I will try to detail every aspect of this re-release that is lacking compared to the original 2004 and 2005 versions, including bugs, design issues and missing content. (up-to-date as of 31/03/24 (12 days since last patch)). I have tried to credit some of the reports back to the people who commented them, thank you to all of you for helping to alert people to these issues.

Bugs and Issues
This game has a lot of technical issues that the originals simply didn't have.

  • First to third person switching is missing but only in multiplayer (which is confusing). - It turns out this is likely an extension of the input delay issue in multiplayer
  • There is constant desync in the multiplayer, which wasn't present in the originals (whose multiplayer still works btw)
  • Constant rubber-banding. Sure, the original had a little bit of lag, roughly 150ms, but this is a whole other beast.
  • Enemies (including NPCs) becoming suddenly invincible and nonreactive to being shot in multiplayer - possibly en extension of the horrific server issues
  • Some issues with space flight where the ships will randomly get stuck going backwards or have their sensitivities altered mid-flight.
  • Input delay issue with gadgets in BF2 (sometimes takes 4-5 button presses for the gadget to actually be used and if you try to switch using the mouse wheel you just can't 90% of the time)
  • The LAAT/S in BF1 have some kind of flight glitch that makes them fly at super-speed forwards or backwards when trying to move sideways, meaning they're practically unusable
  • The troopers have a weird posture issue in BF1 at the least (not sure if this was an issue in the original or not)

  • The AI on Polis Massa sit in the vehicles in the space zone and don't move. on top of this the vehicles respawn so quickly that their are more AI in the vehicles in the space zone than there are vehicle spawn points (pretty sure this wasn't an issue in original BF2)

    (in the screenshot one AAT had just been destroyed before I took it, meaning there were 6 vehicles sat completely still in the space zone for most of the game)
  • When entering into a space battle in galactic conquest with only a leader bonus purchased you cannot skip, activate, or back out of the bonus menu, essentially soft-locking you into the bonus picking page until you alt+F4

  • BF1 AI on Hoth will eject from all snowspeeders when tickets hit 25-ish, making dealing with AT-ATs impossible in single player at that point
  • The tracks on the "Snail Tanks" are missing the animations for the treads (Coffee009)
  • Most of the time, animations and sound effects like shooting and taking damage are completely absent in multiplayer, meaning you could get shot and either not notice at all or only notice because you either died instantly or saw your health bar drop (the screen is supposed to flash red and your character is supposed to flinch)
  • There's a well documented audio glitch that causes random noises to play extremely loudly with no explanation or reason whatsoever
  • some of the split screen elements are misaligned, such as gadgets appearing in the middle of the screen as opposed to the corner as they're supposed to (Bunebis)
  • The enclosed shooting positions on BF2 Kashyyk on the sea wall have broken hitboxes that block all shots (Coffee009)
  • Yavin 4 has missing geometry beneath the wooden doors, leaving a blank space you can look through into the void (Coffee009)
  • For some the game crashes on launch from the launcher (DanielWoodwick)
  • some reports of achievements not properly working or not working at all, dating back to the pre-release version (JoeyKarate)
  • The supply bonus and autoturret bonuses have been swapped around in the bonus purchase menu for galactic conquest (Bunebis)
  • Using filters in the server browser and hitting refresh is known to cause crashes
  • during the training or campaign in BF2 the coloured light from command posts is sometimes completely absennt (Flyingace)
  • There is a number of issues with how the game renders menus and text in ultrawide mode

    Possibly fixed:
  • The lightsaber hilt is missing in the image used for the leader bonus in galactic conquest (Fixed in Update 1)

