Your cheating way to 800 IQ and DosBox compatibility
By Aquilius
For all those who can't beat all enemies in a fight and can't complete a fly through. Also useful to finally make it run in DosBox.

Your cheating way to 800IQ
First of all, this way requires 3rd party software and the original game files. Some may have noticed, that the debugging doesn't work with the steam version and that the indy256.exe doesn't work in DosBox. However there is a tricky way around it. Most important you need the original game files for the VGA version. If you have the original floppies or copies, you will actually need a floppy drive. If the floppies or drives aren't available, you can find valid disc images on archive.org. There are the images for a VGA version originated from 5,25" discs.
IMPORTANT! The executable from the image has to be the english INDY256.exe. Other versions and languages probably won't work.
Once you have the original files, you will need to find an app to mount these. I have used IMDisk for that, easy and works fine. After mounting the discs rename the game folder to something like "INDY3_org". Then create a new folder named "INDY3". Into that folder you will copy all files from the discs. Now the game can be run via Steam and DosBox. With DosBox you can finally use the debugger by doing the following:
- type whipitgood and press enter
- press F
- press Shift+S

If you want to continue from your previous points you will need to copy the file savegame.___ from the orignal folder to the newly created one or let the cloud syncro do that automatically.
NOTE!: all your previous savegames will become unusable because the reference file savegame.___ will be overwritten while playing in DosBox and afterwards the game won't recognize the old savegames anymore. Also the Steam savegames are stored in another folder than the DosBox savegames. This messes with the save routines from the Steam and the original version as the original version saves the files directly in the game folder, Steam saves can be found in AppData and only the file savegame.___ is stored in the game folder. Steam can't use the savegames from DosBox and vice versa.
Hence it will be wise to do the cheatings before you will play the game "normally".

To get all the IQ points from the most difficult tasks start the game via DosBox and activate the debugging.
Once a fight starts press Shift+S, type 212 for the variable and then set your punching to a maximum of 32000, 140 is default and your punching power is resetted to this everytime a new fight starts. So you have to do this for every single fight. Have fun ravaging your way through Castle Brunwald.
For the plane flight you can reset your damage to 0 with the debug variable 163. Just do that everytime you shoot down another plane or taking some damage, For maximum points you need to complete a fly through. Also save your game before taking the biplane at the airport, don't take the zeppelin as you will never encounter the first control post. To get there let yourself be shot down by the first enemy, if you shoot down just one, reload as shooting down just one will get you past the first control post. After completing both the flight and the car route reload again, take the Zeppelin and cheat beat the operator. Now you have done all the diffcult parts in that game and might reset everything to the original Steam status.

Save the game once more to ensure the savegame.___ is certainly saved with your score. Exit the game and start again via Steam. After clicking on Load you will see your new overall score from playing in DosBox. Save the game and exit. Now copy savegame.___ to INDY3_org. Then delete or rename the folder INDY3 and rename INDY3_org back to INDY3. Unfortunately I have not found a way to make your old savegames usable again, so you can delete those from the AppData folders and start over new, but never delete savegame.___ in the game folder as this contains your IQ progress.

Start via Steam again et voila your points from DosBox are still there.
