Description
Dumb guy statement:

Homebrew - Silvertaped is just an effort to keep this mod alive and running after Scions of Sarhal update, with fixes to existing mechanics in code made by original creator. He left some stuff in files unfinished, not working and I've just simply picked this up, with help of all of you, there in the comment's and on anbennar's discord.
Without help i couldn't do much, since i know nothing about modding EU, but I appreciate very much every bit of help i got. We fixed this piece of art to working condition, and all was left is just to polish it, with whatever is left in code.
I will try to not change that much, to leave most of stuff as before, to leave this mod in spirit in original. Whether i find something worthwhile, I will enable that to test it by myself or publicly, fix it to usable state and leave it there, or not.
If sanity allows, create compatches for other mods, since I myself just yeet in every possible mod to my modlist and pray that it doesn't break something, which usually does, and so as I speak about that, just spam comments with whatever bullsht game spew on you while using this mod, I'll try to fix it, to make Homebrew great again

Bit less dumb guy statement (11.07.2025):

It's been almost 2 years since I've picked up that mod, some things are better now, on some few people wouldn't agree with that, almost same in my life. When I started I knew basically near to nothing about coding in general so I can assume that Homebrew pushed me to finally do something with my life, and so to speak not too long, I want to thank you everyone who participated with fixes and improvements and I hope that won't end even after EU5 launches.
As for me, with limited time from being full on focus to try to learn and gain any experience in coding and with just being not as intrested in EU4 as before for quite some time, I can't by myself play entire campaigns in Anbennar, to properly test everything out.
Im not dying or leaving forever, I will still update HB whenever Anbennar gets updated, but I won't be making as much major changes as I would like, probably only ones suggested in comments and balance changes to ideas. Im just going into low maintenance mode, for this mod. For how long? I don't know. Gotta find job, stop renting flat and getting house (and mortgage) etc. Whenever anything becomes somewhat stable, I will back to at least more common updates

Original desc there:

Welcome to Homebrew, a pet project that I created with the intention of making a fun and interesting singleplayer experience that plays off of and adds onto Anbennar's mechanics. All changes have been playtested and adjusted to my satisfaction.

--- Changes ---

The main change in Homebrew is the addition of new ideas. Thanks to the permission of the authors of The Idea Variation and Anbennar Unleashed, I have ported their mods and made them 100% compatible with Anbennar. I have also made many, many changes to ideas in Homebrew, with the intent on making each one memorable, worthwhile and relatively equal in strength. There's now 16 idea slots that you unlock at uneven intervals, each idea is 25% cheaper and ~25% weaker (some modifiers are weighted differently), you must take ideas in a 1:1:1 ratio, and misc details have been adjusted to account for your extra ideas. Along with these ideas are events and policies, and Homebrew adds 70+ all-new events and 100+ policies.

To offset Homebrew's extra modifiers, coupled with the modifiers found in vanilla Anbennar, I have also made some changes to the economy. Buildings have been rebalanced and are generally more expensive, you have slightly less base manpower, your expenses scale faster as the game progresses, and loans have slightly more interest. These changes should make sure that, despite your extra ideas, you won't snowball faster than you normally do.

The AI can be an idiot, and as such they've gotten some minor buffs to help them handle these changes.

Lastly, I have also added in misc changes that I personally want included, such as a general buff to factions and making mercs cost less professionalism.

--- Compatibility ---

Homebrew was made with the intention of being exclusively compatible with the steam release of Anbennar. This mod messes with a lot of files, and will likely cause problems when used with other mods. I also cannot guarantee Homebrew's compatibility with the bitbucket version of Anbennar, as the two will have a file conflict that will mess with whatever new stuff the bitbucket version is testing.

--- Future Content ---

While Homebrew is fit for public use, I'm not finished making changes. There are plenty of localisations that I plan to revise, and I will no doubt need to readjust some of my custom effects once I've gotten more familiar with them. I may also look into modding buildings in and making Homebrew contain ARLtR, but that's not my top priority.

I have no intention of directly changing countries, MTs, religions etc. There are cases where Homebrew's effects come into conflict with MTs, and in those cases I would rather add exceptions for those MTs in Homebrew than add another file that needs to be updated regularly. I cannot guarantee that I have every MT accounted for in Homebrew, but I can say that whatever issues there may be will be corrected as fast as I can discover them.

After some more brute-force testing, I found the problem event - it's the 5th (3rd to last), the event for changing governments from monarchy to republic/theocracy.

After a bit more digging I realised the problem: Theocratic ideas was referred to as "aristo0", while the actual name of the idea group is "theocracy_gov_ideas" - this caused the game to kill itself when an AI switched from Monarchy to Theocracy.

Changed it, now it works without a hitch!

After a lot of bisecting, can confirm - the issue is in "Idea Variation.txt" - if I delete it, I can continue without any crashes

I'm also crashing around the 1550s. I've noticed it only crashes on the pulse event dates, which leads me to believe that crash is due to a idea group event.

In addion, it happens to every country. Maybe a bugged event, trigger or smth?

Great mod, but all my games keep crashing around 1540-160ish. Sometimes it helps to reload a few years ago, but this is not a optimal and reliable solution.

I'm consistently crashing at around 1560 playing as Asarta - tried disabling every other mod (graphical, monuments) to no avail, however turning Homebrew off seems to have done the trick. It's very clearly the AI doing something funky, as if I turn off AI using the console, the game runs without a hitch.

The main mechanic-heavy mods I'm using are Homebrew and Dwarven knowledge (I'm aware of the outdated patch, but I'm only using the tech part that lets me have more idea groups)

I know this is not much to go on, but I'll gladly help if I can some way, really don't want to restart my game (or play without Homebrew :P)

Also massively appreciate the work you're doing, especially this quickly after the new update! :steamhappy:

The Impressment Office bug is caused by a misplaced { on line 4396 in the 00_buildings.txt file. It should instead be placed between the two modifier scopes, at lines 4354 and 4355.

You can find the file at: <STEAM_PATH>\steamapps\workshop\content\236850\3105283657\common\buildings\00_buildings.txt

Until Anscylla has time to update the mod, you can manually fix the file by editing it in a text editor.
