Hear is the 1/2 way of saving on the very well needed souls.

What you want to do is instead of using souls to repair your items. Be like I am be a cheapskate and warp back to sanctum and use the forge to repair items for free. While you are doing this you could have a Drink or have some food repairing all items should take 10/13 minutes. Also if your like me at the high levels repairing all items can cost between 10000/15000 Souls so its highly effective towards later levels.

Also if you want to earn souls and not damage items try doing some invasions. While invading or defending no items take any damage and you can earn alot of souls from sucsessfully defending or invading.

The 2/2 Tip from me which is very obvious tip but still.

Sell gear Alot I make about 20.000 souls a day going through the dungeons and selling all the useless stuff i get from crates/Chests. some of the items you sell will only be 100/300 souls but that all adds up and in a couple of dungeons time you can be buying that 27.000K sword you always dreamed of. Bassically be a cheapskate repair you items in the sanctum and sell old eqiuptment and uneeded runes.

A great way to get souls if you're a new player is sideing with the dark god as there global dominion gets around 50K souls and will help new players to get better items and progress in the game
