"I'm stuck! How do I finish the game?"
The next couple of sections will tell all. Read on...
Beginning the game
They say you are a "curious flying kite-like being"... or rather, a serpentine one. Originally this game was made for a controller, but plays exceptionally well with just the mouse (and the spacebar in one small section). Using the keyboard, although possible, is not recommended. As you navigate the area, you'll learn how to speed up and slow down. Note that you can travel even faster by rubbing yourself against sufficiently smooth surfaces!

And as you navigate the area, you'll also find your friends (are you all gods?). Keep exploring and interacting with things until you have all 15 of your friends. When you do, the music will change, and you can commence the game of hide-and-seek!

Close your eye.
Count down from 10 while your friends go out to hide.
When you open your eye again, you can navigate from Home to the main hub, which has that old-looking eye secret tracker dude, a graveyard (with a Journey easter egg!), and most importantly, 3 portals from which you can begin to find your friends.
How to complete each level (Part 1)
There are a total of 15 friends to find. I'll be going in approximate order from left to right, starting from the central hub area, where no friends are to be found.

Also no friends are found in any transition areas (i.e. areas with nothing to do and no one to interact with, but are just meant to serve as... well, a transition space between one or two other spaces).

Farm

1) Look for the glowing fruit with a distinctly different color from the background and touch it.
2) Also pass over the "X"s to grow vines, one of which will also contain fruit. It is key to touch this too.
3) Keep on touching the fruits until the background turns a somewhat vibrant color (blue or purple).
4) Look around. Do you see a green figure growing out of the ground? It's ELI!

Funfair

The key is to assemble the roller coaster, and there are 5 parts to it:

1) Toward the bottom, there are 5 platforms, 4 of which need a specific character placed on them. Go find these characters and have them ride you to this location. The 5th (4th from the right) platform will then fill up with something.
2) There is a spot just to the right and a little up from the roller coaster where you can light some flames. A thing will appear.
3) Gather up some folks and place them onto the Ferris Wheel ride in the center of the level. Wind up the wheel to give the folks a thrill... and in the process release a thing.
4) Seek out the horror ride (it's right and up from the Ferris Wheel — the camera will stop on it) and note the type of folks to pick up. Go find more of them and bring them back. Once the ride's full, it will begin... as well as the ensuing disaster. But one piece somehow remains unharmed.
5) What's a funfair (especially at night, but that's not the case here) without some showy lights? There are some near the top of the level, but they need electricity. Run through one of the two electric zones (note: it is not recommended to have anyone riding you, as they will be electrocuted!) and then pass through a string of lights. There are 6 strings to light up before something shows up.

Each roller coaster part will ride the front part of you and automatically assemble upon drop-off at the relevant location. Once you have the whole thing assembled, you'll find HARRIET!

Funspots (all those colorful circles!)

1) Seek out the hatmaker. He has a machine with 4 changing colored circles on it.
2) Upon first meeting, the circles will all change to specific colors and the hatmaker will ride you. Go out there and seek the colors. Note that the circle must not be too big for the hatmaker.
3) Once you have all 4 colors, return to the machine so that the hatmaker can create a hat with them.
4) There are 4 hats to create, so repeat steps 2 and 3 until you've created all 4 hats.
5) Once all 4 hats have been created and placed on the characters' heads, they will throw them all off in celebration. But wait! It's HECTOR!

Graph-ic (where all movement is square and on a grid)

This is by far the most linear area in the entire game. Each zone is essentially a puzzle chamber that you have to solve to progress:

1) Draw on the grid as much as possible. If you touch a boundary, the whole grid resets.
2) Cross yourself to create a rectangle to fill the grid. Fill the grid further by creating more shapes using yourself and the borders of previously created rectangles. If you touch a boundary, the whole grid resets.
3) Cut through the snake-like drawn bits.
4) Cross yourself on the filled bits to eliminate them. Clear the grid to progress.
5) Draw on the grid as much as possible? (I don't entirely understand this one)
6) Cross the lines to make "waves" and reveal new lines. Cross all 4 lines to progress.
7) Each time you turn, a diamond-shaped splash fills the grid. Fill the grid completely to progress.
8) Cross yourself to create a rectangle to clear the grid. Clear the grid further by creating more shapes using yourself and the borders of previously created rectangles. Find out you're not alone. It's MAUDE!

