Patch pre-Alpha 0.5.3.2

Hello and welcome to yet another Draconia 101 Guide!

This time around, we take a step further from the Character Creation and check out all the playable creatures in more detail, an extension of the previous tables so to say. Remember, every species in Draconia is or will be playable!

Main Dragons
I show you what the 6 main dragon species are and what makes each of them special and worth trying out!

Wildlife - Side Characters
Not only dragons roam on the islands of Altuis. We check out what other playable beasts live there. The list of side characters includes the Ka'sai!

Reworks & WIP Beasts
Since not all planned creatures are released yet, I show you who we still need to wait for and, for as much as published, how far their development is!

Statweight
Thanks to the devs being kind to me I can provide each species exact stats. Well, mostly, as not all stats have been fully calculated. That's why for attack and defense it says "base", they are the same for all species until further notice.

Now let's just hop right into the chaos fun!

Reworks
First of all, something important: REWORKS. Nearly every creature is getting a rework and many reworks are already cooking hot in the dev kitchen. This is, if I'm not mistaken, mainly a preparation for the rework of the character creator and will allow a better customization of your dragons.
Good boi Sound does a great job on the new designs, giving them all a new soul (if that makes sense?) and more unique Draconia touch!

The tables below only refer to the progress of the reworks. I always suggest joining the games official Discord and their Trello board to stay updated on the progress more directly. These are the sources I get my information from too after all.
You'll find the links at the end of this guide as usual.

*The Vodros (European Dragon) is the only species that gets everything changed, including the animations. Other species do not require new ones due to the proportions of the new models, hence some of the Fyrrwins (Wyvern) animations were made using the old model. Animations are included here because enough creatures don't have them at all yet.

**The Scarrok only gets minor improvements, I'll keep it in this table though.

As you can see, a few creatures are missing here. The Ka'sai do not get a rework because, well, they already got one in the past with a better model and a new skin before animation works on them started.
The Prystaria (Fae) and Reeka (Griffin) will not get reworks because they are backer creatures funded through an Indiegogo perk.
Another special thing here are the Carpil. These are the small crabs on the beaches that are currently running around with old placeholder models from the asset store. Their models and more of the new models can currently be viewed near the large crystal tree.

Heads up!
The great rework does worry many players since it will most likely mean the deletion of our current beloved characters. I too will miss my little Araya if that happens, but I am more excited to see how I can recreate or rework her then being sad about loosing her when the big update goes live.
An opportunity to improve her design!

I hope you can look at it the same way and have fun creating more cool looking dragons! Besides, the dev team does their best to prevent character wipes from happening whereever possible.

Vodros, more commonly known as European Dragon, is the oldest playable species of Draconia and by far the most customizable at the games current state.

They are mighty beasts holding the shadow element. Their breath attack comes with a bright purple smoke instead of classic fire and they have a strong bite attack.

All in all, Vodros are planned as a solid allrounder.

Vodros like it hot. The first map of the game had Vodros eggs all over the shores of a lava pit in the mosty burned area and the hatchery of Aphtaria Hawa has such a Vodros egg in the fire nest. So chances are high a lot of them will nest all over Ignasley on Island B.

All screenshots will be updated with the species rework release.

If you usually play the rogue of the group, the Yggaron, more commonly known as Lindworm, "Lindy" or "Snek" in the community, may be your dragon to go for your adventures on Altuis. They are the smallest and most vulnerable of the main dragon species, besides the humanoid Ka'sai.
Yggaron are flightless and prefer to hide and ambush their prey, but they are not fully defenseless.
They are poisonous and perfectly capable of ruining their opponents day with nasty bites and a poison breath. No worries, the planned talent tree will help spice things up even more.

One of the Yggarons main planned mechanic is digging and burrowing. While it is not yet clear how this will work and if it's just hiding or even to move around, it surely will give them an advantage in certain situations. Their new model from getting reworked also supports this lifestyle more with their claws and head being more build for digging.

Canyons such as the small northern one on Island A or the majority of Island B will likely be their prefered habitat.

That believe comes from the 2 previous maps in the games alpha state, which both already had amazing canyons which were marked with a dragon stone with the Yggarons symbol on it.

Yamati are perhaps the most elegand of our dragons. Did you know that they like to snuggle up in groups to sleep, which is called a "Ramen Bowl"?

These lovely "Noodles" or "Udon" as they are often called by the community are the supporters with healing water magic and in some cases cozy warming fur.

They can fly despite the lack of wings and like to hang out near water. A giant lake on the first map was marked by their dragon stone and acording to an ingame note they like Mytelias a lot, a seashell found all over the coastlines of Altuis' islands.

They come in a scaly and a furred version and, fitting to their water theme, can have coral like antlers rather than normal horns.

The Fyrrwin, better known as Wyvern, is a fan favorite, with many people from the community being most excited for its release.

Their model looks very reptile-/crocodile-like with big strong scales and since neither the fans nor the devs could decide wether a lipped or teethy mouth would be better, we simply got both.

The planned special ability for them is hanging onto walls, a handy ability for their prefered habitat, the flying isles of Altuis. They are the fire classic of the main dragons but likely more on the swift and agile side than the Vodros.

Fyrrwin are the classic fire type with a hot and painful fire breath and likely just as hot temper.
Do not disturb a mother with her eggs!

And yet, they seem to serve as loyal companions for our loved mischief lizards, who do tame these dangerous beasts. A note in Aphtaria Hawa tells, Ka'sai take good care of Fyrrwin eggs.

Perhaps the way is to imprint a hatchling rather than befriending a wild adult that would more likely use your very bones to chew on instead of the toy you offer.

These giant angy bats are masters of dancing in the sky, only topped by the graceful Yamati. And I'm not only refering to them literally having emotes for that!

