Don't forget to click [Record Recipe] after a successful cook to lock the costs and previously used items for quick-crafting. If you fulfill the minimum requirements but choose to put in say 5 instead of 1, it will cost 5 for every 1 craft.

If for whatever reason you want to see the original requirements or reset the recipe, you can click the red (X) on the recipe in the recipe book when interacting with the cooking pot.

Major Update patch now gives you a few Apple Saplings as part of the Level One quests, allowing you to make Apples without having to wait for Lilith to prompt you. Not sure if she still gives you Saplings though, didn't pay attention.
