Dreadmaur is the ancient homeland of the Orcs. Long ago, the Orcs roamed the plains hunting the mighty buffalo. The ancient tribes of Orcs were devastated by a dreadful apocalypse known as the Godfall. During this time the gods of the heavens fell from the sky and the gods from the underworld rose to the surface. This left the realm of Dreadmaur a pockmarked and fiery hellscape. Many generations later nature is starting to reclaim the land and small tribes of Orcs are starting to emerge and reconquer their old world. The Gods may be dead, but the Orcs survive.

The Ashlands - Realm of the Demons
Twin Mounts of Hate: The most notorious deities of the underworld arose to the surface here: the twins, Phonos the God of Murder and Discadia the God of Lies and Deceit. Demons emerged from the hells through these twin mounts and spread across the Ashlands.
Blacktowers: Two great towers built by demons in ages past. Now fallen in to disrepair.
Marroc's Rise: The place where Marroc, the deity of destruction and conquest arose. In ancient times he was often revered by soldiers.
The Sundering: The forces of the apocalypse literally tore the world apart. This hellscape extends far to the North and forms the natural Northern border of Dreadmaur.
Firebreak Mountains: Forms a welcome natural border between the Ashlands and the lands to the South.
Ash Fen: This sooty marshland is a safe haven from the nearby demons as it is only accesible by water.

The Great Plains - The Ancient Home of the Orcs
King's Rest: Important archeological site of ancient Orc tribes. There are six burial mounds of ancient Orc kings here (one partially submerged beneath water).
The Guardian Serpent: Giant stone and earthwork snake built by long dead Orcs, dating back to the earliest days of the apocalypse. Built to ward off the Demons of the Ashlands.
The Middle Mounts: Just mountains. Named for their position between the Ashlands, Desert and Plains.
Firewater Fen: Stagnant marsh formed by a nearby natural lava dam.
Whitebank: A large natural sandbank obstructing the course of the great river. For unknown reasons, many ageing creatures seek out this region to die. Scattered with the bones of dead creatures.

The Northern Desert - A Desert Realm of Strange Wonder
Volcarg's Furnace: The final resting place of the artisan god. Weapons and armour made here are beyond compare.
Volcarg's Vault: These glittering underground caves are said to house the many wonders crafted by the artisan god. To lay eyes upon them is to be ever possessed by their beauty.
Silver Mount: Greedy eyes will turn to the riches hidden under this mountain.
Eye of Tempastas: An eternal storm said to have been started by the death throes of the old storm God, Tempastas.
Drygulch: Just an abnormally hot and arid valley.
The Deeproad: An ancient underground passageway dug by long dead Orcs.
Great North Range: Natural border of Dreadmaur, only the Sundering lies beyond.

Creepmarsh - "Heed my words. Nothing good ever came from venturing into the marshes." - a very wise Orc shaman
Morass of Madness: Those who tread here fall into madness.
Charrogh's Cauldron: Where the shepherd of the dead arose. It is said the dead walk here.
Jolund's Watch: The Lord of Justice watched over all the world from the highest peak in Dreadmaur. Some believe he survived the Godfall and may still watch over the land. The mountain is too tall for an Orc to scale, so we will never know.
Jolund's Mirror: The calm surface of the lake belies the dangerous torrents beneath. Named for the nearby mountain, Joulund's Peak.
Irongap Mountain: A mountain with cavernous trenches that descend into the hells themselves. Rich in Iron.
The Firestone: Ancient Orc shaman would conduct some kind of trial here that involved walking barefoot across the stones. Apparently it would gift the Shaman with great wisdom and clarity of mind... and presumably burnt feet!

Gaiyan Crater - Here rests the Mother Goddess Herself
The Lifeseed: Said to be the exact spot that the Mother Goddess who birthed all the other Gods and the world itself, fell to Dreadmaur.
Sanctuary Spring: Holy waters protect any that sip from the spring.
Greenvale: A verdant valley full of life.

