Hello!

This guide is an auxiliary companion for my personal collection of modifications for the game Project Zomboid v41.78.16.
So first of all, subscribe to all the works from my collection, and also download additional files from its description.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3050817039

Let's Rock!
1. Install collection ^
As stated earlier, this guide is designed to help properly set up my personal collection. Therefore, the first point is to install the collection.

  1. Open the collection using the link above ^
  2. Click on the button
    "Subscribe to everything"
at the bottom of the page under the description
  3. Subscribe to two workshop items from the description in the collection (G.E.A.R. & LC Redux)

We've sorted this out and can move on to the next point in this guide.
2. Install classic EFK Menu style
This version now standalone item in workshop (Thanks Kamer! <3)

There is a workshop item in the collection that changes the game's main menu to an EFT-style menu. However, it was created for playing on a specific server. STRadaT and I adapted this menu to the general classic style of the game, without being tied to a specific server.

Personally, for me it turned out to be much nicer than the vanilla game menu.
I recommend installation.
Examples[imgur.com]

If you do not like the replacement of the main menu, go to the "Uninstall" part in this section.

Uninstall:
  1. Unsubscribe from "EFK Main Menu [1.8] Vanilla Edition"
  2. Remove all references to "KAMER_NMM" from mod lists and load orders (later in the guide)
  3. Ready.
LOAD LISTS AND COOP:
The part that would cause a normal person to have a nervous breakdown (Can anyone share the pills? - joke)
Specifically, I ran into problems when I decided to launch the co-op mode. More specifically, when it came to the list of maps and player spawn points.
For co-op you need to tinker the same way as with a separate dedicated server (which I didn't expect, to be honest).
The collection with maps did not have ready-made solutions (an outdated solution for a list of cards and no spawn points), since the collection was created for a single-player game, where everything works out of the box (map mods).

I made all the lists, saved them and prepared them for you (Oh God, yes!)
With these lists, your life will become easier and your nervous system will be calmer.

There are a lot of letters ahead, but in reality everything is much simpler than it might seem + I tried to write it as simply as possible so that fewer questions would arise.

4. Game and Mods settings
For the modifications to work correctly, you need to take several steps:

Double sized textures:

╔═══════════════════════════════════════ ══════════ ════════╗
Some modifications require enabling the "double sized textures" option,
however, I did not do this and have not yet observed any visible problems.
║ Maybe I just haven’t come across such items during tests yet.
║ Just in case, I’ll leave a mention of this here

╚═══════════════════════════════════════ ══════════ ════════╝
  1. Open settings in the game menu
  2. Go to "Screen"
  3. Set the "Double sized textures" checkbox to active
Personally, for now I just set the maximum texture sizes to 2048.

Originally posted by STRadaT':
If you do not enable double sized textures, then when you entering some buildings, some titles will be of pixel quality.

GunFighter + Improved Projectile
  1. Open "Settings"
  2. Go to "Improved Projectile"
  3. Turn off the "Aiming point" checkbox
  4. Turn on "HPO Aiming Effect" (I have Type 1)

  5. Go to the "Mods" tab
  6. Find "GunFighter" in the list
  7. Turn everything off completely with "-DISPLAY"
  8. Turn everything off completely with "-PENALTY"
Ready.
5. Night Sprinters and Slower Sprinters
I recently added two mods that introduce the night sprinter mechanic to the server.
Since by default sprinters are incredibly merciless due to their speed, I also added a modification that reduces their running speed, but they are still dangerous.

Thanks to these two modifications, you can recreate situations in the spirit of Dying Light, only here it will feel more hardcore than in DL :)

Nighttime gameplay will now present danger, forcing you to either be more careful or wait out the night somewhere safe.

For what?
Because playing with slow zombies during the day, killing the entire city by any means at hand (I have a High value for the number of zombies), I began to miss the thrill.

If you don't like such complications, then simply disable these two mods from the lists of loading orders and Client and Server.
FAQ & Known errors
Q: Why do you write English so poorly?!
A: English is not my main language. I'm also very bad at it, unfortunately. Therefore, I have to use Google Translate + manual edits whenever possible.
However, I really hope that I was able to convey the instructions in an international language.

Q: Are you aware that an update should be released sometime in December? The point of this assembly?
A: Well, it's October now. I wanted to play right now + many people might also want to play “right now,” but without technical training, they would rather give up on it. Anyway, if the update comes out in December, I will wait for the modifications to update and update the collection + guide. In any case, it will be very convenient for me - now I have everything here in one place and there is no need to remember how to work with PZ.

Q: Spawn points in co-op are displayed without icons or descriptions
A: Yes, I have not yet understood the nature of this nuance, but the spawn points work. Tested at Bedford Falls, Betsy's Farm. Just ignore it or manually remove these spawn points by editing spawnregions.lua.

Q: How long have you been modifying/building the Zomboid project?
A: Since the release of build 41, this is my first experience. In fact, I can say that I’m a newbie here, but my technical training + experience in modding Bethesda games helps me a lot.

Q: How long did it take to build this and set up this build?
A: 4 nights + about 5 evenings to write the guide and design the collections page. Strangely enough, it was Steam that caused the most problems. Initially, I posted a short instruction in the description of the collection, but when I tried to save it, Steam simply deleted all my text (I exceeded the permissible limit, as I understand it).

Q: Does this work in multiplayer?
A: It’s tempting to use sarcasm, but YES it works in a cooperative game. This is what the collection was put together for.

Q: If you put together this collection so quickly, then it’s probably just a jumble of everything?
A: No, I carefully selected + tested the modifications I want to play with.