Wedding

1) Pick a bride and deliver them to the groom up top, beneath the bell.
2) Once you've chosen, ring to bell to give the blessing of marriage. Happily ever after...?
3a) There are three waiters toward the bottom, waiting to deliver the bubbly wine to folks. Not everyone will want some (the two rejects in particular won't want any), but most will want a glass. Simply pass by folks with the waiters riding you to deliver the drinks.
3b) Not enough to go around? This is expected. To refill your drinks, take the waiters for a dip into that great big red sea at the bottom of the level.
4) Once everyone has a drink, the firework ceremony will commence. Amid all the oohing and ahhing, check by the boat, where a touch of the fireworks at the right location will reveal a red figure. It's IEMANJA!

Kite Festival (in the sky)

There are 8 kites to fly before the 9th comes out:

1)

2)

3)

4) This one is extra-hidden:

5) Avoid the purple dangling things to keep the kite-tree from retracting:

6)

7) Timing is everything here, nothing more:

8) You need to shoo the bird toward a plant...

...so that the kite-tree gets dragged out so someone riding you can grab it:

9) It's ZACHARIAH!

Waterpark

1) So much fun (seriously, they need to start playing more synthwave at real waterparks)!! But to progress, you need to seek out a passage toward the bottom of the level:

2) This is the defunct side of the waterpark. Where once the main pool was, there is a sleeping figure with a cloud above his head. There are also 9 smaller clouds you need to (somewhat quickly) deliver to that bigger cloud.
3) The bigger cloud will then start to rain and awaken and refresh the sleeping figure, who will then ride you. Return through the passage from whence you came:

4) Deliver the figure to the biggest pool in the (now active) waterpark.
5) Return through the passage again to see what's changed. Where once there was an empty pool, there's an aquarium-pool.
6) At the bottom of this pool, it's OBERON!

Cavern

1) Scoop up the lady with the lantern.
2) There are purple gemmed gateways to pass, and each has 4 hidden zones that light purple when you bump into them. Note that there is a time limit to each puzzle, so be quick! And don't worry about bumping into any treasure — ignore the lady's disappointment, as it means nothing.
3) In fact, as you explore, there is one treasure that is meant to be bumped into. It looks like a snake, or maybe a worm. It's CECIL!
How to complete each level (Part 2)
Jungle

1) Gaze at that magnificent creature... that harbors among its folk a caged animal!
2) At the bottom of the level you'll find a fruit tree, but it needs sustenance, which can be found from those red/orange flowers (tip: don't fly at high-speed as the bits follow you).
3) Once the fruit is grown, get the animals climbing the vines to climb you so you can guide them to the fruit tree.
4) The animals will start picking fruit, and then ride you once their arms are full. It's now time for vengeance!
5) Return to that great beast you first found... and get ready for a little bullet hell as the animals upon you pelt fruit!
6) With enough persistence, the great beast will kick the cage and the animal within will be free!
7) Something unraveled in the process. It's CONSTANCE!

Tribal Forest

1) Find the tribal folk at the center of the level.
2) Pass by them so that all of those folk on the same row display the same mask-sign. No reflexes are necessary, only order.

Left side, top to bottom:
  • Left to right
  • Right to left
  • Left to right
  • Right to left
Right side, top to bottom:
  • Left to right
  • Left to right
  • Right to left
We know this because there are small arrows in the tree branches that point the way.

3) Once you harmonize all 7 rows of folk, look for a thing just above the tribal folk and pass by it:

4) Now ALL the tribal folk will display the exact same mask-sign.
5) ...but wait! One of these folk is not like the others! It's MAVIS!

Musical Space

1) Playing anything musical is... 100% optional!
2) Simply navigate to a certain single area in the level. That's all there is to it! Yes, this friend seems to be the worst at hiding.
3) It's JEFFCOAT!

Lights

1) All that stuff in the main section of the level is optional!
2) Go to the skies, at the top of the level. There are 4 figures, one of which looks rather serpentine...
3) To light up a figure, you gather star-bits and bring them to the figure.
4) The serpentine figure is, in fact, LOIS!

