How to get the drop pod way closer to you!
By Insanity
In this guide, I will show you how to get the drop pod basically near you when you finish, I will demonstrate with the escort (heartstone) mission, no more panic running to the spawn. This has,so far, worked on two types of missions, this may work on all missions yet I have not tried them all out, this is less effective on missions like collecting aquarq or liquid morkite as there are no new areas to discover, rather one huge area.

Before starting the mission
You must have an engineer, this is because he has the platform gun.
Step one
After doretta finishes drilling to the heartstone, make sure to call supply drops as usual, however, notify your teammates about what you are going to do, as it is crucial to follow each step to ensure you get the best results. (Note that in any other mission type you just need to find that equivalent of dotties drill hole) *eg. morkite mission, you have to close the way back to the spawn, and any other holes that leads to new areas*

Step two
Cover the hole that doretta made with the platform gun, it's not necessary to be 100% with it, but it's better to be sure.

Note: You could do this BEFORE starting the dozer, in the time that others mine/explore the area
Step three
Before you leave, DO NOT REMOVE THE PLATFORMS, keep it as it is and call for the drop pod.
Step four
Wait for the drop pod to show up, most of the time it will be really close to you, this time I was really lucky.
Step five
Enjoy carrying dottie headache and risk free.
Thank you for taking the time to read this
This was made possible by the wonderful teammates who trusted me and the beautiful community of this game, rock and stone miners! I don't guarantee it will always work, but it did for me, thank you again.

Here are some of the lovely people who helped me finish this wonderful experiment:

afaik its still posible for the pod to land in the heartstone chamber - simply run ~150m towards spawn and have one other dwarf press the button on the mule. idk if this works in solo but in multi its viable enough w/ rj250 engineer or scout

Sadly, after the most recent patch this no longer works.

now that trick I use is gonna be so much more fun if the pod lands next to me every time :)

@Zim interestingly, the drop pod does not deal damage when it lands on top of you. I use that to get into the pod faster if I can get to it's location before it lands as I jump right before it lands to instantly appear inside the pod.

I think this is the only thing that doesn't deal collision damage upon landing, which makes sense as it would be a fucking pain to fail a mission because your way out landed on top of your head and killed you (along with the fact that teammates cannot reach you below the drop pod considering its size)

On solo I've learned to not call when there is a supply pod hole intersecting a tunnel above me, molly thinks it's a shortcut. Ruined some otherwise good runs

I actually just stood on the mule and let it take me to the drop ship {solo haz 4} as long as you run ahead of him and jump on him he will take you the whole way to it, but its the run out of ammo/hp just outside its door {cause it doesn't open till mule goes around the back so you hop off at front and have to wait like a min or 2} that's a lil harder
