Prerequisites
  • I assume that you've beaten the game already (an easier achievement) and are just going back to finish achievements.
  • Having all the free talents unlocked helps
  • You only need 6 talent points for this
Talents to pick

  • The most important is "Bigger pile" to keep compression from happening by accident
  • The rest are just to speed things up a little
Strategy
For gnorps by the end you will have:

  • 10 slammers
  • 1 bomber
  • the 20 drones for the achievement
  • the rest will be runners

Walkthrough

Your main thought should be to always have equal or more collection that you do damage. Don't over do it on slammers early on without having upped your runners.

  • Manually collect enough shards to build the express, slam club, and house of shards
  • Collect enough to build the Gnorp Propulsion Lab
  • Collect enough to build Robotics
  • Collect enough to build the Rock Analysis lab and research Zybellium Connection
  • Spend your one free Zybellium on teleportation (it helps keep the piles all low)
  • Upgrade your runners' speed and capacity when you can, ignore the rest of their upgrades
  • Upgrades your Slammers' warm-up and combo chance when your collection can handle the increased load without worry. Meditation will help early on when runners don't have teleportation yet
  • At a certain point your runners should be keep the pile pretty low, so you can research weakspot discovery and then turn on bomber+weakspot power.

Keeping things to just slammers keeps the pile pretty wide. I intentionally didn't do things like fire (concentrates shards into a narrow but tall pile) or ice (a burst of shards that might overwhelm).

Priorities

  • Buy your drones when you can afford it, they help with collection anyways, but will be outpaced by runners easily by the end.
  • Buy more housing and runners to keep up with/outpace damage

When you have your 20 drones

Research "Break Time" at the express and you'll get your achievement in a few seconds!

There's probably a faster way to do it but it's how I did it and there wasn't a guide yet! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Something to be aware of is that if you accidentally kill a drone by clicking it, it will still be included in the count of drones you see when buying more. So be very careful that whenever you're buying housing, you're clicking far to the right side of the menu so that you don't accidentally kill a drone that's dropping off shards.

If you were confused like I was as to why "Break Time" wasn't available when you reached 20 drones its because you need to unlock the Cocoa Cafe building at the House of Shards first. I was losing my mind trying to figure out how to unlock Break Time until I watched a random youtube playthrough where someone enabled it and I paid attention to what happened directly before it.

I've found success in going superhot popcorn arrows following this but without the teleportation. the pile accumulates fast but gets collected faster, assuming you have a good amount of runners

I used this guide and got Y2K achievement in about 30 minutes, I continued playing with this build and after another 30 minutes I also got the 100 slammers achievement. Keep going if you haven't obtained it yet!

@TheoR nope 750,000 sounds about right, the 20th drone costs 249,000 the one's before scaling downward from that...