Q: You don’t have enough cool mods here that I use/want to use! How could you miss this?
A: I flipped through the workshop and studied many collections in a short time and tried to collect as much as possible of what attracted me. Perhaps I really missed some very useful or high-quality work. Just share in the comments, I’ll be interested to take a look too ;)

Q: I don't like the "Mod Name".
A: Initially, I collected everything for myself, but if you don’t like any mod in the collection, then just unsubscribe from it.
The main thing is not to forget to fix the server part (configs).

Q: You have a bunch of conflicting mods here! Don’t you really understand what you’re doing?
A: Yes, I think I understand, but finding out which mods conflict in addition to the description requires careful testing. Let me remind you, this is my first experience assembling Zomboid in... When did 40 come out? In general, if you are “rummaging around”, then it’s better to tell me where the problems are. This way you can help me fix the problems that I missed.
I did intermediate testing and tracked errors through logs + looked at which errors really broke something, and then corrected the situation.

Q: You have a lot of typos in the text, wow!
A: Well, it happens. My main task is to convey the idea to the end user. And also rewriting the manual 10 times because of the quirks of steam = blurry eyes.

Errors that I personally discovered:

Freezes or crashes when trying to host a server/"Click to start game":
This error occurred in two out of 10 people.
After about two days of testing, everything came to the conclusion that if you encounter this error, you need to reduce the list of maps on the server.
The error is very unusual. Previously, I thought that 16GB was not enough to run a server with this list of maps, but a person with 32GB had exactly the same problem.
Apart from the fact that both had an Intel processor and lower RAM frequency than me, no significant difference was found. We tried everything we could, but only disabling several maps helped.

If you suddenly know how else you can cure such a heresy, then we are all glad to see you here and ask you to share this information with us!

My configuration, on which everything works like clockwork with a complete list of maps:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600x 3.7 GHz
RAM: 32GB, 3600 MHz
SSD: Sata III Samsung 860 Pro
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080

Errors due to modified menu:
Sometimes, if you alt-tab while loading the game, errormagnifie may give you an error related to the mod for the new menu, but this will not affect the game in any way.

Error when opening the campfire context menu:
Errormagnifie indicates "Vanilla" instead of a specific mod, so I'm not sure if this error is related to mods or is a vanilla game error. I haven’t studied this issue in any detail, but it doesn’t seem to affect the game in any way.
I think it was some vanilla bug, because right now in MP everything okay. --> Fixed with Basement patch (included in the collection)
Some Recomendation:
Restart the server from time to time, because during intensive play, driving around all cities in a row, killing many zombies on your way, the game can eat up a lot of RAM.

With 32GB, I restart the server once every 8 hours (in fact, by this time my comrades and I are already playing enough and I just turn off the game). By this time, the game and the server are eating approximately 12GB each (about 24-25GB in total)

Specify the following in the sandbox settings:

(I don't remember the exact names)

Blood spatter lifespan: 3 days --> This will allow you to unload your hardware a little when visiting cities where you have killed 1-2k zombies, which in turn will increase your FPS. This also helps a lot if you don’t want to wash the entire city or base with bleach :)

Time for corpses to disappear: 72 hours --> Same as splashes, but if I understand correctly, this will also save RAM, since dead zombies (haha) are containers with items that the game must somehow handle.

Time until objects lying on the floor disappear (I mean items that was drop on the ground): 24 hours

Removing items in the trash: enable --> will allow you and players on the server to delete (recycle) items. The best alternative to throwing items on the floor (especially GunFighter shells)

Appearance of larvae (worms) in zombies: turn off --> same as splashes or debris
My current co-op settings:
My current setup is called AlexShersh (In case someone is confused by the names)

This contains all the current settings that I play with on my server with my friends.
Usually this is configured individually, but suddenly it may come in handy for someone.
Keep in mind that I changed the aiming settings (it's more casual since I hate missing at point blank range - it's not a turn-based game, it's an action game [for me personally])

[UPDATES]
Here I will add some notes about changes in collection or guide. Because I make sometimes change in collection and guide.

15.11.23
  1. Turn off Snake's Weapons Attachments - because it is conflict with GunFighter
  2. Turn off Snake's Ammo Reloading Mod - because it is confict with GunFighter: Gun Powder dupe + ammo shells doublicates. It is also can increase loading speed when you host server.
  3. Updates all gist (configs) files.

16.11.23
  1. Added a replacer of ammo and magazines from Snake's Ammo Maker Reloaded to replace the vanilla ones, as well as from the Gunfighter mod (they look much better than in the same Gunfighter)
  2. Updates all gist (configs) files.

18.11.23
  1. Remove "Bow and Arrow" + turn off "Inventory Tetris - Bow and Arrow patch" because sometimes Bow and Arrow was confict with snake's, noir attachments and someone. With Gunfighter we have bow anyway.
  2. Updates all gist (configs) files.

@Hey, Yablonya!
Honestly, it's a little strange.
I haven't encountered this. If an overload occurs on the computer, the application usually simply crashes. There may be a hardware problem here, I can't say for sure.
Yablonya 27 Oct, 2023 @ 9:04am
Hey, I have been playing with your collection for a couple of days, but there is a weird issue with it. After between 1 or 2 hours of playtime, the game will freeze, and seconds later it will also freeze my whole computer, forcing me to restart it.

Any idea why this could happen?

For the rest, I am really enjoying it!

@miuteddurn, IDK, but maybe it creating when you do this:
1. In Main Menu tap "Host Server"
2. Right from "Name of server" --> tap Settings
3. Create new settings preset and save it.
4. Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\Zomboid\Server\ --> You must see config files here. Like "Name that you set in 3 p.t"
