Campaign Weather Overhaul (includes The Old World Map)

Description
Mod is fully compatible with Immortal Empires Expanded, and The Old World map, but place mine first in the load order!

*Screenshots are outdated, will upload new one soon*

INTRODUCTION
This mod is a complete overhaul of campaign map lighting and weather. I have created and added more than 170 new environments, with more than 60 new weather effects for both Immortal Empires and Immortal Empires Expanded map. This mod puts visuals and immersion over gameplay, so some areas might not be visually optimal for everyone.

I highly recommend using Improved Campaign Camera mod.

THE OLD WORLD

The Empire
Foggier and gloomier than vanilla (especially Middenland and the Drakwald). Most of the Empire is under light rain. The southern areas are sunny and bright. The eastern and far nothern areas have some light snowfall and a colder feel. The Middle Mountains have stronger snowfall. Grey and Black Mountains are under moderate snowfall.

Sylvania
Gloomy, spooky, foggy, dark and full of bats!

Bretonnia
The plains of Carcassonne and River Brionne are sunny. The northern Marches are rainy. Forests of Arden and Chalon have a verdant feel and slight leaf fall. Mousillon is dark, gloomy and rainy. The Coast of Lyonesse is sunny but misty.

Athel Loren
Magical, verdant forest with perpetual and abundant leaf fall and magical spores.

Southern Realms
The Border Princes are generally cloudy, the west has slight rainfall. In Tilea is bright and sunny, Estalia too but it has a more arid feel. Sartosa has thicker fog and has moderate rain. The frigid peaks of the Vaults are ravaged by violent gusts of snow.

Skavenblight
The Blighted Marshes are dark, putrid and big-ridden, with intermittent heavy rainfall.

Kislev
Kislev is covered by perpetual snowfall. In the south, snowfall is mild. Central areas are under abundant but gentle snowfall. Troll Country is ravaged by violent gusts. The Eastern Oblast is under a more violent snow storm.

Norsca
An inhospitable, violent, frozen wasteland, entirely ravaged by a violent blizzard.

Albion
Heavy perpetual rainfall, fog and some magical spores.

World's Edge Mountains
The north is under intense snowfall. South, near Karaz-a-Karak, snowfall is milder. In the Badlands area, they have a more arid and/or vulcanic feel.

The Badlands
Scorching bright. The Marshes of Madness are swamps, with fog and plenty of bugs flying around.

THE NEW WORLD

Nehekhara
Dry and arid. The area surrounding the Black Pyramid and the Tower of Arkhan is haunted by ghosts. Eastern Nehekhara is gloomier.

Araby
Bright, scorching desert.

Southlands Jungles
Steaming jungles. Some areas are under a heavy tropical storm. Zlatlan, the Hidden City, is hidden by moderate fog. The Cape is misty and with light rain.

Lustria
The Isthmus is brighter and with light rain. Vampire Coast is foggy, with intermittent rains, bats and bugs. Volcanic Isles are vulcanic. Xlanhuapec is covered by a thick mist. The "Amazon" area is under heavy tropical rainfall. The north-west, between the Isthmus and Tlaxtlan, has a swampy, fetid, and bug-ridden feel. Coastal deserts are dry and bright. Culchain Plains are sunny. Turtle isles are foggy and rainless. The Cape is misty and with light rain.

Ulthuan
Nagarythe is dark and barren. Eataine, Tiranoc and Ellyrion are peaceful paradises. Avelorn and Chrace are sunny and verdant. Vauls Anvil is vulcanic. Saphery is sunny and with magical embers. Cothique is misty and with light rain. Yvresse is shrouded by a thick mist with poor visibility.

Naggaroth
Titan Peaks are vulcanic. The coastal and central areas are gloomy feel and under moderate/heavy rainfall. Obsidian peaks are ashy and vulcanic, Iron Mountains are cold and with ligth snowfall. The western deserts are scorching and bright. The northern tundra is blinding and under heavy snowstorms and blizzards.

THE EAST

Darklands
Hellish feel. North and centre have ember sparks and ash rising. The south is less hellish and with ashfall. The Mouth of River ruin is putrid.

Nagashizzar
Dark, rainy, foggy, with ghostly spirits and bats.

Dragon Isles
Primal and savage, under a violent tropical monsoon.

Mountains of Mourn
The south has slight snowfall. Central Mourn have heavier snowfall and violent gusts of snowstorm. Firemouth is vulcanic. The Great Maw has a putrid feel. The north and the peaks of Ancient Giant Lands have a glacial, ice-age feel and under a perpetual blizzard. Down south, the Haunted forest and Gnoblar country are gloomy.

Cathay
Warpstone desert is a corrupted wasteland. Gunpowder Road is dull and ashy. Weijin is bright and magical. The Celestial Riverlands are a peaceful paradise. Eastern coast is misty and under moderate rainfall. The Forest of the Moon has a nightly, Yin, lunar feel. The Broken Lands of Tian Li are a frigid plateau with slight snowfall. The Mountains of Heaven have a cold feel and abundant, gentle snowfall. The southern jungles are steaming and rainy.

