Basic Things to Know
The Vinki has a Remix Config menu. Head into the Remix menu and select The Vinki to look at these important settings! There are also custom controls for The Vinki within the Input Settings. If you don't like the default bindings, you can change them!
WARNING: Setting controls to gamepad stick buttons has been known to cause issues!
    Controls to know:
  • Grind <LShift on keyboard and X on controller by default>
  • Toggle Grind (alternate control for grinding) <Unbound by default>
  • Graffiti Mode (held to use the below controls) <Up on keyboard and LB on controller by default>
  • Spray Graffiti <C on keyboard and Y on controller by default>
  • Craft Spray Can <LShift on keyboard and X on controller by default>
  • Tag Creature <C on keyboard and Y on controller by default>
Defaults for people that don't have Improved Input Config (you should get Improved Input Config):
  • Grind: Pickup
  • Toggle Grind: Not set
  • Spray Graffiti / Tag: Special
  • Craft Spray Can: Up + Pickup
Shmovement
Hold Grind to land on horizontal beams with your Soap shoes and grind on them. Jumping when going fast enough allows you to do a trick jump!

You can also grind vertical beams. Holding jump when you get to the top will result in a trick jump as well.
Advanced Schmovement
Vinki normally has the same spear-throwing capabilities as Monk, but if you throw one while grinding, flipping, rolling, or sliding, he'll throw with the same force as Survivor!

Trick jumping just after falling from a horizontal beam grind (coyote jumping) will give you both a horizontal and vertical boost!

You can also coyote jump right after hitting the ground from falling off a grind!

You can hold down to fall through the beam you're on, then let go to land on a lower beam!

Trick jumping works just like backflipping - you can throw up or down when trick jumping!
Graffiti and Spray Cans
When holding Graffiti Mode + Craft Spray Can, you can craft Spray Cans by combing a rock with a colorful item (using the same inputs as Gourmand's crafting works by default). Different rarities of colorful items will produce Spray Cans of different charges, from 1 to 3.

You can also replenish Spray Cans by combining one with another colorful item or another Spray Can! Keep in mind that you cannot have more charges than 3 in a can.

With a Spray Can in hand, press Graffiti Mode + Spray Graffiti to - you guessed it - spray a graffiti on the background! This will use one of the Spray Can's charges. If you really don't like having to craft cans to spray graffiti, you can disable the requirement in the Remix Config.

Throw a Spray Can to create a non-lethal, artistic explosion! The more charges a Spray Can has, the more powerful the blast!

With a Spray Can in hand close enough to a creature, press Graffiti Mode + Tag Creature to - you guessed it again - tag a creature with graffiti! It does some immediate damage, and some poison damage over time! Lizards and other slugcats will even have their colors changed (and it won't damage Jolly Coop players, unless you change the setting in the remix menu). Keep in mind that not all creatures are taggable.
Custom Art for In-Game Graffiti
When you first start Rain World with The Vinki mod enabled, a new folder will appear in Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/312520/3001275271/decals called VinkiGraffiti. There, you can upload pngs of graffitis you want to see to a specific slugcat's folder (such as "vinki"), and remove the ones you don't! Make sure to only edit your graffiti folder while the game is not running.
Important: Make sure that your image files don't contain any dots in the name! (Besides the one before the file extension)
Also, make sure that your image isn't too big! An image with it's longest side being 200 px should usually be plenty.

If you need to access Rain World's files, you can right-click the game in your Steam Library, then go to Manage > Browse Local Files
Add Custom Graffiti to Your Own Mod
Assuming you read the section above, you can actually just make a "VinkiGraffiti" folder in your mod within a "decals" folder. In there, create a folder named with a slugcat's id (it can either be an existing slugcat or your own). Then you can place your graffiti in there!
Custom Slugcat Selection Screen Graffiti
This is a bit more involved, so prepare thyself.
  1. Navigate to the mod's folder. It should be under Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\312520\3001275271

  2. Go into scenes/slugcat - vinki

  3. Optional: You can open Flat.png in a photo-editing program, then size your graffiti to fit on the wall. Save just that graffiti as a png with all of the extra whitespace and you'll get to skip adjusting it (in a much more painful way) later.

  4. Put your new graffiti there and rename it to Graffiti - X where X is one number higher than the highest already in the folder

  5. Almost done! Now go back to the mod folder and go into slugbase\scenes. Then open slugcat_vinki.json

  6. Copy & paste one of the blocks for the graffiti images. Then, rename the pasted block to match your new graffiti. If you resized your image earlier, then you don't have to worry about changing the other parameters!

  7. You're done, congrats! Now you should see your graffiti eventually in Vinki's slugcat selection screen. Note that you should back your files up somewhere in case a future update messes with them. Also, you pretty much just modded Rain World, so give yourself a pat on the back!
Adding Custom Graffiti Unlockables to Your Mod
You can add your own Graffiti Tokens (the pink/purple ones that unlock a new graffiti to spray) to your region mod or mod in general!

  1. In your mod folder, go to decals (create that folder if it isn't there) and put your graffiti image there. Name it so it doesn't contain " - " in it. That is how the mod will tell the difference between custom unlockables and "vanilla" ones.

  2. In the room you want to add a Graffiti Token to, create a GoldToken using DevTools. Press O, H, click the Object page, and scroll to the Tutorial tab of the object menu. Position it where you want it to be, then hit Save.

  3. Go to Rain World/RainWorld_Data/StreamingAssets to find where the room's settings saved to. What I do is search for the room name (which you can see with DevTools) + "_settings", and open the one that was edited most recently.

  4. Find where the last GoldToken is on the PlacedObjects list and copy that mofo.

  5. From your mod directory, go to modify/world/[region acronym]-rooms (create these folders if they aren't already there) and create a text file with the name of the room you want + "_settings". Open it to edit it.

  6. Here comes the confusing part. Write "[MERGE]" in the first line. Write "PlacedObjects: " in the second line and paste the GoldToken thing with the comma at the end. Write "[ENDMERGE]" for the last line.
  7. There should be a chain of three tildes (~~~). After the first tilde in that chain, write the name of the graffiti you want to unlock. Then, after the last zero, write "~vinki".

  8. Enable your mod and the token should show!
Adding Custom Objective Graffiti to Your Mod
Objective/Story Graffiti shows as sunglasses-shaped holograms that you can spray unique graffiti on. You can see a couple of examples in the intro for the mod's campaign! Now you can make custom ones for your mod!

  1. In your mod folder, go to decals (create that folder if it isn't there) and put your graffiti image there. Name it whatever, but remember it for later. Also, keep in mind that the size of the image will affect how big it is in-game.
    (Image is outdated)

  2. Go to your mod folder and go to/create your modify folder. Create a txt file named "VinkiObjectives" and open it.

  3. Oh yeah, it's modifying time! I'm too lazy to type out and explain what all this pseudo-JSON stuff does, so format your text like this image. "name" is your graffiti's name, "room" is the room name it'll be in, and "position" is the XY-coordinates it'll be at within the room (you might have to do some trial-and-error to find where the best position is).

  4. Enable your mod, and you should see the hologram in the room as Vinki!
