Welcome!
This will be a short guide on how to download and play older builds of Conan Exiles.

A few things to keep in mind before you consider playing an outdated version of the game:

You will not have access to the Bazaar.

You will not have access to the current Battle Pass.

You will not be able to play on official servers.

Access to Bazaar purchases will be retained, *if* it was available in the build you download.

Tech support for playing an older version will be either limited or not available.

Mods, if installed, will likely behave in unintended ways or not function at all.
As they are 3rd party additions, there is no 'history hub' to download deprecated versions.

Your retail/live installation of the game will not be touched or altered in any way.
You'll be downloading a 'fresh' instance of the game. Make sure you have the space available.

Let's get started.
The Steam Console
To begin, make certain Steam is running and that you are logged in.

Next, tap the windows key and type 'run'.
Depending on your operating system you should see something similar to the image below.

Start the 'Run' program and the following window will open:

Enter the command below and press OK:
steam://open/console

Once done, open Steam. You should now have the 'Console' option to the right of your username.

Go there and you'll be greeted by following screen:

Great, now we're ready to give Steam some commands!
The Download
For the purpose of this guide, we'll be using AGE OF SORCERY: CHAPTER 3 as our chosen build.

With the steam console open, input the following command:
download_depot 440900 440901 1446335074801417869

This will start downloading the main game content, it will require approximately 90GB of space.
There is no progress indicator, the console will notify you when it's done downloading.

When it's done, input the next command:
download_depot 440900 440902 5321157248918662356

This one will download the game's executable files, it's also much smaller at only 120MB.

When both are done, go to the following file, which is where the download will be located:
C:\Steam\steamapps\content

Note: Default location, depending on where you installed Steam, the path may differ.

And there's the file we need, app_440900 - Conan Exiles, go ahead and open it.
Inside should be two folders:

Open the depot_440902 folder.
There's only a single file here (Conan Exiles), copy it and go back to the previous screen.

Now open the depot_440901 folder.
Paste the file you just copied.

That's the download and files sorted, the executable to launch the game can be found here:
C:\Steam\steamapps\content\app_440900\depot_440901\ConanSandbox\Binaries\Win64

Note: Default location, depending on where you installed Steam, the path may differ.

Enjoy the game!
Additional ID's.
Below is a list of all legacy builds I've currently identified, starting with the most recent.

Please note that all builds mentioned here are the LAST in their respective patch cycles, meaning that (for example) the Age of Sorcery - Chapter One build listed is the last patch prior to the launch of Chapter two.

(A full list might be something i'll do in the future, but as there's well over 200 builds to comb through, unlikely.)

Age of War - Chapter Four:
[This is the current live/retail build, no separate download is needed at this time.]

Funcom really needs to put the pre-Age of Sorcery build in the betas tab for CE and the CE dedicated server tool. Make it easy for us to go back to the version before monetisation was added and the game was ruined...

I loathe it when games like this with a mod community an player dedicated servers force updates instead of giving players a way to roll back or lock their version they enjoy. Instead of breaking server build modbuilds.

Hello again!

@Azazane

Thanks for the answer!
I have found a solution (albeit temporary). In order for the DLC's to work, the current version of Conan Exiles must also be installed.

I can't explain why though. It's probably related to the Funcom launcher, which then confirms that I've bought the DLC's.

And congratulations on your second place, in the Summer Retreat Contest.

@Nisaaru,

I suspect Funcom changed the way the install/version is verified, it used to work just fine.

I'll run some checks, but there's not much to be done from our end if that's the case.

Hello!

First of all thank you very much Azazane! I used your method to install Age of Sorcery Chapter 3 and it worked fine. But I'm missing every DLC-Pack which I have purchased years ago.

Siptah does not work too.

Is there a way to enable it?

Excuse the late replies everyone, i'm a bit busy in real life at the moment.

@Ragnar Random
Dave already pointed the way, add me as a friend if you need help.

@Crappydoodle
Possibly, I haven't had the time to try though.

@Rhoshan
Steam needs to be active as CE needs to be validated each time is launches.

I'm not sure what you're doing with regards to it trying to update, i've been running old builds for years without issue.
Rhoshan 25 May, 2024 @ 11:38am
Did this, and it worked well. After that day, I went to play again and the game kept crashing. I think the issue is the game is trying to patch itself. I had background updates off, had it set to not update until I began the game, but I think that wasn't enough. I was launching it without starting steam. What steps need to be taken to maintain playability?
Nomad 25 May, 2024 @ 12:25am
As for the mods maybe their devs still keep the older versions somewhere and could share
Nomad 25 May, 2024 @ 12:21am
Thank you! I was worried I won't be able to play this once good game ever again after how much they fuck it up with every new "age"
Crappydoodle 24 May, 2024 @ 8:41am
THANK YOU!!! Can we do the same for private dedicated servers?