"Korea"/Ihan (in IEE)
The south is rainy and misty. The north, towards the Wastes, has both rain and ashfall.

Eastern Colonies
Misty but sunny and tropical. Tor Elasor has intermittent rainfall.

Ind
Lush, verdant and sunny.

Kuresh
Darker, fetid and inhospitable. The northern mountains are under a heavy tropical monsoon. All the coast is foggy and with slight rainfall. Inland is rainless, but steaming, fetid and bug-ridden.

Gates of Calith
The remote canal is under a perpetual, extremely violent monsoon.

Nippon (IEE)
The north is foggy and rainy. The south is bright, verdant and sunny.

Lost Isles of Elithis (IEE)
Remote islands shrouded by mists.

OCEANS

Galleons Graveyard
Under a violent, windy, oceanic storm.

General
Areas of the Great Ocean, Far Sea, and Sea of Dread have varying degrees of mist and rain.

N. CHAOS WASTES

Khorne Themed
Blood Marshes, Bloodfire Falls and Blood Mountain all have very Khorne themed environments with a redder tint, embers, ash, blood rain and some snow (depending on the region)

Tzeentch Themed
Plain of Illusions and the area around the Silvered Tower of Sorcerers have a bluer tint, slight snowfall and magical embers floating about.

Nurgle Themed
Kdatha and Noisome Tumor have a putrid feel, with a greener tint, toxic spores and flies. The former also has maggots crawling on the ground.

Arctic Themed
Eternal Lagoon and the Cold Mire have generic arctic feel and are ravaged by a violent blizzard. The latter has a slight purple tint due to the presence of the Palace of Princes.

S. CHAOS WASTES

Icefire Plains
As the name suggests, a hellish land ravaged by both fire embers and ashes as well as snow.

Southern Wastes, Abyssal Glacier & Daemonium Hills
Chaotic and arctic feel, with both ash fall and violent gusts of snowstorm.

COMPATIBILITY
Compatible with everything that doesn't affect the campaign weather files. Fully compatible with all the Forestry mods

Ultimate Lighting 2.0: it's fully compatible as long as you place my mod before his in the load order (put mine above). This way, both work properly!

SPECIAL THANKS
To CA for creating this massive game.
To Frodo45127 for creating Rusted PackFile Manager.
To Mazisky for his initial tips and for his visual mods that gave me the idea to start exploring the game files myself and discover all their weathery potential.

You are making this game even more beautiful, well done!

Would you ever consider updating the weather in realms of chaos? I actually like the map more for some campaigns
DeadRanger 11 Jul @ 8:11am
ohhhh you know about 400 haha. its tough to narrow down. i tried the usual suspects, basically anything related to campaign. but no luck. all good small thing!

probably not in the scope of the mod but would be really cool if weather was more on a loop so in the mountains it wasnt always snowing but cleared up for some time or in reikland it was sunny and rainy 50/50

@zecrayz I used to test it back when i was first working on the mod and i actually didnt really find any obvious difference fps-wise on my end. I thought it would have been a lot more impactful, but on my end i actually don't notice a difference, and if there is it's absolutely negligible. Your rig might also have an effect though. I'm using a good ol 2080 and i can't see any impactful difference in fps compared to vanilla. However, i'm sure it has to have a hit like you say, for the simple reason that there's a lot more vfx. I guess CA optimized the campaign map quite a lot in game 3 though.

@DeadRanger 100% it's an issue that was reported in the past by other users and confirmed to be caused by a conflict with another specific mod. I can't remember which one though. How many mods do you have?
John Matrix  [author] 9 Jul @ 7:06am
@Jack Greedy Hey thanks for the kind words my man! Will be here tweaking and updating my mods for as long as i can :)

@'Nsu I actually don't know as i don't use that mod. I checked what it does and to be honest is doesn't seem like something that would have any conflict with mine. However, for the CTD's i really don't know. I've never had anything like you describe myself, but i've never had any body else report a similar issue. I really don't think it's my mod though, as what it does and the files it changes really are not ones that i can imagine causing a CTD. Weird for sure!

anyone else suffer sideways rain over reikland? cant seem to narrow down a conflict.
zecrayz 8 Jul @ 7:21pm
Hi John,

Do you have an estimate for the level of performance hit this mod causes? I assume there is more to process in the campaign map, and that performance will suffer, but I'm curious if you have any idea by how much

Compatible with Climate Adaption mod??

(I love your mod, it makes the world so much more alive! However, for many years, I have experienced CTD's using your mod - typically deep into a game, about after round 30, the game will just suddenly CTD, when taking any action on the campaign map. Save works again once deactivating Campaign Weather Overhaul. I use 107 other mods, but none that should cause a conflict, other than maybe Climate Adaption mod)
