The game doesn't allow me to have multiple saves, what can I do?
You can take some steps to manage them yourself. This process involves making copies of saved game folders manually and renaming them as you see fit.

Let's say you start a game called 'my_first_game'. Normally every time you take a turn this saved game will be overwritten, so you can't go 'back in time' as it were and undo a mistake you made in an earlier turn. This makes sense for multiplayer games, but some people want to be able to have multiple saves and go back to earlier ones in single player, which is perfectly reasonable.

So what you do is use your file browser to open up the Dominions 6 data directory to the location where saved games are stored. It should be like this:

[drive letter]:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Dominions6\savedgames

It will contain a bunch of folders, each folder is a saved game. These can be freely renamed, copied, and so on. Here's my saved game folder, with 'my first game' indicated:

So if it was turn 16 was just about to make a big attack in the game and wanted to make sure I had a save from the turn before I made that big attack, I would copy that folder and rename the copy appropriately to 'my_first_game_turn16'.

Now when going back to Dominions 6 I should see both 'my_first_game' and 'my_first_game_turn16' available when deciding to continue an old game.

Hope this helps!

The way I used it (if memory serves) was to setup both a hotkey and a timer.
I'd use the hotkey in the beginning, let's say first 20-30 turns, when the turns go smoothly and I don't have to think about so many things. Then set the timer to something like 10 minutes (yeah I take pretty long to finish a midgame turn).
The trick is to understand when and how that save is created. Once you click "next turn" the previous savefile is overwritten.
Also used a timestamp as part of the resulting folder name so that newer backups wouldn't overwrite the older ones.
At worst you end up with multiple savefiles per turn, but that happens rarely.

Sombre is almost like part of the game's inventory.
If they release Dom7 one day without Sombre packed along I'm not buying. Thx for the years you've given to this community.

Anywho...
As I've seen some comments and requests for it around I wanted to share a little something that I've found when trying to record a game of Dom5
It's a savegame (or files really) automatic backup and management tool.

Doing my best to make sure people have a chance to enjoy a game I love, that's all it is. But I thank you for your kind words.

And while I'm praising you, I notice a ton of replies to forum posts by you - Always spot on with great advice. I was going to comment in a couple of them, but thought it might be inappropriate. Anyhow, you are sure knowledgeable about this game.
