested space. It will destroy heaps of stuff in it's rage too making your navigation easier. This is the best nade spot in the game I've found so far, it's so good.
You can just jump down the ladder from the Pillbox in Maintenance, you don't take damage.
You can drag big bricks across zones, from Prison all the way to the Officer Quarters was one I've done. Takes a bit though.
Wine Cellar is where real ones go to die.
