Introduction
If you've ever wondered which
  • factory would make you the most profit
  • how many workers you need to run a factory chain
  • how many trucks you need to move all ressources arround
then this guide is for you.
Download below spreadsheet to calculate the relevant data for all factories which also takes into account the production of preliminary products. You can reflect your whole production chain by setting resources as imported or self produced.

You have to download the guide as Excel [docs.google.com] or Google Calc[docs.google.com] to be able to modify the cost mode settings.

This screenshot below is just an example.
Usage
Open the spread sheet and select the "cost mode" setting in column E
  • import means you are importing this resource.
  • <Factory> means you are producing the resource yourself with this factory.
  • Auto means the cost mode that is selected in the "Cost Mode Table" (on a separate sheet) is used. This is helpfull to change the cost mode for a resouce in all factories at once.

You will start with all resources set to Auto, which resolves to import with the default CostModeTable
As your industry grows and you produce resources yourself, you will change the cost mode to self.

This will have significant effect on the profitability of your factories.
You can reflect your very industry setup in the spread sheet to evaluate where you could make the best profit.
Profit when importing all ressources

Profit when self producing all ressources
Profit for this factory
Calculates the profit for this one factory, ignoring pre-product factories.
In the example above you can see the profit of a clothing factory changes from 605 ₽ to 683 ₽ when the ressources are self produced.
It gives you the additional profit you make by running this factory instead of exporting the pre-products.

Calculation details:
Costs: For the costs of the factory either the import costs of the resources (for cost mode = import) or the lost export revenue (for cost mode = <Factory>) are used.

Workers required: Only the workers needed for this factory are taken into account.
Profit for production chain
Calculates the profit for the whole production chain. I.e. for this factory and all factories of the preliminary products. It is assumed that the pre-product factories run at exact the level that is needed to fully supply this factory.
You can imagine this as if the production of the preliminary products was an integral part of this factory.
In the example above you can see that you would need
  • 145.8 workers to run the whole production chain consisting of
  • one clothing factory
  • 2.4 fabric factories to supply the clothing factory on full load
and that the whole production chain would give you 1366 Rubel of profit.
In other words, it gives you the total profit you make by running this and all pre-products factories. (Of course you must not fool yourself by calculating the profit of the pre-factories a second time)

Calculation details
Costs: For the costs of the factory either the import costs of the resources (for cost mode = import) or the self-production costs (for cost mode = <Factory>) are used.

Workers required: The workers required for this factory and all workers for the production of the preliminary products are taken into account.

Other Information
There is plenty other information in the sheet, which you might find usefull.

Import / Export prices are taken from game start at 1960, with version 0.8.9.12 and may divert in future versions.

If you find any error or would like to suggest some improvement, please reach out to me in the comments section.

I hope this is usefull for you and your gameplay.
Say thank you with a 5* rating :-)

Very cool spreadsheet :)
Even if it's not 100% accurate, it would be cool to have a future projection based on 70s' prices / 80' prices.

In fact, I have the feeling that (for eg) steel price in 70s' cost the double than 60s'. Maybe it's totally random depends on each game.

Thanks guys for that spreasheet

Don't forget the productivity and cost of workers.
