Some filters are but one that would be used for let's say nuclear radiation would have 3 different pieces to it, nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC filter), this makes it a lot harder to breath through and is why something like a PAPR is beneficial (Powered Air Purifying Respirator, essentially a big ole fan that sucks air through the filter into a tube leading to the mask so you don't have to manually breathe through the filter)
Modern ones aren't that heavy. Anything 90s and newer is lightweight and made with comfort in mind.
Here's some brainfood for what I might propose as a change:
A simple 2 part progression going from [Uncomfortable] (a warning with no detriment)] to [Claustrophobic] (-stamina recovery, -awareness FOV).
I know claustrophobia is a trait, but people without that diagnosis can still feel and describe things as claustrophobic. Of course you could always use a different word, the main thing in my proposition is the stats and moodle.
I figured since you'd be wearing a mask you'd have restricted airflow, but could take it off in a safe area to regain your strength.
A good compromise could be to add it as an option at the very least, but great work so far!