Pottery

1) I hope you like breaking pottery, 'cause that what you need to do. Break ALL (literally all) the pots! The potter will give out a sigh of despair.
2) Here's where things get slightly convoluted: you need to leave the area and return (not necessarily immediately). The potter will have created some new, bigger pots for you to break!
3) Repeat step 2. Even bigger pots to smash (that potter is sure ambitious!).
4) Upon returning again, you should see one GIANT vase with the potter sitting upon it. Try to knock this one over. It's LUTTERWORTH!

Industrial Honeypot

Basically, you need to fill the giant honeypot in the center of the level to the max. Gather the three helpers to have them suck up the honey spots just above the honeypot. As they grow full, deliver them to the edge of the honeypot so they can dump their stuff into the honeypot.

Oh, and you'll also need to wake up bees along the way. A few are lying idle among the pipes (and even one on the beehive), but to find more:
  • Head down the central pipe from inside the honeypot to reveal 12 sleeping bees (pass by to wake them), and return from whence you came to awaken a 13th bee.
  • Head down the right pipe from inside the honeypot and continue down once you reach the boiler to un-stick some sleeping bees. You need to be quick once inside the boiler lest you become miniaturized!
  • At the top left of the level, sound all the bells by passing by them to revel 3 sleeping bees.
  • At the top right of the level, sound all the whistles by passing by them to revel 3 sleeping bees.
Once filled to the max, head into that left-side pipe and keep moving. It's GRUBLIN!

(Also, call me based, but as beautiful as this game is, this is the grossest level.)

Tidal Sea-circles

1) There is a sailor seeking a mermaid-figure. She's out there, and if you try to bring her to the sailor, she'll be scared by the anchorfish.
2) So then the solution is to defeat the anchorfish. To do that, there are a couple of zones with rusted material. The fish follow you, and perhaps you can get them to follow you to one of these rusty zones.
3) Guide your rusty fish friends to the anchorfish, who will devour them, and become rusty in the process. Once completely rusted, the anchorfish will sink to the central sponge, defeated and harmless.
4) Continue on with guiding the mermaid figure to the sailor. It's completely safe now.
5) Upon seeing her, the sailor will lay upon her with happiness. But in the boat, it's FANSHAW!

The End

Once you've found your last friend, you'll know because the central timer back at Home will have reset.
Return Home however you like.
The last friend you find is the winner and gets to commence the countdown for the next round, where everyone else has to hide, including you!
Roll Credits (where are They hiding? Are there gods among us?), Thanks for Playing!

How to get all the achievements (First 11)
Nutpopers Delight

Location hint: Main hub

Solution: As the achievement description says, equalize all the popnuts. They are those abundant round things that, well, pop when you touch them. Although you can equalize them in one of two ways, it's easier to equalize them by making them all small.

Nutpopers Regret

Location hint: Kite Festival

Solution: As the achievement description says, equalize all the popnuts. They are those things in that one tree that, well, pop when you touch them. Although you can equalize them in one of two ways, it may be slightly easier to equalize them by making them all small.

The Twighlight Tickler

Location hint: Funfair

Solution: As the achievement description says, you need to light up all the lights without electrocuting a single soul — that's all there is to it. Hot tip: there are a few funnel-dispersers, including one nearby, that you can use to get folk off of you. You can also slow down to retract yourself so that said folk won't come back on you.

The Ostlers Daydream

Location hint: Kite Festival

Hint: Pass by the clouds.

Solution: When passing by the clouds, certain shapes will reveal themselves, one of which will trigger the achievement to unlock, so just keep passing by clouds until you see the achievement pop up.

Les Croque Parabolique

Location hint: Kite Festival

Hint: Those ladies ride the flower seeds you free — perhaps you noticed them float up into the sky, and some even land on a platform.

Solution: As the ladies are riding up on a seed, rush past them to guide them to the main platform toward the upper-top part of the level. There are 8 seed riders in total.

Young Ognathologist

Location hint: Tribal Forest

Hint: Slow down to become camouflaged.

Solution: Ognapods are those creatures that climb around trees in the wilds, but like many a prey-type creature in nature, will retreat if they see you. However if you move slowly, you'll be camouflaged and they won't notice you, allowing you to get a good look at one.

