Description
"No matter how much civilization advances, in the end it’s instinct and strength that matters most." - Louis

Short Background / Summary
From the Beastars Wiki:
Louis was the head actor of the Cherryton Academy drama club and was the candidate for the title of Beastar. He also served as the boss of the Shishigumi for a time. Louis appears to be arrogant and self-righteous, but underneath him lies his insecurity about being physically weak.

Gameplay
In Rivals, Louis has good range on his normals. His game plan is centered around obtaining his adoration meter to full. He operates at a brawler range but lacks strong set play tools.

Gimmicks
Adoration
This is a small meter shown in the bottom right that tracks how much the crowd loves him. For every 2 stacks of adoration, his attacks get 1 frame of start up and endlag reduced, so at max stacks (6) he will get 3 frames faster for start up and endlag on all of his attacks. At max stacks, he will start to glow in the limelight and will have access to a powerful showstopper that consumes his stacks in return for a powerful option.
Doing these will increase stacks:
- Hitting opponents
- Standing in the spotlight
- Rehearsing Moves for later

He will lose stacks
- Being hit (1 stack per hit)
- Using the Dspec show stopper (all stacks)
- On death (all stacks)

Rehearsal
Louis is no stranger to practice. He can "rehearse" a move by inputting parry on the move's start up, which will then cancel that move and store it. This increases his adoration stacks and can be used as part of Fspecial. The aerial and ground versions have different memories, so he can have two sets of moves rehearsed, up to 3. Certain moves, like Jab, Ftilt, Dtilt, continue on to the second part of their move, meaning you can rehearse while still keeping the pressure or advantage on. The show does not slow down for anybody. You will see a white flash and a text logo to indicate that you successfully rehearsed it.

These moves can be rehearsed
- Jab 1
- Jab 3
- Ftilt 1
- Ftilt 2
- Dtilt 1
- Dtilt 2
- Dattack
- Fstrong
- Nair
- Fair
- Bair (will go forward during Fspec)
- Nspecial (Must input parry while shooting)
- Dspecial 2 (Combust)
- Taunt

Specials
Neutral Special - Handgun
- Louis will draw his hand gun and load it with rounds.
- Functions very similarly to Ranno Nspecial
- Holding Special will load more rounds into it.
- Letting go of special will fire it.
- Hitting parry will allow you to cancel it or roll.
- This move can be rehearsed if parry is inputted just before firing.
- If rehearsed, it will use the stored ammo, so make sure you have ammo stored before using it.

Forward Special - Follow the script
- This move is normally a two swing slash that carries momentum forward.
- This will play back the last 3 rehearsed moves in reverse order.
- It has a different memory for aerial versus ground attacks, so you can store for both.
- You can get really creative with this.
- See Above for the moves you can rehearse

Down Special - Spotlight
- When not at max adoration stacks, this move will spawn a spot light.
- Staying in the light will passively increase your adoration stacks.
- The spotlight can be hit by the opponent to get rid of it.
- The cooldown on it is long, so having it removed could stop you from accessing your adoration.

Down Special Enhanced- Showstopper
- When at max stacks of adoration, Dspec will become a powerful Forsburn Combust like move.
- It has similar frame data to Forsburn's enhanced combust but is a bit weaker and has a more forgiving angle flipper.
- Using it will remove all of your adoration stacks.

Up special - Scabbard
- Functions similarly to Mii sword fighter Uspecial Sword Scabbard.
- Input once for the rising motion
- Input special again before going into pratfall to do a dropping attack.
- Has a medium powered shockwave on landing that can kill on bad DI.

Awesome. If you do rewrite it, keep me updated

@The Goat, It is likely due to the way I wrote the code for the spotlight. It is unoptimized. I wrote it quickly because he was made for the anime jam within a month but I will need to see if I can rewrite it in a way that affects performance less.

The spotlight move lags my game a lot. Any way I could fix that?

Hello! I am sorry for the late response on this, I was out on holiday for the weekend. Thanks for the kind words!

@Zen Dragon - This could be an idea. As this gimmick was for a jam and highly experimental, I wasn't sure where it's power lies. I didn't get a lot of time to play test him due to the Jam timing, so I picked a more conservative route for the balancing of it, but I will get more play testing in and see how it feels.

@Swamp Ass - The spriter of this character, Amberlearner, picked Louis, I would have personally made Juno, but that's the magic of Beastars, all of the characters are really good. The voices them selves are taken from the anime, as there was a score in the contest for adaption and having his actual voice lines helps with that.

I love Louis but if you saw the anime, making Legoshi instead would have made more sense but its fun to see Louis as a fighting character. I do wanna know who did the voices for Louis so I can ask them for help, I love the taunts but the credits doesn't say who did them

very cool, wouldn't mind another Beastars character like this
Zen Dragon 30 Jun, 2023 @ 6:02pm
The gimmick is really fun, the fact it makes him float in the air is super strong but fun, but one thing that might need fine tuning is the ground version of the side B as everything that would generally combo within the rehearsed Side B you can just combo normally. Perhaps make it so each rehearsed attack cancels into the next if it hits?
