Introduction

A major issue in modding Darkest Dungeon is the vanilla game's implementation of trinkets. All vanilla trinkets are grouped into a single file, and changing one trinket necessitates changing all of them, which is a compatibility nightmare. Furthermore, vanilla trinkets themselves have long been scrutinised and dissected for a variety of shortcomings—an overwhelming amount of 'garbage' (very common) trinkets, lack of a unified trinket cap which causes lootpool/inventory bloat, and a dominant strategy which arises in the overwhelming necessity for accuracy boosting trinkets. This both limits player choice and is problematic for modding, as every hero mod adds more trinkets and in turn, more bloat.

Trinkets+ is a complete and comprehensive rework which has arisen to solve these issues. This mod works regardless of installed DLC, and can be installed and uninstalled safely. It obeys the file formatting of Void's Trinket Seperator, and as such can be patched to be compatible with other trinket reworks that only alter the trinkets of one hero. The full list of changes that this mod introduces are:

  • Buffs/Nerfs/Reworks of over 90% of vanilla/DLC trinkets, aimed at encouraging trinket diversity and allowing new playstyles.
  • An enforced limit of 1 on most* trinkets. Once you obtain a focus ring, you cannot obtain another unless you sell it. This will not cause issues if you had multiple copies of a trinket before installing the mod.
  • Apprentice bosses now drop Rare trinkets instead of Very Rare, making Very Rare trinkets a legitimately valuable resource that cannot be obtained early in the game.
  • Very Common trinkets are now properly listed as Very Common.
  • Several new universal trinkets have been added.
  • *Among the universal trinkets added are a special class of "treasure" type trinkets. These trinkets have an increased limit so you can obtain duplicates of them (the limit is listed in game) and sell for much more gold than usual. These are made such that even if you have every single trinket in the game (which are limit 1 so you cannot get them again), you still get a trinket reward from quests in the form of extra cash.

A design document of all changes is not available for this mod. If you wish to examine every change, launching the game with the -alltrinkets command and creating a test save is highly recommended.

Given its nature as a trinket rework, this mod requires very high load priority (potentially the highest), except in cases where another trinket mod has specifically been patched to be compatible with this one. This mod does NOT require Void's Trinket Seperator, as it already implements what that mod does. In addition, this mod alters the quest.plot_quests.json, and colour_of_madness.loot files and will overwrite changes to those files from other mods.

A couple of bugs.
The Blood curse warding charm has no price.
The Ancestors vintage does not have a trinket limit 1

This turned a heap of useless junk into something you would actually want to equip. Thank you for this mod!

This seems amazing but idk about the whole one of each trinket thing
It encourages build variety by using different accuracy trinkets so its not 4 focus rings always, but also having that as an option for very rares would be nice.
Definitely will play with this!

it can be sold for the price of a standard trinket of that rarity

What specifically does Beneficent Banknote do? It's only description is that it cannot be equipped and you can have max 3 of them.

If it's possible you should remove the trinkets that only exist to be sold from the Nomad Wagon. No point in ever buying them

I agree with previous comment xd

First of all, thank you for your fantastic work on the Trinket rework mod. Your changes have made the game much more engaging and tactical — I really appreciate how each trinket now feels more meaningful.

That said, I’d like to give some feedback about the “one-of-a-kind” restriction placed on most trinkets. Due to the game’s limited inventory and party management system, switching between teams often becomes very tedious. I have to remove trinkets from the previous party and manually reassign them to the new one, repeating this process for four characters every time.

If it were possible to add an option to disable the "unique trinket" limitation, that would help a lot. It would allow me to leave key trinkets equipped on my favorite heroes, so I wouldn’t need to constantly shuffle them around — effectively reducing the number of repetitive steps required when managing teams.
