If it didn't work, then sorry I can't help you. I double checked the file, and I did named the vtf correctly, which is icon_hunting_rifle.vtf, and the folder I place is inside materials\vgui\hud\icon. You probably installed another icon for hunting rifle, hence it didn't work.