In fact, the Fyrrwin currently show a bit more of what's to expect for the other creatures in the future by having a variety of emotes available on the ground and in the air, a glimpse at the future for us to enjoy.

The Ka'sai are the humans of Draconia. They are the ones who built and live in the many camps and villages you can find all over Altuis' islands, including the city of Athyne.

They'll play a huge part in the games story and are a foundation of its lore, with many item names, the creature names and location names such as "Sonotal Cara" and "Aphtaria Hawa" being written in their language.

While we don't know much about their culture, hints to some rather dangerous jobs they do can be found in villages and camps.

Foraging and gathering materials around the forests or along the beaches, including diving for certain items seem to be common jobs for Ka'sai.

Yet another note from the billboard shows that specially the diving is not without risks, so take your best buddy with you in case something happens!

We also know that they form deep bonds with the creatures around them, mainly their trustworthy companions: dragons.
They do tame them and could even be breeding certain species, such as griffins who have a similar purpose as carrier pigeons in Ka'sai culture, or even Fyrrwin, as a note from Aphtaria Hawas billboard suggests.

Like the other inhabitants of Altuis, Ka'sai come in many different flavors, from natural and more decent colors to bright and colorful, including multiple body paint options. While it's not 100% sure, I believe these are to show either status or membership, but for us it's simply beauty.

Wildlife Creatures
Wildlife creatures are considered Side Characters and are overall weaker then the 6 big dragon species. This category includes the Ka'sai, they do keep their dedicated section in this guide though.

Reekas are the games incarnation of chaos.

Their unusual design, being a mixture of a corvid and a panther, gives them a different feel than you would expect from a creature mostly displayed as a powerfull and elegand beast.

Draconias griffins are so far the only flying wildlife creature in the game, but as such stay on the weaker side of combat.
They can peck and flap their wings for wind based attacks, but unless they're in a whole flock of maniacs, a Reeka wouldn't dare to actually attack any bigger dragon.

Despite that, I am convinced they would bully them like a crow pulling on an eagles feathers!

Reekas are raised and trained by the Ka'sai to deliver letters or small items from one place to another, resulting in them testing out how far they can go when it comes to stealing food and messing with the poor lizards.

And ending up on their plates more often...

Scarroks are commonly known as the doggos of Draconia. They are very small relatives of the Gaulung aka Behemoths and wield the fire element, which they show off with firey bites or a flame spin when jumping.

They live up in the mountains as a note ingame suggests, but it is unknown is they hunt alone or in packs.

They are mentioned in the IMPORTANT note as companions of the hunters. It describes how untrained young Scarroks are undesirable within the village and that it is the task of their hunters to keep and train them. Apparently, they have a special role in Ka'sai culture.

They are both draconic hunting dogs and a feared threat to travelers and raiders. It is also clear that one should not underestimate their thicc scales that protect their body, so be carefull when you approach one!

While they cannot fly, they can jump very high for the own height and are quite fast and have a lot of stamina when they run around. This speed can turn into a great advantage to either run to the next hiding spot or hunt sprey, big and small.

Gardeos' exist. There is literally not much more to say. They are smol röcks, they don't do much and sound rather polite for the first creature in Draconias history that could actually fight back when provoked. Yes, I play the game for that long. :P

Sadly, they are still waiting to be readded as AI.
On the brighter side, they can wear christmas hats!

Hokura - Draconic Turtle

Hokura are semi-aquatic beasts that roam around Altuis' shores and beaches, with Sonotal Cara being one of their nesting grounds.

Their scales are used by the Ka'sai for crafting, mainly being collected after 2 Hokura got in a fight for rescources such as a good nesting spot.

They look like giant draconic snapping-tortoises that want to just delete your life.exe file when you get 0.03 inches to close to whatever they consider their property. Luckily, they are not that fast, on land at least. In the water, they are in the top 3 with swimming speed, riveling the Yggaron and bested by the Yamati.
WIP Species
These WIP species are not released yet, but thanks to in-game notes and some WIP fotos from the discords public channels we can say a thing or two about then anyways! :)
Speaking of, the official Draconia community discord is the best place to stay up to date on their development. So if you're interested in them, I suggest joining it or checking out the Draconia Trello board. Both are linked in the last guide section. :)

Main Species
Gaulung & Tecatl - Giant Drake & Amphithere
Gaulung and Tecatl are the 2 less known dragons of the big 7. The Gaulung is meant to be the tank of the group, wielding the earth element likely to shield itself. Tecatl on the other hand are mighty beings with light magic that spent most of their time flying through the clouds.

Wildlife Species
Prystaria - Fae Dragon
With Reekas being pure chaos, Prystaria are the incarnation of mischief. Their combination is to be avoided!
They are the smallest dragon species, around the size of drakes and have a insect-inspired design. There is nothing known about their life- or playstyle.

Kylan - Kirin
Kylan might serve as trustworthy steeds for Ka'sai hunters and travelers alike. When compared to a dragon they'll surely be much easier to handle too. Since all we have are a few older concept art and their model, we can only speculate on their in-game nature.
Their new overall design is closer to a deer, like the japanese Kirin. Their old design is actually closer to the chinese creature Quilin.

Carpil - Crabs
The Carpil are already widespread enemies on Daziban, the first island. They are currently not playable, but will probably become playable as soon as they receive their new models. A special feature of the Carpil is that they will come in 2 variants, small crabs and larger bosses.
Final Words
As always and mentioned above, I'll drop you some helpful links for the game:
When joining their Discord, make sure to check out the #info and #work-in-progress channels for more interesting links and a good look at what's cooking in the dev kitchen!

Hopefully I could assist you in finding out which creature to play.
I will keep it updated like my other Draconia 101 guides, so be prepared that this guide will change a LOT in the future.