Celebrated Master of Ognapology

Location hint: Tribal Forest

Hint: See the above achievement — it's related.

Solution: Move slowly to become camouflaged so that the ognapods won't notice you. Keep navigating the area until you've gotten a good look at 4 different types of ognapod. Tip: listen as well as look — move slowly toward their sounds!

Stack 'em Up

Location hint: A suspiciously empty transition area

More specific location hint: The transition area between the Jungle and the Cavern

Hint: It involves doing stuff beyond the edges of the screen.

Solution: There are 4 Goons in hiding, beyond the edges of your screen. You need to pick them up specifically: from below (pink), from the right (orange), from above (yellow), and from the left (tiny), or else they won't stack correctly. It may take a few dips before you pick up a goon, so if at first you don't succeed...

Shame of the Scuttlers

Location hint: Tidal Sea-circles

Hint: A scuttler is a sea creature that rests on one of the sponges.

Solution: Seek out the cone-headed sea creature and chase it around. At some point it'll lose its cone, whence you can witness its embarrassment!

Clambound!

Location hint: Tidal Sea-circles

Hint: Did you find the clam? Did you pass by the clam?

Solution: The clam is toward the bottom of the level. Once you find it, carefully pass by all the fronds until they all light up. Then pass by once more to get trapped!

Ragazzi del 99

Location hint #1: Pottery

Location hint #2: Main Hub

Hint #1: Did you see the graves at the bottom of the Main Hub? If you pass by them, they light up, and if you pass by three of them, they will almost certainly flash as if an incorrect code was entered (and not just the Journey easter egg, mind).

Hint #2: Did you see the other guy at the bottom of the Pottery level? Pass by whenever he's pacing and he'll do something to you to show you something.

Solution Part 1: In the Pottery level, pass by that one guy at the bottom of the level whenever he's pacing and he'll reveal a shape for you. In fact he has three different shapes to reveal, and if you ever visited the graveyard in the Main Hub, these shapes should look familiar. I wonder what'll happen if you pass by the graves with exactly the suggested shapes on them....

Solution Part 2: A new portal opens! Enter it and travel to the bottom of the level, where everything is grayscale. There's an ice cream vendor on the left, waiting for patrons. Head to the right to find some patrons to deliver to the ice cream vendor, and don't worry, for though you can endlessly travel right, the ice cream vendor won't be far behind.
The Hohokquick achievement
This one is conceptually easy: just speedrun the game in under 60 minutes. As with any speedrun achievement, it'll take a bit of (slightly studious) practice and memorization, so feel free to refer to the first portion of this guide since you're basically going to be doing all the non-optional stuff as quickly as possible. Note that you have to sit through the credits before the achievement will unlock, so if you think you have it, be patient once you've finished.

Unconfirmed: Selecting "Visit Home" from the pause menu won't affect this achievement.

Some special tips for speed:
  • Bump into sufficiently smooth surfaces (e.g. those at Home) for a speed boost.
  • For Funfair, note the initial location of some key folk and head there first. Also don't be afraid to pick up a few extra folk. Try to knock out the character platforms and horror ride first, then the Ferris Wheel (which is indiscriminate as to which folk you place into its seats).
  • For most transition areas, you'll just be beelining it, but for the transition area between Funspots and the Graph-ic area, you should focus on avoiding touching any spots (they're not as rough as popnuts, but can still hinder your time).
  • For the Graph-ic area, try not to go off the edge in the first two areas. Also once the door to the next area unlocks, maybe don't accelerate when trying to enter it.
  • For Kite Festival, try to avoid the popnut tree. You only need 8 folk, and you can find plenty elsewhere.
  • For Jungle, note that it only takes the seeds from two flowers for the tree to grow fruit. Also, for the bullet hell section, you can simply go in tight circles (slow down completely) to safely dodge most of the "bullets", thereby minimizing the number of times your animal pal gets knocked off of you.
  • For Tribal Forest, be sure to pop one of those small round things for a speed boost.
  • For Tidal Sea-circles, head toward a rusty sponge first and bring some fish with you. Then head toward the anchorfish. With enough fish, you should be able to defeat the anchorfish in one trip. Then the "mermaid" figure will simply head toward you — you can speed up btw and she won't miss you.
  • For Pottery, learn where the tipping hitbox is for each pot and repeatedly aim for it. Two quick hits is generally sufficient (if you're not quick enough, don't despair, as you may still have time). Also, it gets easier as you progress, but it still takes around 4-6 minutes total to reveal this friend.

