Types of traps
This guide will divide traps into two categories:

  • Traps that alert enemies (a.k.a. Sound Traps)
  • Traps that can harm you (a.k.a. Damage Traps)
Sound Traps
Sound Traps are quite common in trials, the two traps you will see all the time are:

  • Broken Glass
  • Hanging Cans

Broken Glass

Broken Glass is scattered all over trials and avoiding them helps your grade at the end of the trial. Below you can see images 1 and 2 on what broken glass may look like.

Stepping or running over broken glass produces noise that alerts the enemy (and decreases your grade at the end for "Triggering sound traps"). To avoid broken glass, there are multiple solutions:

  • Crouch walking over the glass.
  • Jumping over the glass (might be a bit tricky at times due to lag spikes or wrongly timed jumps).
  • Avoiding the glass altogether.
  • Using the AMP "Slippers" (see image 3)

Hanging Cans

Hanging Cans are also placed all over trials and avoiding them helps your grade at the end of the trial. Below you can see images 4 and 5 on what hanging cans may look like.

To avoid hanging cans, there are multiple solutions:

  • Crouch walking under the cans.
  • Avoiding the cans altogether.
  • Sliding under the cans (might be a bit tricky at times due to lag spikes).
Damage Traps
Aside from sound traps, you may also encounter traps that will damage you. Damage traps can be categorized into four types:

  • Explosive Trap
  • Electrical Panel
  • Psychosis Mine
  • Rigged Item Boxes

Explosive Trap

The explosive trap is usually found on maps that belong to the prime asset "Mother Gooseberry." The trials and challenges that you may encounter these on are the following:

Trials:
  • Cleanse The Orphans
  • Grind The Bad Apples
  • P*rvert The Futterman

MK-Challenges:
  • Feed The Children
  • Foster The Orphans
  • Punish The Miscreants
  • Open The Gates
  • Crush The S*x Toys
  • Incinerate The S*x Toys
  • Gather The Children Of God
  • Drill The Futterman

The explosive trap will start making a hissing noise and it'll start puffing up the closer you get to it. Images 6 and 7 showcase what an explosive trap looks like.

To avoid explosive traps, there are multiple solutions:

  • Running past the explosive trap.
  • Crouch walking around it at a distance.
  • Avoiding the trap altogether.
  • Using a brick/bottle to destroy it. (This will alert the enemies and will use up 1/2 of the brick).

Electrical Panel

The electrical panel is usually found on maps that belong to the prime asset "Leland Coyle." The trials and challenges that you may encounter these on are the following:

Trials:
  • Kill The Snitch
  • Vindicate The Guilty

MK-Challenges:
  • Cancel The Autopsy
  • Sabotage The Lockdown
  • Escape The Courthouse
  • Destroy The Evidence
  • Release The Prisoners

The electrical panel will light up when it's turned on and walking over it will result in your Reagent taking damage. Image 8 showcases what an electrical panel looks like. The panel in the image below would be safe to walk over.

To avoid electrical panels, there are multiple solutions:

  • Running/walking over the electrical panel. (Make sure it's off first.)
  • Walking around it.
  • Avoiding the trap altogether.
  • Jumping over it.
  • Using a brick/bottle to destroy it. (This will use up 1/2 of the brick, see image 9 for a broken electrical panel).

Psychosis Mine

The Psychosis Mine is one of the two traps featured in this guide that cause your sanity (the green bar above your health) to deplete incase you step on a mine. Image 10 showcases what a Psychosis Mine looks like.

The more you approach the mine, the more intense the beeping emitting from it will get. To avoid psychosis mines, there are multiple solutions:

  • Jumping over the psychosis mine.
  • Crouch walking around it at a distance.
  • Avoiding the trap altogether.
  • Using a brick/bottle to destroy it. (This will cause a puff of green smoke to appear (wait for it to clear) and breaking it will use up 1/2 of the brick).

Rigged/Trapped Item Boxes

Much like trapped doors, Item Boxes have a chance to be rigged/trapped. To avoid losing a bar of sanity, it is advised to move away from an Item Box the moment you open it. The way to distinguish a rigged Item Box over a regular one is the existence of a small greyish bottle on the inside. (Image can be seen below.)

I noticed there are also hanging cans that are positioned to where you cannot avoid it through crouching or sliding. Also, you can throw bricks at cans to create sound distraction and it won't penalize your grade (and the brick's charge won't get used as well.)
