It's less likely that you'll be able to line up another of the enemy crew in the beam's path, so it's best used when you really want THAT one dead (i.e. last crew).
Also, I believe the bio-beam CAN damage Zoltan shields...
Also there's an order of priority for enemy crew manning things. Mind control someone working on something high-priority and crew from lower-priority stations move to man that station and in the process they get in to a fight.
Again not sure but Mind Control also can be used to temporarily drop a Ship's Evasion to 0% which is especially useful here with the Ariolimax as it allows you to basically have a guaranteed chance to have the two Chain Laser Shots hit as well as saving drone parts for hacking.