Finally, some good routing:
  • From the first (red) circle, go right into the Wedding and progress until the end; backtrack to the red zone*
  • From the first (red) circle, go left into the farm, move on to the towers transition area, head into the Funfair, then back out into the towers transition area and into Funspots and progress until the end; move on and return to the Main Hub*
  • From the second (black) circle, go left and keep progressing until the end; return to the Main Hub*
  • From the second (black) circle, go right and keep progressing until the end; return to the Main Hub*. Do not backtrack, as it's actually slightly slower to do so.
  • From the third (spotted) circle, keep progressing until you get to the Pottery level. Knock over all the pots once, then head into either the yellow or cyan circles. After doing your thing, return to the Pottery level and knock over all the pots again. Head into either the cyan or yellow circles (whichever one you haven't visited). Again, after doing your thing, return to the Pottery level and knock over all the pots once more. Leave and immediately return to the Pottery level to reveal the giant piece of pottery. Finally, return to the main hub through the Lights level (this is fastest)*.
*Or return Home (moving forward if necessary) if this is your last friend. If you're in the Pottery level, it's best to return home through either the yellow or cyan circles.

Other fun things to do in Hohokum
Home
  • There are three areas where your serpentine friends can symmetrize with you: one is mirrored, one is direct, and one is double-speed. Try each one out with differing numbers of friends. Gain an appreciation for mathematics.
  • There's an area with a bouncy thing at the center.
  • There are also two more things that light up whenever you or a friend touches it (and the hollow one even reveals an entrance).
  • Around the central timer, there are 8 small circles that, when touched by either you or a friend, turn into colored wedges. Once all 6 wedges are revealed, some music plays.
Main hub
  • Look for a thing (actually 4 things) toward the right of the level and carefully pass into their centers. If successful, you'll get a trippy effect.
  • After leaving the area once (and maybe doing some other things as well), return to find three non-curvy symbols on the gravestones. Light them all up for a Journey easter egg (specifically it's that game's serpentine antagonist).
  • After equalizing all the popnuts, check the center of the level for a thing to do some cool stuff to all the popnuts.
Farm
  • Watch what becomes of the farmers and livestock as you pass by.
  • Pass by the trees to grow fruit. Pass by again to "harvest" fruit.
Funfair
  • Deliver folks to the attractions such as the funhouse mirrors. Realize that there are too many and that at some point you need to get them off of you.
  • In particular, there are some teeter-totters seeking a specific type of character. Go fill up all the teeter-totters.
  • How many types of folk can you find?
  • Get stuck in that one unfinished ride. Try to find a way out (tip: use the keyboard if using KB&M).
  • See how long you can hold onto those target/bumper things....
  • Find the three characters looking for the Key Club, Pineapple Rooms, and Swashbuckling Syndicate (shoe icon). Find out what's really inside those areas!
  • Enliven all the plants, as well as some small structures by them.
  • Find a couple of folk playing a game. One thinks the other is cheating and flips the table!
  • How many "ride the snake" signs can you find? I found three myself.
  • Find the marketplace. Also find the balloon vendor, where if you deliver the right character to them, they will inflate said character and she will rise forever!
  • Run folks through the rain.
  • Accidentally electrocute folks. You know you did it already 👀
Side note: the transition area just before the Funfair looks similar esthetically. Perhaps this is the roadway either to/from the Funfair, or the Funfair is off to the side?

