Description
The Blossom Dancer
The next champion of the Pneuma Temple, the fledgling dancer Tanya brings her (mostly) elegant channeling to the battlefield!

NOTE: There is a universal Rivals bug that causes the game to crash when trying to select skins on the most recent character you downloaded. This is not related to Tanya. To fix this, download another character after her.

Find Your Focus
Tanya was trained to channel through her floral whips and graceful kicks. Because of her inexperience and nerves, however, she also sometimes falls back on unleashing large, uncontrolled bursts of energy. Mix and match these techniques spread across her entire moveset to reach victory!

She plays as a meticulous trapper, maneuvering across the stage and setting down flowers to gain the upper hand. Effective trap placement gives her the tools to unleash longer and more devastating combos on her enemies, in more ways than one!

With her Neutral Special, Tanya can place up to three Pneuma Blossoms on the stage. Although harmless on their own, she can strike them with her own attacks to scatter petals in the direction of knockback.
You can also create petals by knocking opponents into Blossoms, but be careful; they can hit you into your own, too!

Successfully damaging an opponent with these petals leaves them defenseless and grants Tanya one charge of Pneuma Rush, her special ability. By performing well, Tanya can find her confidence and enter a higher state of focus, concentrating everything into one powerful attack. To use it, double tap any special input. Provided you have at least one charge, you will expend it and perform a unique, enhanced version of the special. You can cancel any move into these!

With Up Special, Tanya channels her energy to create a Hover Lotus above her, a sturdy flower that floats in the air. She then grapples towards the Lotus and launches herself upwards, delivering a powerful energy kick in the process.
The Pneuma Rush variant of this move goes higher and hits harder!

With Forward Special, Tanya creates a Hover Lotus in front of her, grappling towards it to slingshot herself forwards. Although she does not attack, she can perform two follow-ups to this maneuver; either press the attack button to deliver a devastating downwards whip strike, or press the special button to throw a place a Pneuma Blossom below you. You can even jump or dodge out of this move at any time to become even more slippery with your movement!
The Pneuma Rush variant of this move delivers a kick of swirling energy as you travel. As a result, this version does not have follow-ups.

With Down Special, Tanya breaks down the farthest Pneuma Blossom back into pure energy, catching it and launching it as a projectile that targets the nearest enemy.
The Pneuma Rush of this move breaks down every Blossom at once, firing up to three projectiles in rapid succession!

Bearing the Weight of the World
When Sylvanos went berserk, the survivors of the Aetherian Forest were faced with a decision; retreat to the treetops, or fend for scraps in the danger of his presence. However, one safe haven exists on the forest floor.

In the depths of the forest, a group of survivors managed to protect themselves through mastery of a unique art - the ability to channel life energy itself, drawing immense power from the nature which surrounded them on all sides. They eventually managed to construct the Pneuma Temple, a large commune where their descendants would survive for countless generations. Their channeling, which acted as a positive antithesis to Sylvanos's chaos, allowed them to shield their small pocket of the forest from the devastation beyond their walls.

The true purpose of the Pneuma Temple, however, was not just to survive. It was foretold that one day, a champion would rise to quell the mad god's rampage. Throughout its history, the Temple has trained generations of warriors destined to subdue Sylvanos for good. However, every last one has failed.

A young tanuki named Tanya is the next champion of the Pneuma Temple. Although meek and inexperienced, her mastery of their art reached a level nobody had ever seen before. As a result of her unprecedented talents, she was quickly thrust into action. When she actually managed to concentrate, it seemed as though nothing could oppose her immaculate skills.

Tanya carries the legacy and the dreams of a society built entirely upon the desperate task of somehow standing against the very heart of the forest. With all the weight of a futile mission on her shoulders, combined with her already shaky demeanor, she appears to be a nervous wreck. However, if anyone could do it, and finally put an end to this ancient struggle, it would be her.

Now, she’s ready to calm the chaos - or die trying.

Turmoil in the Temple
Play on Tanya's home stage, the illustrious Pneuma Temple in the depths of the forest. Tanya's entire clan lives in and operates from this massive structure, where skilled architecture from generations past intertwines with beautiful nature. The stage itself features a unique asymmetrical one-platform layout!

Overall, she's a surprisingly fun character with a cute design and some great potential. Keep up the good work.

Before I go, I'll ask my standard question:
Do you have a headcanon voice for the character? If so, what is it?

As for design:

As with many R2 entries, the design is what got my attention in the first place. Hers is definitely an eyecatching design; and her colors pop in a way that really suits her style. Her facial expression on her portrait is priceless. My issues are within her in-game sprite. I honestly feel like they don't do her design justice. There's quite a bit of detail and shape missing in her spritework; and it does sort of negatively affect her aesthetic, in my personal opinion. Her animations, while definitely not bad, could use a little refining, as some of them are a bit stiff, which, as one would imagine, isn't great for a character that's intended to look (mostly) graceful. Ever a lack of grace can be more animated than what we think of as grace.

Here to leave a lengthy review for people to read if they want:

Initially, I didn't care for her. She felt like a fairly basic trap-based zoner with not a lot of combo potential or reliable kill moves. However, my process goes beyond just fooling around in practice. After battling some CPUs, my opinion on her style flipped upside down. I started using her flowers in (probably unintended) ways. I started using them, less for setups and trap, and more for bombarding an approaching enemy, stunning the and allowing to quickly carry them offstage and spike the life out of them. I use the flowers in a similar way I use a different entry's (Helios') sols (GIF of me using them can be found on my profile under "I Freakin' love Helios"). One thing these have over his sols is I get a reward for using them well, which I love. Her spike oddly satisfying to land; and I had a blast with her.

Great job!

you nailed her aesthetic w the graceful animations and floral attacks! i do wish her neutral was more potent though. idk if you're looking for balance suggestions, but i think her zoning would benefit from:

1. her up strong being able to appear from further out the longer it's held (think Toph up strong from all star brawl)
2. her having an option to detonate traps from afar. Maybe her down strong could detonate all traps currently onscreen into petals?

Regardless, I love the creative vision behind Tanya!