The Great Scorch - The endless desert
Font of eternity: It is rumoured that these magical waters grant eternal youth to those that drink of them.
Life's End Oasis: The final fresh waters before the Neverending Scorch that extends to the West forming the natural Western border of Dreadmaur. The Scorch pilgrims started their pilgrimages here.
Pilgrim's Path: Ancient Orcs who wished to attone for crimes or sins could do so by making the Scorch Pilgrimage, a trek into the Neverending Scorch. If they made it to the other side they would find attonement there, but to turn back invites eternal damnation. Nobody knows how far the Scorch extends. The most common path taken by the pilgrims lies here, along the South coast.
Angel's Rest: For so many to fall from the heavens in one place, a mighty battle must have taken place above.

The Southwest Peninsula - A land of sorrow
Lunara's Gift: The beautiful moon goddess Lunara gifted this great gem to the ancient Orcs. It was placed in a calm lake that reflected the night sky perfectly. During the apocalypse the peninsula housing the lake was torn in half, the sea waters rushed in and destroyed the calm waters of the lake and the gem shattered. The cracking of the gem can still be heard from the nearby shores to this day. It is said to be the most hauntingly sad sound one could ever hear, and those that do hear it will be driven to dispair for the rest of their days.
The Drowning Pools: This sunken strait has an unpredicatable tide. It can suddenly become engulfed by the sea drowning any who dwell upon it.
The Forgotten Jungle: Seperated from the mainland when the peninsula split. Nobody treads here now.

The Southeastern Coast - The ancient home of the Godspeakers
Godspeaker Monuments: Six natural stone pillars that extend into the sky. Ancient Orc shaman known as Godspeakers, would scale these great monuments to speak with the Gods. This is how they guided their tribes.
Southern Desert: Unremarkable dry landscape trekked by ancient traders from the south to the plains above.
The Moonsea: Huge inland sea created by a falling god. The crescent shape of the crater leads some to beleive that this is the resting place of the moon goddess Lunara.
Acrid Isle: The gods of disease, pestilence and famine rose to the surface here. Their names are forgotten, as it was a sin to speak them.
Crystal Coast: Great wealth can be found here, just washing up upon the shore.
Crescent Coast: Unremarkable stretch of coastline that didn't exist during ancient times. Formed during the creation of the Moonsea.

The Islands and the Oceans - the Orcs are not known to be great seafarers, so for them, this is the edge of the world
The Trademeres: Seas protected by natural reefs and island chains. The Deep Horrors can't make it past the shallow borders of the trademeres, and so much of the ancient Orc's sea trade took place in these waters.
The Kraken Sea: Unsafe waters occupied by the Deep Horrors.
The Crater Isles: Two large islands formed during the apocalypse by unknown falling deities.
Barricade Islands: Natural barrier that protects the trademeres from the Deep Horrors.
Gate to Thalass: A natural passage from the trademeres into Thalass. Skirts dangerously close to the Kraken Sea.
Thalass: The great ocean that extends for unknown distances to the East. The Orcs use the name given to it by a crew of ancient visitors who once arrived from the East. These beings, known as Elves, imparted the knowledge of seafaring to the ancient Orcs."

Nice idea Asylum, hope the Orcs did okay against these pesky upstart other races, hehe. Demonics sound like a good fit for the Ashlands for sure! If you are spraying traits around when Orcs claim a landmark I'd recommend starting some in the Crater or near the Font of Eternity as the Immune (i think thats what its called) trait can stop the various infections spreading out of the marsh and taking over the map!

Hmm. I got some modded races added in. Thinkin it would be fun to add in a few of those to oppose the rise of the orcs. (Got the isekai one.) Thinkin the beast people would fit in nicely. Dark elves. Demonics. Possibly angels too. And use the ancient chinese as the human faction. Toss in some dwarves and elves too. Any good suggestions on where to place em out on the map? Also, the shrine buffs, I guess I just do the trait spray on the orcs when they manage to claim one? Love the map btw. Seems interesting. I will restrict the shrine buffs to the orcs only tho. Maybe the beast ppl can have em too?

I didn't use an exact process since I was just tweaking and playing around for quite a while. It is a combination of reduce noise, oil paint, a grey scale find edges layer, the texturizer filter for canvas. I edited the hue/saturation contrast etc too. I also generated grey scale clouds and fibres for the patchiness and folds on the fabric. You could skip that last bit and just overlay a image of a canvas or something from google though.

lol, thanks ingsib, but without Worldbox I wouldn't have been able to draw the map!

@Obese Cat: The map is Iceberg size, so biggest available without any mods. If you mean the artwork, it is just multiple screenshots stitched together.