Funspots
  • Check out what all the various folk are doing with Spots.
  • More practically, you can continue to help out the hatmaker even after you've found your friend.
  • Find four portals to special circle areas. In one, you grow circles; in another, you "pop" bigger circles to reveal smaller ones; in yet another, you color in circles permanently; in still another, you erase circles. In all cases, 100% completion of the task at hand results in a bright psychedelic pattern displaying against a suddenly dark background. The colors are based on you, and the closer you are to the center, the faster the pattern will move. Tip: be systematic and super thorough, as it's incredibly easy to miss the tiniest things!
Graph-ic
  • All the doors of the lab remain open to you if you want to backtrack and draw (or erase) some more.
  • Check out what all the scientists are doing in each room. You can wake a couple of them up by hitting the wall at high speed!
Wedding
  • Find the two rejected brides among everyone else after you've chosen.
  • Keep ringing that bell. Listen to all the different sounds that come from it.
  • Fireworks, fireworks, fireworks... ooohh, ahhhh, ...
Kite Festival (in the sky)
  • Find all potential kite flyers.
  • Light up some plants (they will turn fuschia).
  • See how long you can hold onto those target/bumper things....
  • Pass by some (more) clouds. What all do you see?
Waterpark
  • Deliver folks in swimwear to the waterslides, hot springs, diving boards, and lawn recliners (where you can watch them tan).
  • How many types of folk can you find? What do they all look like in and out of their swimwear?
  • Pass by what looks like a lifeguard to blast out a wave.
  • Equalize all the umbrellas.
  • Help folks get changed into their swimwear.
  • There are two places you can run yourself by to activate some water jets, where a pentatonic scale that matches the music's key plays.
  • The smooth surfaces on the rocks here are fun to dilly-dally on as well, and there are a few areas you can get yourself into a speedy loop.
  • Check out what the giant elephant-creature is spawning into the aquarium (found after completing a few progression-related things).
  • Question why there isn't more 80s-style synthwave at more waterparks.
In the transition area between Waterpark and Cavern, you can freak out the rural folk below....

Cavern
  • Break every single treasure. Hear the lady's agonized disappointment each time.
  • 100% the level (purple crystals, eyes, your friend) without breaking a single treasure.
  • 100% the level (purple crystals, eyes, your friend) without the lady's lamp being put out.
  • The ultimate challenge: do the above two things at once. Major bonus points if you speedrun as well!
Jungle
  • Grow trees. Shrink trees.
  • Surprise the wildlife. Some birds will ride you!
  • Find a sloth-monkey creature with a child riding her.
  • See how many sloth-monkey creatures you can get to ride you.
  • Amass bits from the red/orange flowers. How much can you hold?
Tribal Forest
  • Try to summon the beast before anything else. Feel as unimpressed as the beast itself.
  • In the following transition area, you can see that very same beast sleeping... until it opens an eye at you.
  • Witness as many different mask-signs from the tribal folk as you can.
  • Try to maintain high velocity for as long as possible by popping small round things.
  • Pass through the trees/logs.
  • Go hunting for ognapods!
Musical Space
  • Touch the top and/or bottom parts once for a slow rhythm, again for a fast rhythm, and once more to stop the rhythm.
  • Pass by all the reptilian creatures. Hear their sounds.
  • Pass by not just the strings, but the stones. One of the stones tilts, and another (the one just above the one that tilts) releases a big bassy sound that wakes all the reptilian creatures.
Lights
  • Underneath each platform, you can deactivate all the lights on top... and re-activate them! The instrumentation of the music changes too!
  • I mentioned something about the sky. Check out the alien-like figures that appear.
Industrial Honeypot
  • Spend time in the boiler to become miniaturized. Regret it.
  • Activate a mechanism to clean yourself. Restore your colors.
  • Find a mechanism to ring a bell at high velocity.
  • Attempt to go into the beehive. Get chased out (it's even more dramatic with active bees!).
  • After your work is done, check the bottom of the level for some tuckered-out bees.
Tidal Sea-circles
  • Find some sponges without water surrounding them and touch them to release the water.
  • Outside of the tidal sea-circles, you can pop some red/white things. They reveal nothing and respawn quickly, but it's a thing.
  • See what comes out of the rocks when the tide is high.
  • Tourture those poor scuttlers (yes, you can do it multiple times).
The game's secret "mechanic" they didn't tell you about
Roll the mousewheel to zoom out! Fun, but maybe also a little helpful.
SPOILERS: Eyes, Transliterations, and Secrets, Oh My!
Text Transliterations

How the writing system works: Each vowel is a look-alike to its English counterpart. Succeeding consonants are offshoots of the base vowel. For example, a P is an O with one dot, a Q is an O with 2 dots, etc. up to T. Incidentally, this means that V and especially W (and even F) actually resemble their English counterparts too!

