Fun Facts
Fistula: The tradition of fighting the boss with its parts breaking into smaller and smaller pieces is based on the arcade classic "Asteroids".

A fistula is a medical condition in which organs and other bodily tissues are abnormally connected to each other.

Fistula is a name used for another enemy in one of Edmund McMillens games which can be found here http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/453581 (Warning: Graphic depictions of genitalia)

Chub: Chub's tendency to eat bombs only to have them blow up internally is very reminiscent of the Dodongos and Dodongo Snakes from the Zelda series.

Chub is a female.

Peep: If his eye kills you, a Boom Fly will appear as it killed you,

Gurdy: The process by which Gurdy's head reappears when she performs her basic attack is described as "birthing" in the Unholy Edition art booklet. The vertical cleft through which she pokes her head would seem to symbolize a vaginal opening.

According to Edmund, her name came from gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