  • There is no way to make or select new fleets in Galactic Conquest (Possibly fixed in update 1)
  • a lot of the control options from the original games are missing such as invert flight options. (Possibly fixed in update 1)
Design Issues
To be clear these are issues with some of the design choices Aspyr have made, not issues with the original designs.
  • Wrong font and incorrect opacity settings for the BF2 main menu and campaign loading screens, making it look oddly out of place next to what looks like a directly ripped main menu background from the original console version, and making mission loading screen synopses difficult to read
  • The PC menu background flashes up when matchmaking into a game in BF2 which is really odd and makes it clear they just overlayed the console background over the PC background and didn't bother to properly optimise/patch it together
  • There is some tearing in the movie scenes used as cutscenes in the BF2 campaign
  • Some of the loading screens for BF2 maps are really poorly done to the point that it's laughable (example below)

  • Rhen Var Citadel map for BF2 isn't the version made for the original xbox but is instead an upscaled version of the BF1 map, presumably to save on storage space (1 version of the map for both games), however this directly contradicts the point of the collection (to authentically recreate the exclusive content for all platforms).   • A similar issue has been reported with the AT-AT skin on the BF2 version of Rhen Var Citadel, being the skin from the BF1 version instead. (Bunebis)
  • Launcher menu: looks unappealing. Not really sure why they've just made it look so lazily done.
  • Some of the AI up-scaled textures have artefact issues as seen at 2:45 of AZZATRU's graphical comparison video

    Possibly Fixed:
  • (unsure if this is consistent with the original games but) small point cap on multiplayer games means really short match length making the multiplayer experience quite unsatisfying after waiting to get into a lobby that functions just to be thrown back into the menu or into another round. This also means that hero play, which is typically not super easy to get in MP, is generally cut short by a round ending very early. (Fixed with a server-side patch pre-update 1)
  • Wrong audio in the BF1 map loading screens for seemingly no reason (Update 1)
Missing content
  • In the battlefront 2 campaign, the post-mission cut-scenes are confusingly missing, meaning that you miss half of the games story. (supposedly these are present in the pre-patch version so they should be an easy fix)
Fixes
Update 1 - 19/03/23
Positives
A short list of some of the better aspects of this release (Notice how few there are)
  • Console style menu used for BF2 main menu
  • Looks like the movie scenes used in BF2 have been upscaled or replaced with higher quality versions
  • Ported console-exclusive DLC (Kit Fisto is almost completely unusable at the moment)
  • The singleplayer is mostly unchanged from the original releases (Besides the previously mentioned missing BF2 cutscenes and noticeably more aggressive AI plus broken unplayable galactic conquest), retaining all the AI and gameplay quirks as well (Theed corner gang)
  • The addition of achievements

Hello everyone. Please help me solve the problem: I'm launching bf 2 and on the screen where I need to accept the user agreement, I can't click the "Accept" button, am I the only one with this problem or has anyone else encountered this? Please help with the solution, thank you in advance! I've attached a screenshot of what it looks like below.

i still preferred this with the possibility to get better than pandemic studios just rereleasing the exact same game with zero work put into it

Ultrawide problems are not listed here. In ultrawide, many textures bug and portions of the main menus are cut off. On super ultrawide monitors, it is impossible to see the spawn map or character selection. Menus are totally inoperable in super ultrawide. Text has bad kerning, is rendered too narrowly, and the game has other visual fidelity issues.

I have updated the guide with a link to the patch notes and have moved the bugs they say they've fixed to the bottom of each section, as well as updating the patch counter

Patch one fixed a lot of this yay

new bug found though in rise of the empire and tutorial ( not sure about galactic conquest or instant action) the hologram for the command posts is invisible red white or blue doesnt matter its missing

Thank you @Bunebis and @coffee009 for the further additions. @flex Souce I too hope these get fixed son but it's still radio silence from Aspyr and I'm not holding out hope that these guys who, let's be clear, lied to all of us and took our money are going to fix this. Refund if you still can

I really love what the game has to offer, but i want everything written above to be fixed so this game can become the definitive Battlefront experience. I dont need a load of mods and new maps. I just want the game how its supposed to be. I really hope they fix this in the next few days...

When playing split screen, selected gadgets are misaligned. For example, resupply for engineer is like in the middle of the screen

It looks like a temple, there's like a crumbling door and just under it is where the missing geometry is you could just see through it