Hints for Finding All the Hidden Eyes

Note: upon finding an eye, you can simply click on it to open it as well as pass by it to do the same.

General
  • Always be on the lookout for a distinct lens shape and/or a slit.
  • Be persistent — in some areas, you'll feel a momentum as you keep finding eyes. Try not to lose it.
  • Like with any hidden object game, be thorough. Don't be afraid to comb through an area more than once.
  • If you need to quit the game, your progress will be saved.
  • There are no eyes to be found in transition areas and certain levels: Farm, Graph-ic, and Musical Space.
  • The eye tracker will appear in the pause menu to give you a local (where applicable) and global count of all the eyes you found. There are 146 eyes to find.
Main hub
  • 15 of the eyes are right where the eye tracker resides.
  • The other 3 eyes are already open, hidden behind popnuts.
Funfair
  • All the eyes are horizontally oriented.
  • Look around various structures, particularly at the top or bottom.
Funspots
  • There are 8 gray areas, and each one contains an eye.
Wedding
  • All 6 eyes are toward the bottom of the level. You may need to wait for a dip in the wine sea in order to open them.
Kite Festival (in the sky)
  • All 10 eyes are hidden in the stone structures.
  • No stone structure contains more than one eye.
Waterpark
  • All 8 eyes are toward the bottom of the level, inside that gray rocky area that looks like it's part of the background.
Cavern
  • All the eyes are horizontally oriented. They also stand out pretty distinctly.
Jungle
  • There are only 5 eyes: 3 toward the bottom of the level, and 2 toward the top.
Tribal Forest
  • This level is the trickiest to find eyes. You'll likely need to patiently comb through the whole forest a few times.
  • All the eyes are horizontally oriented, or nearly so.
  • All the eyes blend in with, but do not overlap, the foreground trees. None are located where the tribal folk are.
Lights
  • 4 of the eyes are where the 4 light platforms are.
  • The other 4 eyes are in the sky among the stars, and are much smaller, but still larger than the stars.
Pottery
  • There are only 5 eyes: 1 toward the bottom of the level, 2 nearby the potter, and 2 where the pottery shelves are.
Industrial Honeypot
  • All the eyes are horizontally oriented, or nearly so.
  • Keep exploring to find all the eyes, as they come in all different colors and sizes.
Tidal Sea-circles
  • Keep exploring to find all the eyes, as they come in all different colors and sizes.
  • The eyes are all found in rocks (but never those with those red/white things on them that can be popped) and background details.
  • Sometimes you'll need to wait for a tide to recede before getting an eye.

...and what happens when you find all the eyes, you may ask? Upon visitation, the eye tracker dude rides you to Home, where one last eye remains, where you can find out the eye tracker's real name! You'll need to understand the in-game script, however. See above for that.

Thanks for reading this guide!
I hope it helped in some way. After all, Hohokum is a game about childlike innocence, purity, and above all, joy! May it make your day(s) better and help you to de-stress 💞

iirc the eyes are around structures and whatnot — none of the eyes are "in the open", unlike in some other areas of the game.

Only juuust started out, and rather confused still, but getting into it a bit more now. I think... ;-)

Did you see my first post below? I think it would help out new players if there was a bit of a screenshot of HOME and of HUB. So that it's clearer from the start which world we're in and limit some of the initial confusion. Just until we get going a bit and familiarizing orselves with the various worlds in there.

Oh - and of course: thanks for making the Guide :-D

I'm sure this will be a great help. - And also for me personally it makes a difference at purchase decision that there IS a guide available. Sometimes I need them, sometimes I don't. But just knowing that it's there makes a big difference :-) I hate getting irrevocably stuck from moving onwards in a game, just because there are one or two things somewhere that I don't get on my own!

I've only just started playing the game (bought it yesterday). Starting up blind in the game can be rather confusing.
So - this Guide seems to be mostly for players who are already into it a bit.
But could you consider adding a screenshot of HOME - so that we know what that looks like and know that THAT's where we are. And also a screenshot of HUB - since it's not very obvious from descriptions here what that looks like so we know when we're there.
So that we get a bit of a help in actually getting over the starting line and into the game proper.
