Get a general idea of the map.
In order to make a good looking map you need to make a working map. Just make anything you think is fun first. When you did this you gotta start thinking of the location, theme, idea or maybe you wanna make a weird quirky map with a small twist.

Maps aren't only original ideas, they can also be based off real locations or games (But I personally haven't seen a map like that)
Now for decorations!!!
First of all, you gotta add the BIG decorations, don't add the small details just yet.

Big decorations or obstacles (obstacles block monkey vision) are usually
  • trees
  • buildings
  • big rocks
The list goes on but you get the idea.

I highlight some of the big stuff in this image (the map is "Islands of pain V2", I'm still working on it but I'll drop the code soon)

The small things in life.
NOT EVERY DETAIL IS BIG.

Sometimes we don't see the small details but it's what brightens up the world.
Small plants, rocks, leaves and grass can look great.

Reminder to touch grass if you haven't in a while.
Stamps.... What a nice way to add detail!!!
STAMPS!!!

Gotta love 'em, they can make grass more grassy, dark places darker etc.

Look here how I make my cave really look like a CAVE Using shadows to make the entrance look dark

And look here at the grass and flowers stamps really breathing life into my map.

THE END!!!!!!
YES, YOU CAN MAKE DECENT MAPS NOW.

Share this, like this and most importantly..... APPRECIATE THIS!!!!

This took some effort and I would appreciate you appreciating this.

Damn- this was made a while ago and I have not messed around with BTD6 in a while but if I had to guess I'd say some pre-planning goes a long way. (Pre-planning works in general when layers are involved) hope it helps @lil_Jansk_Hyuza

What tips do you have about the layers?
