Part One: Finding and Locating your route
Now you have selected the place you have started in, use this website[bustimes.org]; and find the same place you are at ingame.

For this demo i am in exeter in the sunny south coast of england.

Tips:
the route HAS to:
  • 1.be in the square you started in.
  • 2.the routes full length fits in the square you started in.

the route Optimally Should be:
  • Not too frequent you wont have enough buses to run it.
  • Not too infrequent it wont make enough money.
note that most of these tips only apply to early game

For this demo i have chosen route "T" Which runs from exeter to woodbury in the country.

Part Two: Doing the route
Now on bustimes,click the map button to see your route;

From here its pretty easy to just copy your route down from the map

OR for extra assistance you can locate a vehicle and use the map it has which gives you a detailed view of the route one trip takes you can see this either by:
  • the vehicles tab on the bottom of the route page and clicking "map" on a trip on the direction you want seen here:

  • or by clicking the "number to place" on the information preview which appears when you click a vehicle icon on the map seen here:

Then now you can recreate your route from its start point to terminus and loop back the route on itself from terminus back to the start, take a note of the name of the terminus stop you will need it ;),

How to identify a terminus? you can identify one because on the schedule its where a trip ends or for a vehicle its last stop, if the route doesnt seem to have a terminus and just loops back on itself with no clear terminus you most likely have a circular route or a loop line where you should just run a straight loop instead.

in the late game with long distance routes you will have timing point stops, if you see any, take a note of these, ill touch on them more in step 3. (see step 3,point 7 to see how to identify these)

Part Three: (Advanced) Scheduling/Timetabling
Now here is the fun part; Scheduling,this is the longest part so get a drink,
for this part of the tutorial i will be using the route "2" from exeter to newton abbot as its frequent.

Steps:
  • 1: Open "advanced settings" on the timetabling menu

  • 2: On Bustimes go back to the schedule tab of your route, identify which days it runs and from what time does it start running and when does it finish running from both the start point and terminus, and also take note of the frequency of the route during:
    • Mornings: 4am-6am
    • Peaktime: 6am-7pm
    • Evenings: 7pm-9pm
    • Nights: 9pm-Midnight
    • Overnight:Midnight-4am (if applicable)
    On Weekdays,Saturday and Sunday

    Or you can manually input each departure time in "custom times" or if you are lazy like me just run peaktime all day.

  • 3: Now you have this information go back to CBM and find your terminus stop in the stop list and click modify bus stops,uncheck every single stop after your terminus stop,this is your outbound journey you can name this journey after the destination.

  • 4: Now make a new timetable,and repeat the process but instead unchecking every stop before your terminus to form your return journey.

  • 5:For each one select the days it will run as applicable, if you want to follow the irl weekend timetable you will have to repeat step 3 and 4 twice for saturday and sunday.

  • 6:Now select a starting time for the outbound journey, for this example this will be 6:46 since this is the first journey leaving exeter where im based. and then select a final journey time which for this will be 23:46,

    but wait, bustimes says the last 2 journey is at 23:40, you will have to make small changes like this if you are doing interval scheduling so it will run as close as possible to the actual end time while fitting into your interval as it would instead have the last journey at 23:16 on a 30 min interval, because remember not everything can be 100% accurate.

  • 7:Timing points (if you are doing a short route skip this) If your route has timing points they show up like this below with a the arrival time and departure time of the timing point which you can see here it arrives at "Dawlish the green at 7:30 and leaves at 7:33 meaning it spends 3 mins at the timing point so at that stop ingame make the departure time at that stop 3 mins later.

  • 8:Now is the return journey,Find your first journey on "timetable preview" ingame and see what time it arrives at the terminus which for this is 7:09am, now go back to bustimes and look up the time the same journey arrives at the terminus,then on the other timetable, find the time a journey leaves the terminus next after that time which is 7:32 for this example, since irl the journey arrived at 7:20 this means it spent 12 mins waiting at the terminus so ingame i will have to make the return journey depart 12 mins after it arrives. so for the journey that arrives at 7:09am it will return back at 7:21am since this is the first journey this is the time the return journey timetable will start and then do the same for the last journey so find when that ends.

  • 9: You've made it!, your all set now

    Photo examples:
    Outbound Journey;
    Return Journey;

Part Four: Footnotes
This is mostly extra information i wanted to add in so skip this if you want

  • You can use any vehicle you want on your routes but i do recommend trying to use similar vehicles on routes as they do irl such as a single deck on a single deck route etc, also for realism as some routes have low bridges and you don't want to be like diamond bus.

  • Also this game does not know how long your route should take irl it could run later than normal or earlier than normal so if it does make sure to account for it.

  • and if you want to use a irl depot location you can find them using company websites or with some companies you can see large bunch of vehicles in one seemingly random location on bustimes, these are most likely also depots. seen below

This is my first ever guide for any game so any constructive is welcome and also i will try to answer any questions you may have so thanks for reading :)
